Note from the Principal

Welcome back to a new school year! It was great to see many of you at Open House. Our first week has gone pretty smoothly. Getting the busses and their routes perfected always takes some time. We appreciate your patience in this. The drivers do an awesome job in a very difficult beginning to each school year.

At Donnelsville we are emphasizing the phrase “Everyone Matters” this year. Your child has worth. They matter. We want to educate them uniquely and help them know that they have lots to contribute to those around them. They Matter! Please see the video our staff created welcoming the students this year. I just tweeted it. Follow me: @Mr.Bdville . Or you can view the Donnelsville website via the district website and click on the link near the top of the main page.

I am looking forward to a great year this year. The staff here is amazing and they work hard to help your kids grow.

Birthday CelebrationsBirthdays are special, and we want to help students celebrate. We celebrate birthdays by announcing students on our live morning announcements. We ask that parents not bring in birthday treats for the classroom. This ensures that all students have the same celebration and avoids

loss of instructional time.

If your child is having a birthday party outside of school, they are welcome to pass out invitations at school as long as they are inviting everyone in the class. If there are only a few students being invited, we ask that you deliver invitations another way. It is very hurtful to see your classmate receive an invitation and realize you are not getting one. Please keep in mind that we are unable to provide parents with addresses for mailing invitations so please plan ahead in organizing a birthday party.

Arrival, Dismissal and Safety Procedures

When dropping students off in the morning, we ask that you please pull up to the curb in the west parking lot. To help students develop independence and for security reasons, we ask that you allow your student to enter the building by themselves each day. Latchkey students should be dropped off and picked up near the cafeteria doors using

the east drive prior to 7:45 a.m. and after 3:25 p.m. Between 7:45 a.m. and 3:25

p.m. there should be no car traffic in the east parking lot. Specific arrival and dismissal procedures for latchkey are available from Ms. Tammy

If your child is parent pick-up/ car rider please pull up to the curb and wait in your vehicle for your child (ren) at dismissal. Please exercise patience and focus on the safety of our students and parents. The system works most efficiently when parents stay in their cars along the curb pulling up as soon as it is feasible to do so. Parent Pick-up students will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m.

Finally, we remind you that all doors are locked during the school day with the exception of the front doors. To enter the building during the school day, you must enter the office through the front doors. We do welcome visitors, but please make arrangements with your child’s classroom teacher in advance. If you would like to join your child for lunch, please call by 8:30 a.m. or send in a note with your child to order a lunch. This will allow us to accommodate your needs better. Parents are not permitted to join their child on the playground for recess. This is done for the safety of your children.

If it is necessary for you to pick your child up from school during the school

day, or to have a friend or family member pick your child up, please send a note in with your child that morning

indicating who will pick the student up and at what time. Persons picking students up must be prepared to provide picture identification. For safety reasons, we ask that you not call to make these arrangements.

Transportation Notes

Avoid transportation changes whenever possible. For example, if grandparents are going to pick your child up after school and your child typically is a bus rider, consider having child ride bus and having grandparents pick the child up at your home.

All changes in transportation should be made in writing the day of the change. Please include child’s first and last name, teacher, and specific details about the change. For instance, if your child is going to be parent pickup, please indicate at which building you will pick them up.

Phone changes will only be accepted in emergencies and calls must be made prior to 2:00 p.m.

Staff Highlight* This month we are highlighting 2 new staff members to our building.

Mrs. Cindy Macasek

Mrs. Macasek adores her family that includes her husband Mike, daughter Jenny who is studying in Taiwan, son Matt and daughter Erin are both married and have jobs in Columbus. Mrs. Macasek went to Miami University and earned a degree in Special Education and certification in Elementary Education. She also went to Wright State University and earned her Master’s Degree in International Children’s Literature. Her work experience includes; intervention specialist, Title 1 Reading, teaching second, third and fourth grades and she retired in May of this year. Mrs. Macasek’s hobbies include reading, gardening, and boating. She is active in Springfield Young Life and Sunshine Club at NCES and is a member of

Lake Avenue Christian Church.

Her favorite place in the world is Norris Lake, Tennessee.Mrs. Macasek knew since kindergarten that she wanted to teach children. Being a library aide is a beautiful and natural extension of what she knows and loves. This year as the librarian she would like to turn second and third graders onto the beauty and thrill of books and reading, with a special focus on nonfiction. She would also like to reinforce second and third grade standards to help children be successful with grade level expectations and support teachers with resources to use in their classrooms. We are so excited to have such a wonderful teacher join our staff as librarian here at Donnelsville!

summer.  This year will be her 6th year in Art Education.  She graduated from the University of Toledo in 2010 and moved to Rockford, IL with her husband after graduation. Mrs. Skinner taught for two years at a residential facility in Illinois and then three years in Wisconsin at the middle school and high school levels. For hobbies and fun, Mrs. Skinner likes to run, paint (the messier the better!), and be outdoors on the lake with family and friends. Her largest influence for becoming an educator is her mother.  Mrs. Skinner’s mother was a stay-at-home mom while she was growing up, but her mom started her career in education as a preschool teacher. For many years, she watched her mother teach, nurture, love, connect and care for children.  She showed Mrs. Skinner the power that education, love and dedication can have.Mrs. Skinner’s biggest goal for this upcoming year is to have as much fun as possible and spread her passion for art and learning to the kids. She is very excited to be joining the Donnelsville team!
