NEWSLETTER OF THE NEO – EGYPT Issue II: May 2018 Welcome to the NEO – Egypt Newsletter. This is Issue number II of the bimonthly newsletter. After the expiry of the deadlines for application in February 2018, the NEO Egypt have organized, in March and April, a series of Info sessions. ICT in Cultural Heritage: A Networking Seminar On April 19th, the NEO organized a networking seminar around the theme of Information and Communication Technology for Cultural Heritage, in cooperation with “Education for Museum Studies (EDUMUST)” ERASMUS+ project.

The Networking event was held at Ain Shams University and aimed at increasing the networking and visibility of specialists working in the field of ICT and Cultural Heritage, with an

eye on the ERASMUS+ programme and bilateral programs between Egypt and EU Member States.

The Networking event was divided into four sessions:

Session I: Employing ICT for Geophysical Exploration of Cultural Heritage Seismic, InfraRed, Radar, Cosmic Rays, etc. Session II: Cultural Heritage Documentation MultiMedia Documentation, GIS, Scanning, etc. Session III: Cultural Heritage Presentation Mobile Apps, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Virtual Museums, etc.

Session IV: Funding Opportunities, Projects and Success Stories

The networking event had sixteen presentations about current projects and potential ideas of projects in the field of Cultural Heritage (Virtual reality, Language automatic transliteration,

Mapping cultural heritage, Managing cultural heritage sites, Tangible and intangible heritage documentation, etc.) and was attended by more than sixty staff members from fourty institutions in Egypt.

During the networking event, participants were able to experience a live virtual tour inside the pyramids of Egypt, which is a bi product from two TEMPUS and ERASMUS+ project (VIRCULT &

EDUMUST).

In the last session of the netwroking event, opportunities of funding from the ERASMUS+, in addition to current bilateral funding opportunities with German and Italian institutions were presented.

The after event survey of satisfaction showed an overall satissfaction of 60% (Excellent) and 30% (Very Good), while it anonimously contributed to enhancing the networking of participants in the field of ICT and Cultural Heritage.
