Dear Parents and Caregivers I hope your family enjoyed the long weekend and managed to get a little down time to relax. I am picking though that like me you may have seen it as an opportunity to get lots and lots of work done around home. We had an excellent AG day last Thursday and I must say it was great to see the calves back on site and probably the first time I have seen socially distanced animals. This was obviously needed as a precaution to stop any potential spread of M-Bovis. My thanks to the PTA and all the helpers for making this such a special day. A big thank you also to our wonderful staff for all your work and our students for whom this day is really for. You may have seen one of our board members Marty Robinson with a few new bikes outside the Action Centre. This is because all our new bikes for the track have now arrived and over the next couple of months these will be put together and head out to their new storage area once a new container arrives. We have been exceptionally fortunate to have had people in our community donate to this project, some have given quite significantly I might add. I think we are so lucky to have people who think so much of our school and just want the students to have access to the very best of opportunities. We will acknowledge those who have donated in a way they find appropriate as there are some who want their donation kept out of the limelight. In the meantime please accept our thanks and gratitude for what you have done. There is an opportunity for families to pay for a bike for the school (or more) . If this is something you would like to do please just let the office know. A bike and helmet donation is $500.00. You may have noticed a house has been moved onto the domain adjacent to the school fields. This is on temporary piles while a final location is determined. The building has been donated by the Wilkins family to the Pongakawa Heritage Trust with the intention that it becomes home to some Pongakawa School and Community memora-bilia. In other words it will be a local museum. Lastly, as we settle more into summer a reminder all children need to be wearing a wide brimmed hat to school to protect them from the sun. We will move children to the front of the school into the shade should they forget to ensure we minimise the risk of melanoma. Have a great week. Yours in teaching Craig Haggo, Principal

Breakfast Is Served Where: Action Centre Foyer. When: From this Wednesday and then each Monday, Wednesday and Friday thereafter

Time: 8.00 am – 8.30 am After a successful and positive pilot last term, Pongakawa will continue to offer breakfast to our students three times a week between 8-8.30am commencing in week 3 with the initial first date being this Wednesday 28th October and then each Monday, Wednesday and Friday thereafter. Thanks to those parents who have already offered to help - it’s certainly a fun and rewarding contribution to school life. We are still seeking volunteers so please feel free to drop our board chair Kylie DellaBarca Steel an email if you’re interested. Email : [email protected]
