A Word From Warren

THE CHEERFUL GIVER

The Church believes in giving our time, witness,

talent and tithe. These are ways we show our

love for God. When we give only an offering of tithe, we

consider our time meaningless and fail to show we believe

our talent is God given.

God is tireless; “He does not change” (Malachi 3:6). “A day

is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day” (2

Peter 3:8). Our time is very precious to us. People are so

busy there just does not seem to be enough time in a day.

When we stop from our business to do something for God,

we are showing God is first in our lives. “Jesus said, when

we give even a cup of water in his name we will not lose our

reward” (Mark 9:41). God knows every time we stop and do

something in his name for his glory.

When we give our talent we are showing we thank God for

the abilities he has given to us. These may consist of gifts

the Holy Spirit has given to us or talents we have developed

through work or play. But when we use our talent for the

glory of God we are showing our belief that the creator of all

things is in all things. We display our appreciation to God by

using the talent he has given us to glorify him.

In living for God, and him in us, the Christian understands it

takes time, talent and tithe to show our love for him. The key

is that we not judge one another for what we do in bringing

God the glory through our actions. May all our giving be

with a cheerful heart, “for God loves a cheerful giver” ( 2

Corinthians 9:7) and to the glory of God while we grow in

Christ Jesus.

Your Brother in Christ,

Warren

“You must each decide in your heart how

much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in

response to pressure. For God loves a person

who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

OPERATION

CHRISTMAS CHILD TIME!

What is Operation

Christmas Child?

The world’s largest Christmas

project of its kind, Operation

Christmas Child, uses gift-filled

shoeboxes to demonstrate God’s

love in a tangible way to children in need around the world.

We have OCC boxes available in the church office and they

can be turned in any time. The final turn in and blessing will

be at all three services on November 13. Then they'll be on

their way to a child's waiting arms!!

If you don’t have time to shop ,we can do it for you. The cost

is $40 a box and the money is due by November 6. Please be

sure to memo your check or envelope with “Operation

Christmas Child.” If you want more information about Op-

eration Christmas Child, go to samaritanspurse.org/occ, or

contact Ellen Howard at 770-445-7628.

GIVING FROM THE HEARTGIVING FROM THE HEARTGIVING FROM THE HEARTGIVING FROM THE HEART On October 30, we celebrated Stewardship Sunday, where the esti-mated giving cards were brought to the altar. If you need a card, you may pick one up in the church Narthex or office. You can place your completed card in the offering plate, mail it to or drop it off at the church office. Please be in prayer as you and God determine your gift to support God’s ministries through Dallas First UMC in 2017. “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t

give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a

person who gives cheerfully” 2 Corinthians 9:7

food that is needed to help feed 160 children every weekend

during the school year. Each child receives 1 fruit cup, 2 break-

“HANGING OF THE

CHRISTMAS GREENS”

Mark your calendars for our

2015 Hanging of the Greens Celebra-

tion. This will be a very informative

and educational service on November

27, at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary. This joyous occasion will

prepare us for the arrival of the Christ child (Advent).

There will be special readings explaining the meaning of

the Chrismon tree and the Chrismon ornaments placed

on the tree. The lights will be turned on at that time.

The special meaning of the colors used during Advent

will be explained and the meaning of the candles within

the Advent wreath. The candles will be lit by a family of

our church.

Since Christmas is a time of giving, please bring

with you nonperishable goods wrapped in white paper.

It has been suggested that these gifts be used to fill our

Fish and Loaves boxes. In that case, please refer to the

list of the items below. However, any other items will

certainly be appreciated and will be donated to Helping

Hands. A special time in the program will be set aside

for the gifts to be placed under the tree.

Also, we will have very special music by the

children’s choir and individuals. After the service, eve-

ryone is invited to Fellowship Hall for coffee and re-

freshments. Please come to be with us for this service

and bring family and friends with you.
