Dear Families Feedback from parent/teacher interviews: Last night the staff reviewed the operation of the parent teacher interviews, both from a process point and an educational view. If you have any feedback on the interviews could you please email the school or drop a note. We will improve if we all supply thoughts on the positive and areas of improvement.

School Council: At the close of the election period we had 4 nominations for the 4 positions. Congratulations to : Shaun Sleep, Alastair Mulroyan, Peter Antanasovski and Phil Joyce.

The single DET vacancy was filled by Scott McCumber.

We look forward to their input into our school and the work they do as a conduit between school and the community. Could I also take the opportunity to thank our retiring Council members: Ben Woodman, our President, Mark Alexander and Deirdre Harris who have all made a significant contribution to our school and its children.

The next Council meeting (March 20) will discuss the position of Community Member on Council. Fair Sponsors: We are so fortunate to have the support of so many businesses for the various stalls, auctions and our sponsor packages. The following businesses have supported our school and it's children. If you have the opportunity please express your and our thanks to them.

Excursions: Why do we go on excursions???? All our excursions and internal visit relate to the curriculum being delivered in the classroom. Work is undertaken both before and after the excursion so children maximise their learning. Thank you again for your support of these valuable experiences.

Welcome back! It is terrific to welcome back Wendy our school crossing supervisor for 2017. Wendy, along with all crossing people, does a super job in assisting our children safely make their way home and their journey to school. Make sure we all welcome Wendy back and continue to support her in the role.

Year 6 camp: Our intrepid campers took off yesterday for their camp at Ferngully Lodge. The camp presents a number of personal challenges for all: strengthening relationships, physical, new experiences, being away from home, etc. Our children love the changes, a real strength, so they will thoroughly enjoy the upcoming 3 days. To our staff members, Stephanie Walsh and Jason Cole, plus the parents attending Matt Adams, Pete Cullen and Elaine Williams we thank them sincerely for their time and commitment to our children. We will keep all abreast of the camp and return times etc via our Skoolbag app.

Chicken Pox: Yesterday a Skoolbag app alert went out informing our community of a reported case of Chicken Pox. It has since been advised that the student does not have chicken pox but a severe allergic reaction to something.

Cross Country: Thank you to all who have volunteered to assist on this day. The competitors are primed and ready to go however we need your help to make it happen. Join in the day, it is a great example of being part of your child' s school life.

Voluntary Contributions: Many thanks to all those families who have paid their contribution to the school. The vast majority to these contributions go to the supply of books, stationary and materials which the children use at school. Eg art. Many families have also been kind enough to donate to the 2 tax deductible Funds that we have in our school. The Library and the Building Funds assist in the continued upkeep and development of these two vital parts of our school.

Grange Challenge: Another fun part of Chilwell Fair is the Grange challenge. One hundred tickets available for a Penfold 2012 Grange valued at $850. What a prize to share with friends OR just keep it for yourself!! Tickets are available from Sara or Helen in the office for a chance to be a winner and attract instant fame in the community. (You might also gain a lot of friends!!)

Social Service Committee

Dear parents,

Our first initiative as the new Social Service Committee for 2017 is to collect Easter Eggs for the elderly.

This is where we go to the elderly people in our community and present them with an Easter egg. Some

of these people have no family anymore and a simple sign like this warms their hearts on Easter Sunday.

If you can bring an Easter egg remember to write a little note with your full name

and grade on it. Some of the people receiving eggs like to write a card of thanks.

We will start collecting Easter Eggs from the classrooms this Thursday.

Please contribute to this great cause.

Year 6 Social Service Committee

Thank You to the students, staff and Chilwell community. After 34 years at Chilwell I have officially retired. The changes I’ve seen in the school and education during that time have been enormous. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every day at Chilwell – the kids are very polite and caring of each other. To see them come in as little preppies, some shy and reserved and see them leave in year 6 as confident and mature teenagers ready to take on the next phase of their education is something I will remember. Sometimes 2 to 3 generations of families have come through the school which makes it very special to reconnect.

The staff at Chilwell are fantastic. I have had the pleasure of working with some very talented, hardworking, supportive and caring staff over the years who have always put the education of student’s first. I keep in touch with many of these through lunches or dinners and have formed strong friendships that will continue into the fu-ture.

The send off with the students on my last working day was sensational. I cracked up laughing when the black limo came into the yard with Howard’s head poking out of the sunroof, red rose in his mouth, a glass of champers and Pretty Woman blaring. The limo did a slow cruise down the guard of honour of the students and staff who were clapping and cheering and then did a u turn on the oval and cruised back. It was a very fitting end to my life at Chilwell. Thank you kids.

The more formal retirement function was last Friday night at Truffleduck where current and past staff mingled along with many business managers and my family. It was great to catch up with everyone and reminisce over my time at Chilwell.

To Gavan and Helen, thank you both very much for your support and friendship over the years. We formed a very strong team and tackled the many tasks handed out by the Education Department with humour and lots of coffee. I will miss the daily banter and jokes – but I may drop in occasionally to catch up on the news.

Again, thank you all for your support – I am truly humbled with all the hype made with my retirement.ee you all at the Fair. Sincerely – Lesley Dandy
