I am privileged to have known and worked with Vicki for the fourteen and a half years that she has taught at our school. Vicki is an incredibly good teacher. She sets the bar high and she leads by example. She is humble and she is gracious. She is slow to take offence and is quick to forgive. Vicki has great intuition, can easily read what is ‘going on’ in situations and is quick to find solutions. She is a great listening ear and a loyal friend. Of course, our community already knows all of this. To say that we will miss her is an understatement. “Do not let your

hearts be troubled.

Trust in God;

trust also in Me.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

Dear Immanuel Community,

Tomorrow will be the last day that we will be graced by the presence of

the amazing Vicki Morris as an Immanuel employee. It will be her last

day as the teacher of Room 12, her last day as our Deputy Principal and

her last day as a member of our staff team. I am privileged to have

known and worked with Vicki for the fourteen and a half years that she

has taught at our school.

Vicki is an incredibly good teacher. She sets the bar high and she leads

by example. She is humble and she is gracious. She is slow to take

offence and is quick to forgive. Vicki has great intuition, can easily read

what is ‘going on’ in situations and is quick to find solutions. She is a

great listening ear and a loyal friend. Of course, our community

already knows all of this. To say that we will miss her is an

understatement. Thankfully, she is being retained in Christian

education and the majority of our current school community will benefit

from her educational

leadership at Jireh

Christian School in

2018 and beyond.

We pray God’s

blessing over Vicki as

she works with Sandra

Bosman, setting up the

new Jireh Christian

School for 2018.

Parents are welcome

to attend our farewell

assembly for Vicki, held tomorrow at 2:15pm in the library.

Regards,

Pete Slaney

We welcome Ezra and John

Hunter back to Immanuel. It is

great to have the boys with us

again.

‘If we are faithful to God’s vision we will know His provision. If the small picture does not make sense, broaden your view to take in the big picture’

Daniel – A Hard Act to Swallow

Performed at Liberty

27th September - Wednesday is dress rehearsal and evening performance

28th September - Thursday is Matinee and evening per-formance.

All students should be learning their lines and songs for the musical. They are all familiar with the tunes for the songs ‘So Stuck Up’ and ‘Let’s Trap Him.’ For those parents who have not heard from Mrs Mackie about costumes, she will be in touch over the next week. Coming home next Thursday will be A4 musical advertisements and small flyers. Each family will get a pack and the flyers are to be given to family, friends, neighbours etc. The A4 advert is to go on your church noticeboard and in the local dairy, community noticeboards etc. Any questions, thoughts or support please feel free to come and see me or email me on [email protected]

On the next page of this newsletter are the words to the songs. Please can you keep these and as they learn a song at school, they can go over it at home using these words. By the end of Week 8 each student needs to know all the words to the songs, please. If you buy anything for the musical, please bring your receipts to the office. Thanks Jo Duxfield

WORKING BEE DATE HAS CHANGED : Our Working Bee for this term is now on Saturday 9th September.

PAID CLEANERS: If you would like to earn some money by cleaning rooms at school ($40 per clean) please let us know and we can put you on our list.

Please help us keep the Kindy children safe! As you know, the school car park is shared with the Kindergarten next door, and can get very busy. To minimise the risk of the young Kindy children being hurt by cars, we want to enable their parents to park as close to Kindy as possible. So the parking area bounded by the Church building, the Kindy and the side of the Hall is soon going to be marked out as for Kindergarten parking ONLY. We would ask, please, that parents from the school respect this restriction, and park elsewhere in the car park, as a way of serving the Kindy families. Thank you. The Kindergarten Board.

Friday 29th September - Teacher Only Day

Thursday 3rd August, 2017 Dear Parents / caregivers, The annual Immanuel ‘Run for Bibles’ Cross Country will be held on Friday 18th August at Immanuel Christian School from 1:15pm till 3pm. All students are required to take part unless they are unwell. There will be no alternative programme offered at school. If it is raining heavily Friday 18th August, the event will be postponed. The course will vary according to year level but all students will cover terrain that includes footpaths around nearby streets and some grassed and muddy areas with uneven surfaces. Staff and parents will be on duty at different stations along the route to ensure safety, give directions to runners and assist any runners with problems. Students will be released from class at 12pm to change and eat lunch. Students should eat the bulk of their lunch at morning tea time and maybe save some for after their race. Eating a big meal just before the race is not a great idea. Students will assemble in the courtyard at 12:45pm, instructions will be given then and races will begin at 1:15pm or maybe earlier if we are really organised. Run-ners need to wear comfortable sports shoes, black or navy shorts and their house t-shirts. A towel to clean mud off legs before getting into cars at the end of the day will also be a very good idea! Students need to bring a bottle of water please.

We require students to return the attached permission slip please (1 per family) We require lots of parents to be course marshals please (a simple job)

Maps will be given to all marshals on the day, showing where they are to stand. Room 2 and 3 students will be allowed to play on the junior playground when not running. Older students will watch the races and will not be permitted to wander around the school or play on the senior playground. Spectators, please bring deck chairs for your own comfort. At the end of the day, students will be as-sembled in class lines and teachers will mark the roll. We will then pray and students will be released to go home. Please do not take your children away before this takes place. Students need to be collected from Immanuel at the normal time at the end of the day please. If you need to take your child or children early for some reason, make sure you sign out at the office please. Raising money! Please remind students to acquire sponsors for their run. It is a ‘Run for bibles’ event. See the separate flyer about Run for Bibles.

It has been lovely having 26 students from Ashiya High School with us

for two weeks, along with Principal Mr Manabu Okata and Mrs Satomi.

We wish them well as they head back to Japan tomorrow.

SO STUCK UP Look at that Daniel over there! He’s so stuck up with his nose in the air, And now that the King thinks he’s one of the best; Is just the reason we detest that Daniel, Daniel; He’d better not turn his back. ‘Cos Daniel, that Daniel man; We’re gonna get, gonna get him the sack. CHORUS ‘Cos we know he’s the King’s own pickin’, It really makes us sick, yuk! How much would it cost to tempt him Out of favour to be a raver, Show some very bad behaviour? Be just a little bit bad, We’d be so glad! Look at that Daniel over there! We want him gone and we really don’t care, ‘Cos now that the King thinks he’s one of the best; Won’t stop us in our evil quest with Daniel, Daniel; He’d better not turn his back. ‘Cos Daniel, that Daniel man; We’re gonna get, gonna get him the sack. CHORUS Look at that Daniel over there!

LET’S TRAP HIM CHORUS Let’s trap this Daniel man! He doesn’t fit in with any plans. He’s just a man we cannot stand; Got to trap this Daniel man. Let’s trap this Daniel man. He doesn’t fit in with any plans. He’s just a man we cannot stand; Got to trap this Daniel man. What a goody, goody is this Daniel bloke! We would like to trap him, it would be a joke. Take him down a peg or two to be like the rest, We must find a way to put his faith to the test. Well …

CHORUS 1x

Could we get the King to make a new decree? Prayer requests were only to his Majesty. Would Daniel keep on praying to his God up above? What a good excuse to give this Daniel the shove! CHORUS 2x

WANNA GO BACK Wanna go back, wanna go back, Wanna go back, wanna go back, Here we are as captives in a distant land, It’s a very sad and lonely place. Will it be forever, never more to see Familiar faces of friends and family? We wanna go back to our homeland, To the places that we know. Wanna go back to our homeland, Where the milk and honey flow. Wanna go back to our homeland, To the land of liberty; Wanna go back, wanna go back, Wanna go back and be free! Will our Lord Jehovah still be with us here, In this foreign land and unknown place? Will we all emerge from this obscurity, A nation joined by our love and unity? We wanna go back to our homeland, To the places that we know. Wanna go back to our homeland, Where the milk and honey flow. Wanna go back to our homeland, To the land of liberty; Wanna go back, wanna go back, Wanna go back home and be free! We wanna be free!

BABYLON Babylon, this great and mighty city, Known by all as Babylon the great. Full of wealth and power, rich beyond compare. Famous hanging gardens were all there. Darius the King, among the mighty Ruled the land with power and great fear. His, the land of plenty, flower of the East. Any who’d oppose him take care. CHORUS But you can eat our sumptuous food, No-one is excluded; We’ve many gods, so bow to them all. You will feel at home in this land of plenty, But make sure that you just don’t fall, yes! Babylon, this great and mighty city, Had a famous wall that was so great. Chariots aplenty, two by two could go; People gazed in wonder from below. Darius the Mede he had great power, His the hand that signed the new decrees. Laws of Medes and Persians had to be obeyed; Punishment was never delayed. CHORUS But you can eat our sumptuous food, No-one is excluded; We’ve many gods, so bow to them all. You will feel at home in this land of plenty, In this land of the East, let your eyes feast On Babylon the great.

HOW DO YOU DO IT? King Darius, the mighty one Saw something good in Daniel. He’d tired of men within his court Who gave him lots of flannel. An honest man was something new, A good hard worker too. He’d give this man some extra power; Yes that’s what he would do. CHORUS Daniel, Daniel how do you do it? It isn’t just that honest face, There must be much more to it. Daniel, Daniel how do you do it? It isn’t just that honest face, There must be much more to it. Integrity within a man Is something kings all hope for, But Daniel he had something else, An inner peace and what’s more, An honest man was something new, A good hard worker too. He’d give this man some extra power; Yes that’s what he would do. CHORUS

KEEP ON TRUSTING Keep on trusting, keep on trusting, Keep on trusting Daniel man. Daniel was so very strong, And he knew the King’s law it was very wrong. Not afraid of trouble if he didn’t kneel; ‘Cos the King’s edict had no appeal. CHORUS See his faith growing day after day; All he had to do was kneel down and pray To the God above, “Help me not give in!” All he had to do was put his trust in Him And the God above kept him free from sin, As Daniel put his trust in Him. (Keep on trusting, keep on trusting, Keep on trusting Daniel man.) Daniel, he was not afraid Just to keep on praying three times a day. Nothing they could do would make him change his mind, ‘Cos he knew his God was the jealous kind. CHORUS

JUST A BREATH AWAY (Daniel) Suddenly I’m so alone, And fear is all around me. Suddenly I feel afraid, I need Your strength to help me see That You are just a breath away, That you will help me face this day. I know You’ll hear me when I pray; You’re faithful and true And I’ll face the future now with You. (Daniel) Suddenly I’m so alone And fear is all Around me. Suddenly I feel afraid, I need Your strength, To help me see That you are just a breath away, That you will help me face this day. I know You’ll hear me when I pray. You’re faithful and true And I’ll face the future there With You (Darius) O Daniel What have I done What have I done to you now? O Daniel What a mistake, I realise now That my foolish pride Had blinded my eyes Now what can I say I just hope Your God will be there Today.

DID THE LIONS TAKE A BITE? Did the lions take a bite out of Daniel in the night? No, they didn’t And did Daniel have to fight with his power and his might? No he didn’t In the middle of that dangerous scene A superpower stopped the lions feeling mean, mean, mean; They just snuggled, snuggled down at Daniel’s feet. Did the lions even scowl, give a tiny little growl? No, they didn’t Did they even start to prowl, causing Dan to give a howl? No, they didn’t! In the middle of that dangerous scene A superpower stopped the lions feeling mean, mean, mean; They just snuggled, snuggled down at Daniel’s feet. Instrumental Well, did Daniel start to fret? Did he break into a sweat? No, he didn’t! Did he even get upset? You can make your biggest bet That he didn’t! In the middle of that dangerous scene A superpower stopped the lions feeling mean, mean, mean; They just snuggled, snuggled down at Daniel’s feet.

O WHAT A GREAT WONDER I rule a great kingdom with power and fame. Captives are aplenty but one day there came A young man called Daniel who rose to the heights, Which gave him some clout, made him stand out, There was no doubt he was bright. CHORUS O what a great wonder! Daniel was right. His God is amazing ‘Cos He kept all those hairy, scary lions From taking one bite. O what a great wonder! Daniel was right. His God is amazing ‘Cos He kept all those hairy, scary lions From taking one bite. I rule a great kingdom with vigour and sway. I sign the decrees and the people obey. But one day because my advisors had lied, I signed a decree honouring me, So foolishly in my pride. CHORUS

JEALOUSY AND HATRED Jealousy and hatred don’t belong in your heart. We will get a grip, then surely tear you apart. Don’t invite them, or entice them, close that door. We’ll impress you, then possess you more and more. CHORUS Don’t let that poison pollute your mind, Or you will slowly find that it has Taken you over in mind and soul, And then you’ll lose control. Jealousy and hatred, they will grip you so tight. Even if you struggle they will still win the fight. Don’t be tempted by their evil, strange appeal. Any scrap of good intentions they will steal. CHORUS Don’t let that poison pollute your mind, Or you will slowly find that it has Taken you over in mind and soul, And then you’ll lose control; don’t let that, Don’t let that poison pollute your mind. You’re sure to lose your self-control.

Harmony O what a wonder, that Daniel was right, Angels were keeping Those big scary lions From taking one bite.
