From the Editor

August is the month dedicated to the development of Rotary membership. Each club member, with their experience and knowledge, make the meetings more interesting and enhance club activities. Our Rotary community is stronger as there are more diverse professions. It is our wish to create a District Directory this year, which is to include the contact details of our club members, as well as information on their professions and workplaces. We believe that the Directory will help with the design and implementation of common projects and ideas, and that we will get to know each other and socialize better. The stronger our relationships are and the better our mutual understanding, the more we will be able to accomplish for the benefit of the local community. On the other hand, we want to be familiar with all of our clubs. Therefore, soon we will send a questionnaire to all of you in order to collect information about the activities and history of each club. Think about all the important projects which helped promote the local community, about all the important moments in your club history, about the prominent Rotarians who are your members, etc. On that occasion, we will ask you to present your plans for the future, in order to see what we are striving towards as a totality, so as to help each other more straightforwardly. Let us also not forget the global grants we are currently developing, which deserve support.

ADG Nikola Božić, editor

From thw Governor I don’t know about you, but this summer period has been unexpectedly turbulent and exciting for me – due to the fact that our clubs are active during the summer, and along with the socializing, they are also pursuing interesting projects. I missed out on a very interesting conference on sustainable development and the Rotary Ideas Fair organized by RC Stari Bečej. However, I managed to visit 6 clubs, to take part in rafting on the Tara River organized by RC Pljevlja, and together with the Pljevlja locals, to open a beautiful Children’s Motorcycle Skills Polygon, as well as allocating bedding in Zaječar for the children’s department of the Health Center, awarding the best 8th grader in Šabac, and in Sremska Mitrovica, donating a computer to a school for children with special needs. Also, together with the Rotarians, I met several leading people of local self-governments in Serbia and I was convinced that there is mutual respect and good cooperation with the Rotary movement. The perfect “icing on the cake” during this period was a phenomenal event in my own city of Niš - an interdistrict RYLA seminar. The Rotary camp for future young leaders, organized together with Clubs from D2241, D2482 and D2484, was connected to the informal network CFC (Culture - Friendship - Cooperation), all in the presence of RI Director Corneliu Dincǎ. So, clubs from 4 districts, currently located in two separate Rotary zones, worked together for the benefit of our young generations. Have all these activities started the work of our future new Zone 21? It seems so to me...

Forty participants from 14 clubs, 7 lecturers, 20 Rotarians and friends spent 3 days in Niš. The sixth Rotary regatta - “Sailing Up and Down the Sava to the Drina River”

The sixth Rotary Regatta took place this year from July 8 to 21, at which 13 ships with 38 crew members took part, and another hundred of those supporting the regatta from the mainland. The following clubs took part in the race: Belgrade, Belgrade-Danube, Belgrade-Čukarica, Šabac and Sremska Mitrovica, as well as RC Bijeljina from D1910. The length of the total route was 180 kilometers upstream and downstream, which took about 40 hours of navigation. The regatta was of an international character as the sailing took place through Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, via the Sava River, from Belgrade, through Zabran, Boljevci, Provo, Šabac, Hrtkovci, Sremska Mitrovica, all the way to the mouth of the Drina River - Bosanska Rača. Weather conditions were exceptionally favorable for sailing, which additionally affected the good mood. The great challenge was the low water level and shallows near Šabac, which was overcome thanks to experienced captains. The result of this regatta, like the previous ones, was to confirm the old friendships and create new ones, but above all to assure affirmation of Rotary as an organization that connects people and cities.

Let’s spin the wheel: Presenting the project RC Pljevlja: The Children’s Motorcycle Skills Polygon

With its donation of a Children’s Motorcycle Skills Polygon to the town, RC Pljevlja once again pointed out the true values of general and social interest.

The realization of this project emphasized the importance of proper growth and development of children by improving physical readiness, acquiring skills and a fighting spirit, developing a competitive spirit and healthy growth in a peer environment beyond the reach of technological achievements.

On July 28, 2017, the children in Pljevlja Municipality became one of the first users of this type of polygon in Montenegro, with an official opening of the playground.

The guests were greeted by the President of RC Pljevlja, Ljubiša Ćurčić, and the Governor of the Rotary District of Serbia and Montenegro, 2483, Branislav Ranđelović.

With the intention of spreading peace, good will and understanding among people, along with the message “a healthy mind in a healthy body,” it was pointed out that this is only one of the segments of RC Pljevlja with the desire and aim of having as many such events as possible.
