It has been wonderful to see all the students looking refreshed and keen to be back with their friends and to learn and achieve. As I move around the school it is clear that the students are energised and quietly confident in their new classrooms having been through a comprehensive transition program late last year. Over the holiday break a great deal has been achieve in improving the school facilities. The new Eastern Playground has been completed as well as the extensive works in the entrance to the school. Other works completed include new carpeting through the corridors of the Building A, a new Administration Office, new Assistant Principal’s Office and a new Collaborative Planning Room for Staff have all been created in order to improve accessibility and communication within the school. A new 5 Mod portable classroom was installed adjacent to the Walden Field. This will be ready for two Year 4 classes from next Monday. This means that we will be able to use a school owned double room to create a Multi-Purpose Room to be used for Out of School Hours Care, class group activities and incursions. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who worked at school over the holidays to ensure that we were ready and able to make a flying start to the 2019 School Year. In particular, I would highlight the work of Tony Lee, Nigel De Kauwe and Jamie San Martin for managing the buildings and grounds work. Their dedication is of great support to the 1,100 students at Mount View. The students in the seven Prep classes have made a great start to their primary school education. A very big thank you to the Prep Team and all staff members who work in support of the Prep students. A happy group of five and six year olds are engaged and inspired by these dedicated teachers. As the year progresses we will notice the increasing confidence in the students as they build their knowledge, skills and conceptual understanding in all learning areas. Student Leaders 2019 Congratulations to our Student Leader for 2019. We are all very proud of these students and wish them every success as they work with their teams and peers. The badge presentations to each of these leaders took place at the Assembly on Monday afternoon this week. School Leadership Message – Glenn Butler, Christian Holdsworth and Bianca Gatherum

Welcome back to Mount View for the start of the 2019 School Year. It has been wonderful to see all the

students looking refreshed and keen to be back with their friends and to learn and achieve. As I move around

the school it is clear that the students are energised and quietly confident in their new classrooms having been

through a comprehensive transition program late last year.

Over the holiday break a great deal has been achieve in improving the school facilities. The new Eastern

Playground has been completed as well as the extensive works in the entrance to the school. Other works

completed include new carpeting through the corridors of the Building A, a new Administration Office, new

Assistant Principal’s Office and a new Collaborative Planning Room for Staff have all been created in order to

improve accessibility and communication within the school.

A new 5 Mod portable classroom was installed adjacent to the Walden Field. This will be ready for two Year

4 classes from next Monday. This means that we will be able to use a school owned double room to create a

Multi-Purpose Room to be used for Out of School Hours Care, class group activities and incursions.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who worked at school over the holidays to ensure that

we were ready and able to make a flying start to the 2019 School Year. In particular, I would highlight the work

of Tony Lee, Nigel De Kauwe and Jamie San Martin for managing the buildings and grounds work. Their

dedication is of great support to the 1,100 students at Mount View.

The students in the seven Prep classes have made a great start to their primary school education. A very big

thank you to the Prep Team and all staff members who work in support of the Prep students. A happy group

of five and six year olds are engaged and inspired by these dedicated teachers. As the year progresses we

will notice the increasing confidence in the students as they build their knowledge, skills and conceptual

understanding in all learning areas.

New Eastern Playground

The school year began with the opening of the new Eastern Playground for students. This new playground

has been built through the collective fundraising efforts of the Parents Association and the Twilight Carnival

Team. The total cost of construction including equipment and rubberised softfall was a touch over $100,000.

As the Eastern Playground is so popular a timetable for student use is in place giving equal access to the

students during school time. Open access is available to all year levels before and after school. Teachers will

publicise the timetable with students in the classrooms. Softfall for the Southern Playground has been ordered

and will be pumped in within a couple of weeks. Maintenance of the Southern and Western Playgrounds is

on-going in order to ensure continued student safety.

Parent Approvals

All parents are asked to complete the approval forms as early as possible so that we can begin a full range of

key programs. Approval is sought for:

Healthy Eating Policy

PG Videos

Use of students’ photographs in school publications (Website, iNewsletter, Displays, Yearbook)

Headlice Checks

Communications (email addresses, parent helpers, parent class groups)

Walks to Local Environment

All forms can be accessed through Compass – Course Confirmation – 2019 Start of Year Approvals

Tell Us About Your Child – Interviews

Each year we build the home/school partnership through regular communication between teachers and

parents. A key feature of this strategy is to conduct the ‘Tell Us About Your Child’ – Interviews. All parents can

book times to meet with the teachers through Compass. These sessions are provided so that parents can tell

the teacher everything they need in order to tailor the learning and the learning environment to best suit the

needs of all students. It is too early for the teachers to provide an academic assessment of the students – that

takes place at formal mid-year interviews and through regular, on-going chats between the teachers and

parents.

Uniform

All students are required to wear hats and covered footwear while playing outside in the school grounds. It is

great to see students wearing runners so that they are able to fully enjoy outdoor activities. Please note that

students are not to wear sandals to school.

The school’s Sun Smart Policy indicates that all students should wear a school hat while playing outside. The

single exception is when playing cricket - the bowler may take his/her hat off to improve their bowling action.

The hat must be put back on at the completion of the over.

Medicines

All students’ medicines are to be stored at the Health Centre under the supervision of the nurse. Parents are

asked to send all medications to the Health Centre with all of the student’s details and dosage requirements

clearly labelled. Students who use asthma medications are able to keep their puffers with them at all times.
