Is the glass half full or half empty?

Is the glass half full or half empty?” This question is all about reflecting on our

World View and the way we view our daily lives. At Palmerston Christian

School, we focus on the positive behaviour of students. It can be so easy to

focus on things we wish to improve upon at the school and thereby unwittingly

diminish the incredible blessing Palmerston Christian School is to our

community. I invite you to affirm and celebrate the positives at PCS. I know

many people in our community are speaking positively of our school because as

I interview new families, they almost always say they know someone who

speaks positively about PCS.

The exciting aspect of being a Christian is that the glass is never half full or half empty. Psalm 23:5,

Amplified Bible (AMP) “5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my

head with [a]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.” In Christ our “cup runs over” at all times and in all

things. Circumstances may not appear positive but in Christ the cup is always completely full. I encourage

you to spend some time in your devotions reading Philippians Chapter 4. Philippians 4 v 6-7 (The

Message) is a great encouragement to me as I consider how to view the circumstances of my daily life.

“Don't fret or worry, instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers

letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming

together for good will come and settle you down. It's

wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at

the center of your life.

Lets us all delight in the fact that we do not need to be

wondering about “half full or half empty” cups but rather

rest in the joy that our cup is “brimming” over. Have a

great break.

Remember this is a two week break and we start school

again on Monday, 13 October 2014.

Year 5/6 Happenings

CHRISTMAS GIFTBOX APPEAL

Year 5/6 James would like to invite our school community to help in our charity drive, by

donating a Christmas gift box this year.

Boxes and pamphlets can be obtained from Mrs James and would need to be returned to

school by Monday, 20 October.

Your Christmas Giftbox donation will be greatly appreciated by children in Asia this year.

Big Thanks to the Schatz Family for donating an Asthma Pack!

Uniform Shop – we urgently need one or two people who are willing to open the uniform

shop on a regular weekly basis.

Book club orders – it would be great to have someone who would be willing to learn this

during Term 4, and may be willing to take on the organising of the book club orders for

2015.

Our Extreme Earth!

In 5/6K this term, we have been learning about our Extreme Earth. We have focused on several different

natural disasters including Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Droughts and Cyclones. As part of our studies we have

explored how these natural disasters occur and how they can affect us. Did you know that a Category 5

Cyclones has winds over 280km/h, and that most Earthquakes occur in an area called the Ring of Fire?

These are some of the volcano models which we built and then exploded with 5/6J!

Peer Support

This term, the Year 6 students have been running our school peer support groups and they are really enjoying the experience. They are developing into really strong leaders and there are some great friendships being formed across the school. Thanks to their hard work, we are all learning to be more optimistic!

On Saturday 27 September ‘The Lego Movie' will be hosted by the Palmerston Lions Club and showing as part of the City of Palmerston FlicNics program.

Gates open at 6.30pm with the movie starting at 7pm. Either pack your own picnic, or enjoy the BBQ and sausage sizzle on sale at the Lake.

Greater Palmerston United Football Club Academy School Holiday Clinics

Monday 29th Sept –Friday 3rd Oct 2014

The GPUFCA will be running soccer clinics for both boys and girls ages 6-18 years old. The Players will be grouped according to age groups.

The clinics will teach a range of soccer skills as well as create a fun sporting atmosphere the upcoming soccer stars to flourish. A skilled

certified coach will lead, monitor and coordinate both morning and afternoon sessions. A certificate of attendance will be issued at the

end of the week long clinic. All equipment will be provided.

Well done PCS! Some of 3/4G took part in a competition for designing a poster for Crime Stoppers.

We are very pleased to announce that our students – Lanie Pennington, Caitlin Jong and Mackinlee Swart’s poster for Crime Stoppers was chosen as one of the winners for the Crimes Stoppers Conference in the NT.

This poster was blown up and put onto a big Corflute banner to be showcased at the Conference. As a reward, these students each received a $50 Casuarina Square voucher.

Other students from the same class took part in the competition and were also given an official letter thanking them and a movie voucher. These were the following students: John Adjokatse, Declan Tiller, Zane McCarthy, Carys Shewring,

Connor Trembath, John Handley Maddie Weir, Bella Donald, Kira Fanning & Leila Brennan.

Tuesday 10th June @PCS

Year 10 Trip On the year 10 trip, we visited various

places and met many different people, but

our favourite place was Dubbo Western

Plains Zoo. That morning we had to wake up

bright and early (5:15am) to take a behind

the scenes tour of the zoo. The tour was

really interesting and we saw a lot of unique animals, such as a

species of monkey that put on a show for us which was

hilarious.

During our free time at the zoo, we decided to wander around

and try to find the gift shop. However, when we tried to make

our way back, we took a wrong turn and ended up getting lost

in the zoo.

We had to call one of the parents to come and find us and in the process we had to duck under

boom gates and climb over fences (not into enclosures). We ended up holding up both the

busses, but we're lucky we got back safely. Annabel Bruhn and Kelsey Scott

NETBALL GIRLS

The PCS girls made a sudden decision to join the magpies netball club an hour before closing.

Most of us have played together for 5 years. We have won every game this year except for the

one game against Good Shepherd Hot Wheels. They were the team we played in the finals and

we won 30:23. Tabitha May

Tuesday 10th June @PCS

We are very happy to welcome Desiree Johnston to our Kingdom Kids community. Desiree will be our teacher in

the 4 year old Busy Bees room. Welcome Desiree, we’re all looking forward to work together as we serve the

development of our children. At this time, we’re especially thinking of Ms Emma and Geoff as they are getting

married this Saturday. We wish them a very happy day and many blessings in their life together.

With many new children attending, there is a need for further teachers so we are happy that Emiliya Stoyanova

has joined our team, welcome Emiliya. We are also happy to welcome Jaydine Sandy who is a student and will be

joining us on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week. Katie will be away on holidays to the Middle East. We pray she

has a wonderful trip and returns safely.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to see you if you continue with us during this time.
