A number of fundraising items were discussed particularly around the recent Dalby Chiropractic Centre Golf Day last weekend which was hugely successful. We are certainly very appreciative of the support Brett and his team offered our school on this occasion. We are ramping up our Containers for Change program here at school, through the Student Council. The council members are providing advice and training to classes on how to best engage in our recycling program. I was speaking with a representative of the Western Downs Council this week and he put forward to us information about a video project that they are planning to do for Seniors Week this year. As you would understand visiting the seniors in person is not possible this year so the next best thing is a video presentation. We plan to provide video footage of our Instrumental bands, Choir, highlight the work of our Arts and Enrichment students and possibly share some opportunities for older students to buddy read with their younger counterparts. We are hoping that it is possible to complete this task next Thursday afternoon. When complete our school will be provided with a copy of the finished seniors presentation prepared by the Western Downs Council. I am sure that the students will look forward to seeing the finished product. Included in this weeks newsletter is a report about this weeks 100 Days of Prep celebration. Like you we would say that this has been the most unusual first 100 days of prep, though none the less the team wanted to celebrate this milestone with our students. Tuesdays free dress day, activities and magnificent cupcakes were a huge success. My congratulations to the Prep team for their continued hard work. You will notice across this term we have tried to minimise the disruptions for our teachers and students to allow them to focus as much as they can on the core aspects of the curriculum. We hope to return to a more rounded offering as we enter the final term for 2020. Next week will continue to see things ramping up even further across the school and we look forward to making the most of each and every school day that we have available. Enjoy your week Dave School Banking is back and is on Thursdays.

Oliver over is eating Pavlova,

Piled up high with jam and cream, While Annie and Anna are eating a banana, And Chase likes the stinky cheese. Where’s the Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam. Emily’s eaten all the eggs, And Mrs Stokes then says, Where’s the Jam Jarod, Oh! You’ve not Jarod. Jarod! You’ve eaten all the Jam. OH!!!!!

Based on the book “Pass the Jam Jim.” Written by Mrs Tomlinson with help from 1A 2020.

We have been looking at poetry and Looking at elements of poetry. Poetry always has Rhythm and imagery, and often rhyme, sometimes repetition, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. Here is a poem that we made about our class based on a cool rhyming story called “Pass the Jam Jim.”

What’s Happening in Class 5A What's the matter? That's what 5A have been looking at so far this Term, 3 states of matter. We have been investigating our solids, liquids and gases. We have completed an investigation looking at whether gas has mass and takes up space and we have looked at the properties of solids. 5A is conducting an investigation looking at the different viscosity of liquids in a 'Runny Race' seeing which liquid is more or less viscose and why. It has been so much fun learning about the properties of matter and being able to be a molecule ourselves.

Where’s the Jam Jarod? A party is happening, in 1A today, Taela and Layla are there. Where’s the apples Aliyah, Abbey loves, apples, Aliyah. Where’s the Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam. Lily loves her lollies, And so does Alex. Kynan in dinean in 1A today. Charlotte is chomping, on chocolate and cherries. Where’s the Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam. It’s fun for Mrs Tomlinson, And all the girls want games. Here comes Dom with a water bomb, Will Jonah, get wet on the way. Where’s the Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam. The cleaners, Salvina, Pie that’s Pecan is for Decan, Ella-Rose has bows in her hair. While Logan and Lucy just love their sushi. Where’s the Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam Jarod, Jam.

Congratulations to our Preps; they are now 100 days smarter! It was celebration time at Prep on Tuesday with a free dress day and lots activities around the number 100.

P&C News

A HUGE thank you to Dalby Chiropractic Clinic for the opportunity to hold the BBQ at their charity golf day last weekend. All up we made over $1800 which is a great start for the 2021 Canberra Camp fundraising pool. Thank you also to the Lamari, Owen, Fletcher, Flynn and Tunley families for their help on the day.

Krispy Kreme orders have started to come into the office. The cut off for these are next Friday July 31 for manual forms and money, or online will close on Monday August 3. The office does have more forms if you need another or more, otherwise they can be found on SkoolBag. They will be delivered to school August 18. Anyone who is able to help collect them on the morning of the 18 (4:30am) or collate the orders (from 11am) your help would be greatly appreciated. Please let the school now if you are available.

The P&C has a Containers for Change account and now have designated bins at school for the students to put their poppers and water bottles in. Currently we are using the money to go towards the 2021 Canberra Camp. This will change term to term depending on what projects/ events we are fundraising for. Families or friends who would like to contribute to this and are collecting bottles/ cans etc at home can take them to the Containers for Change store on Nicholson Street in Dalby (or any Containers for Change store in Queensland) and give them our code and the money will be forwarded to our P&C account automatically. The code is C102 628 19. Every 10 cent counts! We will be looking for parent help to take the containers we have collected at school down to the store each week. If anyone is willing to help with this please let the office now.

Thank you to those parents who linked up to Zoom on Monday night for our P&C meeting, we were done in just over half an hour. Great way to attend a meeting without leave your home, especially great during these winter months. Jen

Prep A Celebrating 100 Days of Learning! On Tuesday we got to celebrate 100 days of learning! We have been counting down 100 days since starting Prep and had been looking forward to our celebration. We had such a fun day and had lots of activities based around the number 100. We got to create a 100 year old version of ourselves using craft materials, a number puzzle that counts in 10s to 100, our 100 days brighter crowns as well as 3 STEAM activities. The STEAM activities consisted of a playdough cake with 100 candles, making a tower that would stand using 100 cups, using 100 playing cards to build a tower, use 100 pieces of lego to build something as well as building a Dominoe line with 100 pieces. To end the day we all had a cupcake each!

Bunnings BBQ fundraiser - Saturday 8th August 2020

Canberra Camp 2021 C4J (Children

For Jesus)

Again this year we will be having our lunch time club C4J where we have lots of fun learning about Gods love and plan for us, listening to stories, answering the children’s questions sharing our lives together, and singing songs. It will be a part of our lunchtime activities for the lower school on a Wednesday.

It will be held in the Parent Room. All children who are religiously affiliated, or who go to RE or will next year are welcome to come. If they do not go to RE but would like to come we just need a signed and dated letter, by mum or dad.

Looking forward to catching up with lots of the children again.

Reading in 3A

This week 3A have been focussing on making predictions during reading. On the first page, we have to write a prediction on what we think will happen in the book based on the title, illustrations and the blurb. We then have to justify why we made that prediction with the evidence we used. Every six pages we say if our predictions were accurate or inaccurate and then we write another prediction of what we think will happen in the next six pages. Predicting helps us to use information from titles and picture clues to form ideas in our head and our justifications help us find evidence and information in the book. By Katie Kajewski and Morgan Sargeant
