Thanks to all players on the days of harvesting for obeying warnings and avoiding these areas. Part of the future planting is to plant a row of natives for beautification and provide a buffer zone. Great to see many supporting our “Fire” Tournament with members asked to provide a prize it was a great and varied prize table. It was run to generate some funds for the club and provide a fun day. Thank you for all those that participated, making the tournament a success and enjoyable. Special thanks to Mike & Pat for their organisation. We have a District Vets on Tuesday the 6th of March and a Mixed Vets on the 16th of March, hopefully full fields again. The Canadian mixed foursomes on opening day was a great success. The Ringers have now finished and results will be published shortly. Now a warning of the effects of the heat on some players, it would help if everyone kept an eye on there playing partners who may suffer in silence rather then admit they are struggling a bit. We have had 1 player assisted from the course and this is a reminder that drinking plenty of liquid and not being afraid to ask for help in this heat will lessen any ill affects. The draw for the Marshal Trophy is up and the 1st round is on Tuesday the 7th. Ron

Club Captain’s Report - Wow another month gone and what a busy month it was. Three Opening days, Old

Hickory at Motueka, Sloan at Murchison, the ladies defended the Acheson Cup on home soil and we then rounded off the month with a fun team event to celebrate the re-opening of the club house. A most enjoyable round of combined Stableford scores with players taking turns on each hole to play with a yellow ball which counted double Stablefords. The fear of losing the yellow ball appeared too much pressure for some. A big thank you to those entered this competition and a bigger thank you to those who donated prizes for this event. I would also like to thank our section captains Ross, Fran, Ron, Pip and Sue and additionally our rep team organisers. These guys put a lot of time and effort in to make your golf enjoyable so give them a 'high five' now and again. One mixed Sunday event this month, the Stewart Cup on the 26th March. This is one of the most challenging, 27 Holes Best Ball Par, teams of four with one lady. The sheet is up on the men's notice board so get your names down. Easter is a little later this year and our Easter Open will be on the 15th & 16th April. This is our showpiece tournament of the year and it would be great to see entries back around the 120 mark. Entry sheets for this will be going up shortly, if you have friends who play at other clubs see if you can get them to come along. Mike Hrynkiw

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE GREENKEEPER - Well summer has arrived, I think!! The course is certainly

showing that with the usual patches drying of quickly. The course has not only changed due to weather conditions. A major change has been due to the pines being removed along no3. The contractors have done a fantastic job, being very considerate to the club by not interfering with the clubs major playing days. Please stay out of the taped of areas, as the club will be liable if any injuries do accrue while somebody is in the taped of zone. Nothing further to report. Enjoy your walk around the course. Cheers John

Rules Corner This month I just want to emphasise the importance of understanding not only the Rules of Golf but also Local Rules. There is often a perception by some clubs that you can make up a Local Rule to suit yourself and this can invariably overrule a proper Rule. The fact is a Rule of Golf must not be waived by a Local Rule unless author-ised by the R&A. This brings me onto the latest Local Rule we have instated. It could be argued that this Local Rule waives the penalty for moving your ball at rest on the green accidently - well yes it does! however as the R&A authorised it let's embrace it. So let's just remind ourselves what this Local Rule entails:-

Please note this also applies in match play where you accidently move your opponent’s ball or ball marker -

there is no penalty and simply replace the ball or ball marker.

Our biggest Tournament of the year is just around the corner. Be sure to get your entries in and promote this great tournament with your fellow golfers. We are hoping to attract over
