Clubhouse and have a pleasant experience while visiting.LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENTSHAPING OUR BRAND There are a lot of exciting changes, positive changes, in store for the

Club in 2011, but as I mentioned in my letter last month, it all begins When people hear the word “brand”, many different things come to with you. I encourage you to send me your thoughts, your feedback, mind. I define a “brand” as “a product or an offering that is distinctive your criticism and your compliments. Our focus for 2011 will be on from others and it represents the sum of the relationship we have with you, the customer, and the only way we can improve your experience is it, whether it is good or bad.” This month, I want to focus on our to hear from you!“brand” known as The Italian Club of Dallas. Building a successful

brand is about a lot more than a nice logo or clever advertising. Next month I'm going to discuss “Running Our Operation” but until Successful brands, those brands that we can't live without, are the ones then, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.that reach our hearts as well as our minds. Truly great brands are the

Michael Trovalliones that touch us in the totality of our interaction with them.President

At the Club, the core of our brand is in our name – “Italian” – and the purpose of our brand is carried out in our mission statement – “...to explore, preserve and promote Italian culture, language, history and January 2011 Income Year To Date 2011traditions...” But how do we successfully bring those words to life and Revenue = $38,742.26 Revenue = $38,742.26make our brand one that touches hearts as well as minds? I'll give you Expenses = $37,167.47 Expenses = $37,167.47a personal example. Net Gain = $1,574.79 Net Gain = $1,574.79I have both a Central Market and a Market Street within 5 minutes of * While the start of a fiscal year shows clean numbers, I think it's important to point out where

we stand versus a year ago. In January 2010, our Net Loss was (-$7,324.41) versus January where I live but I would rather drive 30 minutes to go to Jimmy's Food 2011 where we showed a Net Gain of $1,574.79. Compared to a year ago, we have improved Store for my purchases. In addition to great quality and selection of our Net Income for comparable months by $8,899.20.

Italian products at Jimmy's, I get a total experience when I interact with them. They communicate with me through their weekly emails offering seasonal specialties. When I visit, I can sample wines and CULINARY EVENTScheeses, I can talk to Paul and Mike DiCarlo and the folks behind the counters who make good recommendations about products, and I can be in an environment that “feels” like the Italian market my Nana used to take me to when I was growing up in upstate New York. With Jimmy's, I get the totality of the Italian experience, and it touches both my heart and my mind. So again the question – how do “we” successfully make “our” brand one that touches hearts as well as minds? The answer comes in EVERY interaction our Members and our guests have with our brand and that is my challenge to our Board and staff moving forward… to analyze and improve each and every touch- point of our brand.

At the Club, we are many things. We are a restaurant and we HAVE to provide a first class dining experience to our guests. We have to make it easy for them to get information and reservations, and we have ** We depend on our members to bring small items to be used for the raffle. Re-gifting is

DOCENT TOUR OF THE KIMBELL ART MUSEUM'S LATEST EXHIBIT

“SALVATOR ROSA: BANDITS, WILDERNESS, & MAGIC”

Bernini, Caravaggio, and Borromini are familiar names to the Italian art and architecture appreciator, while Salvator Rosa, who created noteworthy and beautiful art during much the same period has remained an unknown to us… until now! The Kimbell Art Museum is presenting the first ever United States exhibition of the work of this Italian Baroque artist who was a star of 17th century Italian art. The thirty-six paintings on exhibit will showcase this rebellious artist's unique and evocative style, focusing primarily on landscapes, the supernatural, and themes from classical literature.

Italian Club of Dallas Members and Guests will be treated to an hour-long docent tour of the exhibit on Saturday, March 26, starting at 10:30 a.m. After the tour, participants can spend more time enjoying the museum's outstanding permanent collection, including the recently-acquired “Christ and the Woman of Samaria” (dated 1619-1620) by Italian artist Guercino. Anyone who would like to spend more time in Fort Worth can enjoy lunch in Sundance Square with other Kimbell tour participants after our time at the museum. (Arrangements will also be made for anyone who would like to carpool to Ft. Worth from the ICD Clubhouse.)

Normal Kimbell exhibit admission prices will apply, but the docent tour is provided to ICD Members at no cost. Admission is free to Kimbell Art Museum members; $8 for adults; $6 for adults 60+ and students with i.d.; and $4 for children 6 – 11. Please contact Mary Ann Webster at [email protected] with any questions. RSVP at the Clubhouse or online at http://rosatour.eventbrite.com.
