THANK YOU!

Welcome to a new normal

While we continue to maintain social distancing behaviours, extra hygiene & cleaning

measures, the start to our new term feels closer to our old way of doing things. Whereas we

were unable to connect face to face with you and the broader school community during Term 2,

we are looking forward to welcoming you back to join in with school activities.

Many of the learning activities that were suspended can resume. They include:

Gardening sessions

Face to face assemblies

Excursions and incursions

Performances and visitors to school

Chess Club

While we know that COVID 19 remains a concern, we feel confident we can safely resume the

activities listed above. Some of the larger gatherings and events we usually host are being

reviewed or will be scheduled for Term 4 when hopefully the situation is contained and settled.

Sports Day, Kidstock and Book Week Parade will be held in Term 4.

All class teachers are planning outings and excursions for this term. Exploring and learning in

new places is our focus this term. There is much to learn by getting out and about. So far, plans

include visits to wetlands, a planetarium, connecting with the Lobethal Kindergarten and a

Nature Play Festival. The term planner is attached with this newsletter.

Students and staff are adjusting to further changes this week to our school, due to building

works. Concrete will be poured on Friday to complete the pathway leading to the oval alongside

Beck and Bronwyn’s classrooms. Some classes have temporary changes to how they enter and

exit their class but 3 days in and the students are managing the changes well. We expect

normal access to classrooms to be restored by mid Term 3.

Communication update

One of the best things to come from COVID has been how we have all had to adjust and create new and

innovative ways to stay in touch. The Virtual Assemblies we shared last term were very popular and students

had a lot of fun making them for you. We have decided to keep them in place for Term 3 as there was lots for

students and staff to learn about creating movies and using media.

We have updated our communication schedule to include a mix of both face-face and Virtual Assemblies for

Term 3. Parents are welcome to attend assemblies, with social distancing measures in place.

The schedule will be

Face-face Thursdays 2:20pm Weeks 5, 10.

Virtual released on Thursdays Weeks 3, 6 & 9

Newsletters will be shared via Schoolstream 3 times a term in Weeks 1, 5 & 10. Paper copies will also be

sent home with the eldest child in the family.

Gardening Term 3 & 4

We welcome Jodie Ellery to the role of Gardening Instructor for the remainder of the year. Jodie also works at Littlehampton Primary School

as the cooking instructor in their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Jodie will work in the garden with students every Thursday

afternoon and all day Friday. She will be looking for volunteers to help support students in the garden and to prepare beds for Spring. A

letter will come home from Jodie in the next week.

Lucy Cahill has made the decision to step down from the position to focus on her valuable contributions in the community towards bushfire

recovery and regeneration. We thank Lucy for her passion and commitment to our school garden, food and environmental programs. Many

visitors to our school comment on our beautiful and productive garden, which is a credit to Lucy and all our volunteers over the past years.

Authors’ visit and Writing Workshop Tuesday 28th July

Next Tuesday 28th July all students will meet a local author. They will meet either Katrina Germein or

Marianne Musgrove. This is an excellent opportunity for all students to learn more about the writing

process and how authors use ideas to create stories. There is no cost to families for this incursion.

Many Year 4-7 students have applied to join the Writers’ Workshop that will run next Tuesday afternoon at

Fabrik in the Onkaparinga Woollen Mills precinct. 15 students have been accepted.

Congratulations to the following students:

Brodie Butler, Tilly Selwood, Jaime Bartlett, Charli Kelly, Sophia Olesnicky, Sam McCarten, Bella Winen,

Livinia Waide, Elise Wise, Noah Bartlett, Max Perstik, Kodie Bailey, Rikki- May Hamann, Chelsea Toogood,

Brooke Winen.

I look forward to sharing the writing our talented young authors produce with you.

Welcome back!

We hope everyone had a lovely break and are ready for an exciting term 3!

We had our first Parents and Friends meeting on Wednesday afternoon and I would like to thank those that were able to attend.

We had a successful meeting, nutting out what our school's fundraising will look like for the rest of the year. Our fundraising

events at this stage will continue and with great enthusiasm and excitement we are planning a colour run!!! Still working out

the fine details, however we will keep everyone posted, so watch this space!!!

Our last colour run was held two years ago and the school raised $2619.45. It

would be great if we could be that successful again, but more importantly have

as much fun as we did back then as well!

On the last day of term the school had a casual day, which was organised by the

Year 7 Fundraising Group. The children raised $187.30, great job! This money

raised will go towards the kitchenette being built as part of the gym extension.

Our next Parents and Friends meeting will take place on Wednesday 19th of

August at 2pm. If you are free your welcome to attend.

Homelessness Week

Week 3 is ‘Homelessness Week’ with the theme ‘Everybody needs a home’.

As part of Wellbeing groups we will be learning about homelessness. On Thursday 30th July we encourage each child to come to

school in casual comfortable clothes and as part of bringing awareness to those more in need we ask that each child brings

canned foods (or other non-perishable food) as their donation. (These items be brought to school in advance if easier).

Throughout the Wellbeing session we would love to make a whole school acknowledgement using the donated food items. This

will take place on the oval (weather permitted) where all the students of Lobethal Primary will join together to show that we care

and our solidarity on an important issue.

The Wellbeing leaders will collect the donated items and I will ensure they get to Fred’s Van in Elizabeth. Fred’s Van is a food

service for people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and marginalisation in Adelaide. Fred’s

Van has over 500 volunteers and provides approximately 550 meals a week. Below is the link for more information on what

Fred's Van do.
