Rainbow Party (Reception) :
Reception Class News
In Reception we have been busy learning all about under the sea with our new topic.
We have been using sea creatures to make up our own addition and subtraction
problems and have been doing so well with it. We are true maths superstars!
In the hot weather, we have been keeping cool by playing in the water trays and
having fun with our friends. As our current topic and our Role play areas linked
beautifully with the hot weather, the children were treated to an ice lolly to cool
them down after one of the hottest days of the year. They were enjoyed by all.
Thank you for your support with sun cream and hats. As the weather is up and down,
please make sure children are still creamed before school in case the sun pops his
head out later in the day.
The Reception Team
Year 1 Class News
In Year 1 we have started our new topic of ‘Magic’. The children really enjoyed watching a magic
show put on by Miss Dhoot and Miss Gattuso – they were in awe and completely intrigued as to how
the trick worked. The children were then given the opportunity to make the trick for themselves; a
very magical and enjoyable activity, which the children loved!
Since then, the children have written a set of instructions to tell others how to make the magic trick.
We have also had a peep at the first page of our Topic book ‘The Magic Finger’ by Roald Dhal. The
children loved making predictions about what might happen in the story and they enjoyed taking
part in hot seating to try and elicit what each character was like. We are looking forward to learning
more about the characters and plot in the coming weeks.
We would like to say thank you for all your hard work practising alien words with your child at home – it really was
a massive help. As a year group we are now trying to focus on spelling tricky words accurately. If you would like to
practise this skill at home with your child then we would be very grateful. You may still have the tricky word mat
given to you at parents evening, but if you would like a copy then please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Year 1 Team
16/6: Sebby Tharme, Jack Case, Sophie Gerrard, Alex Whitcher-Rodrigues, Tallulah Emerton, Corinna Consolos, Emmie Hawkins, Amelie Major, J-J Brown, Max Stallion, Florence Carr, Rosa Spence, Ellah Dickinson-Porter, Evie Chavez-Munoz, Taylor Vernon-Mulryan, Max O’Mahony, Luke Best, Amelia Turner-Green, Kitana Cookman, Bianka Bednarz, Tilly Williams-Wilson, Jade McGrath.
23/6: Freddy Winter, Gerard Holmes, Tilly Williams-Wilson, Luke Best, Aliah Somera, Caitlin McGrath, Max O’Mahony, Naethan Hilario, Aaliyah Poole, Elliot Motte, Jade McGrath, Kitana Cookman, Jack Case, Corinna Consolos, Lily Fletcher, Ellah Dickinson-Porter, Femi Joseph, Robyn Payne, Matteo Cassettai-Brown, Nicol Skala-Puch, Sebby Tharme, Emmie Hawkins, Oliana Ford, Tallulah Emerton, Nathan Buckiewicz, Sophie Gerrard.
Year 2 Class News Year 2 have completed their ‘Art Attack’ topic and discovered that the Mona Cheesa was stolen by a
crafty team of little mice in disguise – as they wanted to win the prize of a year’s supply of cheese! The children designed
their own costumes to disguise William the detective cat and they came up with some very imaginative ideas and fantastic
adjectives to describe each of the items of their disguises – get them to tell you theirs!
The children have also really enjoyed our recent science work where they have tested bread going mouldy
in different conditions, monitored the growth of the class sunflower, sorted animals into herbivores,
carnivores and omnivores, looked at food chains in the ocean, the Arctic, the African savannah, and UK
forests, the human body parts and our senses, and comparing objects’ materials and properties. The
children were able to write equipment lists and methodologies, make predictions and record results.
Over the final part of this half-term the children will be learning about animals’ habitats in
different parts of the world, as well as exploring poetry writing. Our new topic is all about ‘The
Rainforest’ and our focus text is ‘One Night, Far from Here’ by Julia Wauters. The book uses ace-
tate to create a ‘window-look’ effect on every other page in order to hide and then reveal the
wide variety of animals that live in each habitat. The book is also language-rich in terms of ani-
mal names and adjectives and so will hopefully engage and inspire them to write their very own
creative poems.
The Year 2 Team
The Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul Our visit to the Southbourne Site to celebrate our school feast day was a huge success, despite the
weather. Although we were not able to gather as a whole school, we had a wonderful liturgy in the
school chapel with Juliette, one of our school chaplains. The children were a credit to you all - we
were extremely proud of them as always. They listened beautifully, acted with great reverence and
sang their hearts out. It was a truly uplifting experience for everyone involved.
Good News
We are thrilled to be able to share with you the fact that our results are very strong again this year. 79% of
our Reception children have achieved a ‘Good Level of Development,’ with 97% meeting the Early Learning
Goal in Reading! In the Year 1 Phonics Screen 92% of our Year 1 children met the standard expected for their
age. Year 2 worked with great maturity and faultless effort throughout their Key Stage 1 ‘Quizzes.’ Again, they have done
extremely well, with 85% reaching the expected standard in Maths, 87% in Reading and 75% in Writing. 33% of our Year 2
children are working above the expected standard in reading. We are proud of all of our children because they strive to
achieve their personal best every day. I would like to thank parents for their support, especially with Reading, because it is
our close partnership that makes all the difference. I would also like to thank the dedicated teaching staff who work tirelessly
to ensure that, above everything else, the children are enjoying an exciting, engaging Curriculum.
They do a fantastic job day-in, day-out to ensure that all of the children in their care love learning.
Miss Wogan
Father’s Day Celebration It was lovely to see so many of you able to join us at our special celebra-
tion assembly for all the significant men in our lives. The children enjoyed
sharing their ‘Dad-dancing,’ jokes and singing talents with you all. Thank
you to Carole for making such delicious Brownies to make the occasion
extra special!
Play Trail Update
Thank you to Mrs Evans, Mrs Czechak, Mr and Mrs Wagner for giving their time to sell
Ice Pops every Friday and to Mrs Preston and Mrs Malone for organising our Sunflower
race. Thank you also to Miss McDonald who is working hard to make our upcoming
Fun Day another fundraising success. It is fantastic to see our fundraising total
continue to grow. The PTA have kindly agreed to put some additional funds towards
the safety surface required for our adventure play trail. This means that we should be able to go ahead
with ordering and installing this exciting addition to our grounds very soon!
Fun Run Congratulations to 1G who raised a combined total of £879.35! This was the highest class amount
raised by any class for our Easter Fun Run. 1G will be treated to a mini Pizza Party on Friday 7th July
to thank them for their amazing fund raising efforts. Our final fundraising total from the Fun Run
alone was £3175.64! Well done to everyone and thank you again for supporting this cause.
FUN DAY
Our Fun Day is being held on Saturday 15th July from 11.30am to 2pm. As usual we will be also holding our Sports Day event that day, from 11.30am. We would be very grateful for any donations of items we can use for raffle prizes or for the auction. These donations can be brought into the school office from Monday 10th July. Please may we ask for any cakes or food items to be brought in on Friday 14th July.
Each Year group will be collecting specific items for other stalls as outlined below:
· Second hand children’s clothes or school uniform (St peters primary only) - can we please ask for these to be clean and sellable condition (Year R)
· Any old children’s books and toys (Year 1)
· Bottles of alcohol (wine…) (Year 2)
Could these contributions please be taken to the relevant class teachers.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sunflower Competition
Thanks to all those who are participating in the sunflower competition. This has
raised an amazing £281 towards our school playground fund. We are receiving
information that certain tactics are being employed! There are rumours that
fertilisers have been purchased, tips are being trawled from the internet and some
plants are being spoken to daily!!!! Good luck to everyone.
Stewarts Garden Centre
We would like to thank Stewarts Garden Centre for kindly do-nating some vouchers to the school. This has enabled us to en-hance the Reception classes outdoor area. Mrs Walker used the vouchers to purchase some scented plants for the raised bed sensory garden and also some hanging baskets filled with strawberry plants. The children have really enjoyed planting them and watching them grow.
Thank you for sending in the Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers. We have more than doubled the total we received last year. We will exchange them for cooking equipment and our student council have requested a drinks dispenser, so we are getting one of those also. If you have any spare vouchers lying around, please still send them in, as any unused vouchers can be carried over and used next year.
Brother Lionel Contributions
Collections for May were £32.12. Thank you for your continued support. If you would like more infor-
mation about Br Lionel and the amazing work he does please go to:
