Aerie #2102 St. Albert, Alberta January/February/March 2015
2102 EAGLE Tales “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You
don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't
have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated
by love.
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Congratulations to Ball Busters! Tammy, Mark, Ed,
Paul & Bob S. Winners of the fall/winter 9 Ball League.
A Message from your President Well, the first month of 2015 has quickly slipped by and we were very fortunate to have enjoyed many days above zero
and see a fair amount of snow disappear. I sincerely hope that everyone has recovered from the seasons festivities and
have had an opportunity to replenish your wallets.
Reminder 2102 does have a very good web site, an excellent way to keep up with what is happening at the Aerie.
Membership renewal is now overdue. Dues must be paid by March 31st or membership will be dropped. Our
membership is holding its own with a few new members initiated February7th.
Aerie sports; pool, curling and darts are doing very well. The Bruce Campbell pool tournament is coming up on the
13 - 15 of March and is always a very well run and fun event.
Friday night suppers are still well attended and the meals are great! Thank you so much to those volunteers for their
dedication and hard work.
We had 4 of our members attend a very successful provincial officers meeting in Lethbridge on the 17th of January.
We also had 5 members go to Calgary to work a provincial casino on the 2nd and 3rd of January, this was a very
interesting drive on the icy highway #2.
We are also looking forward to hosting Provincial curling 27 Feb - 1 March
and are expecting teams from Calgary, Regina, Lethbridge and Swift Current.
The Pacific Northwest mixed curling bonspiel will be hosted by Calgary on
the 13-15 March. Provincial darts will also be hosted by Calgary 27-29 March.
For more information on these events contact the club.

way.

speak with Doug Kennedy, he will be placing orders for the spring.
We are thrilled to tell you in a recent February Aerie meeting it was decided to purchase two new pool tables for the club.
Maybe this will help with some of our games!

2015 International Convention
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
July 13 - 16 Eagles Are Taking Over Milwaukee!
The Grand Aerie is happy to announce that the Milwaukee
Hotels are ready to start booking room reservations for the 2015
International Convention!!
As you may or may not know, due to Major League Baseball’s
All-Star Game, the International Convention was forced to leave
Cincinnati on short notice and will now be having the 2015
Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Milwaukee is the former home of the F.O.E.’s International
Headquarters and they are planning some nice surprises for
everyone this summer. One will be a special venue for the
Thursday Night President’s Reception, if you’re planning to
attend make sure you don’t leave early so you can join in on all
the fun and see the “Eagles’ Million Dollar Ballroom” which was
the opening concert hall for Buddy Holly’s final tour.
Milwaukee is very excited that the F.O.E. will be in their great
city once again….and yes – you can get a tour of the Harley
Davidson Museum and factory while you’re in town!
Before you make your hotel reservation, there are some things you
need to know:
1. The ladies ritual Competition will be taking place at the Hyatt
Hotel, along with some of the Auxiliary food functions.
2. The Aerie Ritual Competition will be taking place at The
Hilton, along with a few Aerie food functions and Monday’s
“Eagles Night Out” event.
3. The Wisconsin Center will host the general sessions, evening
entertainment, offices, registrations and breakout sessions. It is
located in the middle of the two hotels, which are connected by
skywalks.
Hospitality suites will take place mainly in the Hilton with
limited space also available in the Hyatt.
Kid’s Christmas Party…another
huge success
Our 30+ kids were well entertained by
Kip the Jester. A lot of adults found
him funny too.
Damien and Laura Sweeney were
great as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Laura
and Georgie made ice cream cone
cakes for the kids and Mrs. Claus
handed them out as each child said
"hi" to Santa. A big thanks to Laura
and Damian for participating again
this year.
The kids were served pizza after Santa
handed out their goody bags.
Thank you to Diane Parks for
contributing dessert-cookies and
cupcakes. Thank you to Ken Jones for
contributing the ever favorite Dilly
Bars.
Last but not least thank you to
Georgie G. for all her help.
The party would
not be the same
without her.
Also thanks to
to Patty C. for
her help.

Charity Spotlight
SAIF
Violence has been recognized as a major
health problem that affects not only the
health of students in schools, but inhibits
schools accomplishing their primary mission
of education. It makes sense that schools
should be involved in violence
prevention. As educators are not experts in
this area, it is important that they seek help
from those who have that expertise. The
SAIF Education program is designed to
increase awareness and to curb violent and
intimidating behaviours among elementary,
junior high, and high school students. The
program consists of interactive workshops
incorporating videos, games, role-playing
and discussions. Each workshop is modified
to suit the age level of students and includes
a range of topics specific to curriculum and
issues. Topics include Anti-bullying, Anger
Management, Sexual Harassment, Conflict
Resolution, Healthy Relationships, Dating
Violence, Tolerance and Empathy, Media
Violence, and Family Violence.
Since 1989, the Stop Abuse In Families (SAIF) Society
has provided services to clients that are experiencing
abuse and its devastating effects to the family unit. They
also offer support groups, and provide educational
prevention programs to schools and groups in our
community.
