CAMPOur 2/3 and 4/5/6 Camps this year, were again a lot of fun with the students learning so many new skills. It was great to hear about the student’s experiences and also get some feedback about how wonderful the students were when they were out and about in the community. It’s nice to see our trademark values of, Respect, Excellence, Care and Teamwork really happening through the student’s actions. I would like to thank all staff for giving up their time (voluntary) away from their own families to run such a great camp experience for our students. Teachers spend many extra hours planning to ensure students are cared for and have a great experience at camp.

REMEMBRANCE DAYMonday November 11th our students conducted a Remembrance Day Service here at school which was a time to reflect and remember. The students did a fantastic job as always and showed great leadership. Sam Robinson and Tyra Toki represented our school and attended the Warrnambool Remembrance Day Service. Well done everyone!

STAFFING 2020As was communicated last week via Flexibuzz, we are in the process of finalising staffing for next year. Miss Watt has gained a classroom teaching position at Warrnambool East Primary School next year, which is an exciting opportunity for Miss Watt and we wish her all the best. We thank Miss Watt for all her work the past two years here at Woolsthorpe. Mrs Cumming will continue in a part time capacity in 2020 and will run our Specialist Programs in Sport and Art. Brendan Clifford will join our teaching team in 2020. Brendan has been teaching this year at Terang College in Grade 1-2 and is excited to join our school community. We welcome Mandy Jones to our school community as acting Principal for term 1 and 2 next year. Her

substantive position is Assistant Principal at Merrivale Primary School, however she has been the Acting Principal for Term 2, 3 & 4 this year. Mandy brings a wide experience over many years both in teaching and leadership to the Principal position at Woolsthorpe and I’m sure you will make her feel very welcome.

PANCAKE SHIFTS Planning by our PFA for the January markets and future pancake shifts is in full swing. The pancake shifts are one way ALL parents can get involved and help out. Our famous Woolsthorpe Primary School Pancakes each year raise much needed funds for extra programs at our school. The school cannot subsidise camps and excursions, provide extra resourcing and have our low school fees without the funds that are raised from our pancake shifts. We ask nicely that you consider doing a pancake shift and see how much fun it can be getting to know other families and taking pride in representing our school community. As the saying goes many hands make light work.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

ENROLMENTS ALWAYS WELCOMEIf you know of new families to the area or families wanting to attend our school please encourage them to visit and discuss enrolment. We often have student’s enrol between now and the beginning of next year. Please help spread the word about our wonderful school.

This month at our school council meeting we worked through and discussed the School Council Self- Assessment Tool.   This is a tool developed by the Department of Education to help School Council body’s self-reflect and evaluate our effectiveness.  It was a great opportunity to identify our strengths, areas of improvement and ensure that we continue to remain focussed in action- to reflect the whole of school community.  This process found some great discussion and provided further clarity around our responsibilities.  Department of Education identify that an effective School Council is characterised by mutual sharing of information, knowledge and ideas. There is a focus on dialogue in which all school community members are able to exchange information, share experiences, honestly express perspectives, pose questions and clarify viewpoints – I feel proud to report that our School Council is effective and demonstrates this described interaction well.  The plan moving forward will be to seek some School Council Governance Training, to benefit both new Council members and revision for those who have attended previously. Following this, we are seeking the whole of school communities feedback and ideas:

As we begin thinking about how best to develop a new Billy McNeil playground, School Council are eager to hear what ideas

the school community have.  If you have any ideas for the playground please email

[email protected]  or text/ call 0458629710 and we can bring your ideas to School Council

discussion & decision making.

CARAMUTANDDISTRICTGARDENCLUBPride of Madeira Echium candicans This plant comes from the Canary Islands or Madeira. The bright blue, purple or pink flowers appear in late spring and summer. The honeyeaters love them. They have hairy leaves and if eaten, can cause stomach upsets.

They are very frost hardy and do well in a dry climate, well drained soil with full sun. I never water mine, but after a dry summer, they do look rather unhappy. They seed freely and can also be grown from cuttings. In fact, they are on a Weed Alert for much of the state. Each branch can reach up to 3.5 metres tall with the flower spikes reaching lengths of 200 - 400 mm. The root system must be robust as it supports so many long flower stems. They plants can become rather woody, but can be cut back any time after flowering.

Our Christmas Luncheon is on Tuesday 10th Dec at noon at Micky Bourke’s Pub, Koroit. Please bring a potted plant to exchange and the money for the raffle tickets.

Visitors are always welcome.

He who would have nothing to do with thorns must never attempt to gather flowers.
