Message from the Coordinator

Students and staff’s health wellbeing is our main priority at Al Iman College Early Learning Centre as we have all the younger children with us. The educators are busy rolling up their sleeves to ensure that the toys, equipment and furniture of AIC ELC is constantly sanitized every day. Do practice good hygiene during the school holidays, stay safe and take care. Have a great holiday and we will see you when the centre re-opens in Term 2. May Allah Ta’ala shower us with ‘Aafiah and ease all our affairs.

Quran Department

This year, the mode of teaching Quran was changed for Foundations students with them being introduced to the Al-Qaaidah An-Nooraniyyah. In making use of the new class structure, the students were able to take part in many fun group activities to boost their recognition and familiarity with the letters they were learning.

Students, of all year levels, were involved in numerous surah-based activities in

relation to the Surah they had been memorising throughout Term 1. In addition to

this, students from Year 3 – 6 also completed an end of term project for their surah

of the term. As the Year 3’s had been memorising Surah Al-Qaariah (which mentions

the weighing of deeds on the day of judgement), students were required to create a

working balance scale from common household recyclables while the Year 4’s were

required to make a poster based on the meaning of Surah Al-Bayinnah.

Don’t forget to read with your child, no matter how old they are! Research confirms that reading aloud to your or

with a child is one of the best ways to encourage fluent, lifelong readers. No matter where they go in life, reading

is a foundational skill that will serve them wonderfully well, not to mention that it’s great fun to spend that time

together!

Please send us an email, call, or come into the library any time you want to talk about books, kids, reading,

or anything else related to the library. We’re always glad to see you,

but just be aware that the students always get our attention first! Happy reading!

The Foundations’ Trip to Animal Land Children’s Farm

As a part of our science unit this term, the students have been learning about Living Things and developing an understanding of what people and animals need to stay alive.

On Wednesday the 4th of March, the foundation students enjoyed an exciting and activity-filled day at the farm.

The children were excited to take a ride on Chester the pony. We learned that although Chester was small, he was fully grown! The children also met Pip the Cow and helped to milk her and even churned some butter which they later ate as a delicious snack at lunch time. We visited some chickens and saw mother hens sitting on eggs so that they can hatch baby chicks. The farm’s garden was impressive and full of vegetables, the children helped to plant some sunflower seeds!

We were lucky enough to feed some ducks, goats and sheep. We also had a fantastic tractor ride around the farm to look at all the animals in their different habitats.

Some foundation students shared their favourite part of the day:

“I like the playground because it has a car.” – Abdul Ahad FA

“I love holding the chicken because I am the cat.” – Maryam FA

“I enjoyed the tractor ride because we went up and down the hill.” – Sulaiman FB

“I liked the pony ride because it was fun” – Salsabeel FB

“I love feeding the sheep it felt really, really ticklish and touching the rabbits.” - Safia FC

“I like the rabbit, it felt fluffy.” - Zaid FC

Overall it was a wonderful and educational trip. We thank all the teachers, integration aides and parent volunteers who attended as it wouldn’t have been possible without them.

Year 2 Journey

Alhamdulillah this year, students started with a great excitement in their new classes. They were set for an engaging time as they have

been developing greater levels of independence in learning. Year 2’s are encouraged and supported in becoming more responsible for

their own learning and achieving desired outcomes, with an emphasis on aiming for “doing your best” all the times.

Teachers and support staff are dedicated to provide a curriculum which caters for the needs and abilities of all students. The support

extends to student academic development, their social and emotional well-being.

We also have many encouraging awards for deserving students and any type of positive behavior witnessed by either the student,

teacher or any other member of our school. Our students are awarded with Merit Certificates, Student of the week and the Salat Gems

certificates. We are excited to see how much they can accomplish this year!

Year 3B Achievements

The students of Grade 3B had an thrilling start of Twenty20 (by not having a cricket match). The boys worked amongst themselves to set classroom rules for learning. They went on excursion to the Melbourne Zoo to learn and explore. The boys were allocated to different houses and Captain and Vice Captains were chosen. Apart from in-class competitions, the boys took on the challenge of leading the school in Literacy Planet (13000 + points) and taking 367 green cards collectively, with 23 students in 10 or more green card in one term category. Having accomplished their mission, the boys cleaned and packed up their classroom and went home, to come back again with more renewed energies and enthusiasm.

Zoo Excursion Journal Entry On the 11.02/2020 our class went to the Melbourne Zoo.

When we arrived there, we went into the giraffe enclosure.

At the giraffe enclosure, we saw where giraffes sleep at night. There

were black cushions fixed high up on the walls so they could rest their

heads at night while they were sleeping. We saw a machine that has

food in it. When the zookeepers fill it, the machine goes up so the food

is high enough for the giraffes to eat. There was also a heater on the

wall because giraffes like to stay warm.

We learnt that the giraffe has a long tongue covered in mucus and it

has four stomachs. They share the same habitat as zebras.

I enjoyed learning about giraffes and overall the excursion was fun!

-Full day to create a smoothie brand

In Term 1, Week 5 Year 4 and 5’s had an enterprise education program

“The Smoothie Bar” as part of their learning in Economics and Business unit.

This incursion was well linked with inquiry-based learning and STEAM education.

This incursion provided students with real-world experiences to equip students

with the SKILLS, TOOLS and KNOWLEDGE to understand the key concepts in

Economics unit. Grade 4 and 5 students loved the program and enjoyed every bit

of it.

In this incursion, students were challenged to create a smoothie brand and

marketing campaign that promotes health and wellness within their community.

Working in teams, they had to create their own Smoothie Business. students

went through the process of creating their brand by collecting market research trough surveying on their flavour and adjusting as neces-

sary and coming up with a price point They researched nutrition, then blend and then test their smoothies, with trial and error encour-

aged. Using their digital literacy skills, students developed marketing materials to promote and sell their product. Then it came down to

The Pitch – which team will best present their research, findings, results and marketing to a panel of teacher judges.
