Dear Parents and Carers,

The end of February is upon us and so is the snow, which resulted in a school closure that is far from ideal. Hopefully the bad weather will soon pass and we can get back to normal.

February is always a very short month in the school calendar and yet we have managed to squeeze in: a Science and Design and Technology week, several school trips, Year 6 Parents Meetings, a Road Safety Roadshow for pupils in Key Stage 1 and a presentation from the NSPCC about what steps children can take when they are worried or frightened by a situation. In assemblies, I have continued with the NSPCC theme as it is important for pupils to be aware of how the NSPCC message fits within the school context. I have shared with pupils a brief overview of mine and Miss Ilsley’s role as Child Protection Officers and how we support staff to ensure that all pupils feel safe while at school. In the next few weeks, I will review with pupils, especially with the older ones, how we can keep themselves safe online. We live in an online world and it is important for our pupils to know how to engage in a safe and sensible manner. Also, as parents/carers, it is important for you to know how to support your child navigate their way through the online world safely and with confidence.

Parents Meetings are scheduled for the afternoon of March 15th. The meetings are an opportunity to review the progress your child has made since the last meeting and to discuss next steps. On Monday 12th March, you will receive the first part of the Annual Reports to Parents, which includes targets that are set for our child to work on with the aim of achieving them by the end of the summer term. Please be aware that it is important to read the report prior to meeting with the teacher as you will be able to discuss the level of support required and how both home and school can work together for the greater good of the child.

If I don’t see you before, I look forward to seeing you on March 15th.

Regards,

Mr L Walker

Hockey Competition Chadwell represented the school and did themselves proud in an exhila-rating hockey competition on Wednesday 7th February 2018. We found out the day before one of the school’s couldn’t attend so therefore we had 4 teams in our group including us. 5 points for a win, 3 for a draw and 1 for a loss. We arrived with plenty of confidence and excitement. We got ready and arrived on the AstroTurf to have our warm-up. The children was look-ing very professional in their Chadwell PE uniform. Once we got called onto pitch 1 the players were ecstatic to say the least! They all knew their formations and waited for the whistle to blow to start the game. The first five minutes were very intense, end to end action! Each team could have scored two or three goals each but as time went on both teams defended extremely well and done themselves proud. In the remain-ing two or three minutes Cleveland Primary was working hard to gain their only goal, but Chadwell Primary was defending magnificently and didn’t concede. The final whistle was blown and it ended 0-0. Both teams con-ducted themselves extremely well and done both schools proud. We had to wait an hour and a half due to another school dropping out, so we decided to have our lunch to regain our energy for our remaining two games. We went back out an hour later for half an hour of practice. Each child took on their individual tasks and roles. Chadwell Primary and Churchfield Primary where called onto pitch two to face each other. The players got into their formation and where ready to play. The game started very quickly and Churchfield had the upper hand. They attacked straight away and scored within the first minute. Mr Haywood and Mr Nordon encouraged our players to keep going and don’t give up! But as soon as the second goal went in Chadwell’s head’s started to drop. But we didn’t give up, we battled through but it wasn’t enough to score any goals. The game ended 5-0. After the game, we sat down and went over the game. We gave them the opportunity to talk through the game and what we could do better for our last remaining game. Once we had the talk, we went over a few tactics.

Our last game was against Woodford Green. Again, another difficult game. Chadwell was full of confidence and couldn’t wait to get started. Once the whistle was flown, Woodford attacked and Chadwell couldn’t keep up with Woodfords pace. They scored within the first two minutes. Mr Haywood and Mr Nordon saw a big difference in attitude, their heads didn’t drop nor was anyone moaning at each other which was a big improvement. They all encouraged each other throughout the game. Woodford scored another three to make it 4-0 to round of the tournament. Both teams shook hands and ended the game very professional. All in all, the day was very well run and we would like to thank Teresa (Redbridge sports organiser) for organizing such an amazing competition and therefore we wish all the schools good luck in future competitions. The children done Chadwell Primary School and themselves extremely proud.

WELL DONE CHADWELL!!!!
