Director’s Message,

Welcome back everyone. As we move into the new year, we’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions about things you’d like to see in the newsletter, and also about programs and events you’d like to see happen at the Senior Center or in the community.

I know the popular MVP Chair Moves is resuming this month, and Carla Schlist will be here in March to offer Zumba Gold on Thursday’s at 10:30 am. Don Romines will be here as Elvis on Friday, February 24th. Tickets for dinner and the show are available now. Proceeds will be used to help pay for the purchase and installation of the new stove. Those are just a few highlights.

We are all very excited that our building is coming back together. In November of 2011, the roof was replaced, the leaking stopped, and the buckets were put away. The City started working on replacing all of the ceiling tiles just before the first of the year, and they are nearly finished. They have started working on other projects to restore the building to the beautiful Center we have always been proud of. The staff at the Department of Public Works (DPW) has done a fanatastic job so far, and we’ve really appreciated their efforts. It almost feels like they’ve become part of our team here with all of the work they’ve done. Thank you DPW. We know you all work hard to constantly tackle everything from water main breaks and snow removal to trash removal and city clean-up, and we appreciate it.

With the building coming together and more people beginning to think about how they they can be a part of supporting the work we do, I can say that 2012 has gotten off on a much better start than 2011. We hope we can continue the momentum that began last summer and continue to get stronger and become more relevant to our community. I think that, together, we can make that happen. By continuing the dialogue about what we do, what the community thinks we are doing well, what we could be doing better, and what they’d like to see us do that we are not currently doing, we can create opportunities for every adult as they age in the community. This also means we will need people to jump in with both feet to help plan programs, events, fundraisers, and even help pack meals or help make meatballs for dinner. Become a member. Come to a meeting. Get involved.

If there is anything I have learned from all of you, its that the limits of aging are mostly those we place on it.
