From The Principal’s Office

It has been another great week of learning at DWPS. This week our grade threes and fives have been completing NAPLAN, as you know it has been online and luckily our systems have worked ok, we have only

experienced a couple of hiccups, so we are hoping it continues fine over the test window over this week and next. We are super proud of the way the students are trying their best and showing this platform what they can do. As a school, we use the data/results to help us lead what our programs need to entail. It is a great check in and a way to compare to our assessments and student work at school to see what our students need and what they can achieve. Next week is EDUCATION week, this year’s theme is Careers, the future is going to hold so much for our students and with careers evolving each day, it will be certainly be interesting in 20 years time, in what our student will be achieving in their careers. We all have high aspirations for all our students and can’t wait to see everyone’s dress up next Friday, in what they want to be when they grow up! We are also having an open morning for our 2020 students, the Junior area will be buzzing with activities and with people wanting to see how great DWPS is. Don’t forget this Friday, we are encouraging students to wear some pink in their outfit for the day, yes they are allowed to wear Casual Clothes and bring a gold coin donation to towards Breast Cancer Awareness. This has evolved from a couple of students wanting to make a difference and we are so grateful to have such caring students. Next Tuesday’s school council meeting is a public meeting for our Annual Report meeting, our annual report will also be available on the website if you are interested. You might noticed our classroom have all got some new bookshelves and each room is creating classroom libraries, they are certainly looking amazing and it have been fantastic to see students connecting to books and enjoying reading. You will also notice our healing garden area is getting some TLC and a freshen up. We have been noticing a bit of inappropriate language and disrespect through put downs, it would be great if you can get a chance to speak to your child/ren about how we speak at to people and the impact of words/tone of voice has on people. We want our students to be great citizens and we know that our students are awesome so we know we can work together to make our students

the best they can be. Have a great week and take care, Kelly Halliday

Our Chaplain Hi everyone, This week in Seasons for Growth we have started looking at the season of winter. In this session children have started to share some of their stories of change and loss. Children participating in the program do much of the learning by interacting with, observing and listening to their peers. In doing so, they come to realise they are not alone in their experience and that others manage difficult changes too. This is an important part of learning how to respond to their particular circumstances. It is also central in normalising their experience and understanding that, “I’m not the only one” As children get older they will recognise times when they experience particular feelings because of the changes that have happened in their family. The imagery of winter can be a useful tool in assisting the children to name their experience and how they are feeling. The winter sessions focus on learning about different ways people experience change and loss. Winter can be a demanding season when nature slows down to renew itself and prepare for spring. Some groups drew a timeline of their families change

from birth to now, identified some of the feelings they

have experienced as a result of this change and thought

of reasons why their family is still special even though

this change has occurred. Other groups looked at what

makes each person special in the group and also shared

their stories of change and started to identify the

feelings associated with this change.

Take care! Wendy Ronalds School Chaplain
