    (quote from archaeoastronomy.com)

This could be the beginning of a great sci-fi story but is it too far fetched? Who wouldbelieve that in 471 C.E. someone from the European side of the Atlantic Ocean trav-

elled all the way to the area where Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico meet and

etched into a sandstone wall details regarding a rare astronomical event taking place

    on August 8th, 471 C.E.? Wasnt Columbus

the first European to reach North America

in 1492? This story might be bad sci-fi if it

    weren't for one thing...

The picture to the right was taken in a

Colorado cave and those ancient Celtic let-

ters etched in the walls are referencing

that astronomical event in 471 CE.

    At www.archaeoastronomy.com you will

find evidence that suggests that Indo-

Europeans were here in the midst of North

America long before Chris made his

    trans-Atlantic crossing. They have pro-

duced a DVD entitled Old News. Here is a

quote from their website about the DVD.

Rock art discoveries over the past generation demon-strate Christopher Columbus was a relative late-comer

among European sailors who explored North America. The exciting evidence, dated by nuclear chemistry, is

carved on the remote sandstone cliffs and within caves

of the rugged Oklahoma panhandle and southeasternColorado canyon country. Written messages in an an-

cient Celtic alphabet known as Ogham survive in prox-imity to the more abundant imagery of the wonderful

petroglyphic art of the Plains Indians. Old News docu-

ments the passion by advocates of pre-Columbian,trans-Atlantic contact and the stunning intolerance of

most professional archaeologists to seriously considerthe evidence. Particularly compelling are ar-

chaeoastronomical links to the Old World. Rock art

shadow plays that occur only at equinox sunrises and

sunsets, a Lughnasad cross-quarter dawn and a sum-mer solstice sunset are all accompanied by predictive

Ogham inscriptions. Additionally, engraved constellation maps tie these remarkable finds

to distinctively Indo-European understandings of the Zodiac in ancient times. The "Noble

Twins" inscription, for example, memorializes 3 planets traveling through the Gemini Con-

stellation, a rare and noteworthy event for ancient skywatchers, observed just beforedawn on Lughnasad, August 8, 471 CE. Woven into some of the star maps are secrets of

the initiates in an arcane, astral religion known as Mithraism that pre-dated Christianity.

Mithras and his entourage are symbolic participants in a revealing shadowcast --- a vir-tual ancient motion picture --- at equinox sunset in Oklahoma's Anubis Cave. Unless pro-

fessional anthropologists take an interest, all these threads to the past may simply be for-

    gotten.

No, this isnt sci-fi but sometimes the truth is even stranger than fiction. To many, history

is little more than a boring subject we had to take in school. Instead, with some wise

digging, history can be a fantastic journey through time enabling us to experience an-

cient cultures and civilizations like the Egyptians, Mayans, Incans and Celts. Maybe it is

time that we all do some time travelling and re-visit history but perhaps not the history

    often taught in schools!
