Transcript of Newsletter Dec 2014 MMBNTD
By means of this newsletter we as the commission in
charge, would like to keep you informed of the latest
advances in “Manera mi bos, no tin dos” 2014-2015
(MMBNTD). This way we would like to express our
appreciation and acknowledgement for your contribution
to JCI United Citizens of Curaçao’s main ongoing
community empowerment program. Without your
involvement, MMBNTD wouldn’t have made it this far
and the participating youngsters wouldn’t have
accomplished this much. In the end, everything we are
doing is purely to empower, educate, and develop our
future leaders as stated in our vision and mission.
Vision
To empower our youngsters to become more expressive
and formulate their own opinion based on facts,
knowledge, and good argumentation.
Mission
To provide our youngsters with debating skills, build up
awareness about being more expressive and to induce the
entire society to support this cause.

Introduction Day
After registration we were completely blown off by the
amount of youngsters interested in participating with
MMBNTD. On the 3rd of October 2014 we welcomed the
group of teenagers on a pleasant evening at Biblioteka
Nashonal Kòrsou. On this day, they were introduced to the
JCI UC team, the trainers, as well as the partners involved
with the project. To cover the number of people registered
we opt to organize a second Introduction Day which took
place on October 11th, 2014 at the facility of Biblioteka
Nashonal Kòrsou.
During the introduction days manuals including rules,
schedules, and general information were handed out.
Watching the number of kids who actually did showed up
motivated us even more to continue with the hard work.
There was also a mingle session afterwards where we had
the chance to exchange a few words with the participants.
One could instantly feel and absorb their positive energy
and their true excitement towards the journey ahead.
MMBNTD finally was made a reality with these young
souls which were ready to start with their first course
‘Speech Craft’ at Biblioteka Nashonal Kòrsou and St.
Jozef.
Speech Craft Sessions
On the 13th of October 2014, was it finally possible to
start providing the participants with their first course
namely, speech craft. The candidates were placed into
groups of minimum eight people. The sessions of speech
craft were given on a weekly basis for six weeks long by
clubs of Toastmasters International. The classes were
extremely interactive, in every class, the participants were
able to do impromptu speaking as well as presenting a
prepared speeches of their own. In addition to the trainers
that were appointed by Toastmasters International, there
was always a commissioner of MMBNTD present during
the sessions for supervision. It was remarkable how each
commissioner had practically the same impression and
feelings about the kids. Observing the children performing
during the classes was very inspiring and we have realized
that courage was the last thing these kids were lacking.
They were very energetic, smart, and most importantly
open to learn more and more.
The duration of each session was two hours in which each
participant had the opportunity to develop among others
their speaking abilities, the importance of body language
during speaking, and how to evaluate.

Certification Ceremony
It was a two-day celebration for MMBNTD when
partakers successfully completed the speech craft
sessions. The knowledge gained is not only an advantage
for next year’s debating competition but even more it
should be considered as an added value to the personal
development of each participants. The participants
finalized their first course by providing a three-minute
speech at which friends and family were also invited to be
part of this special occasion. It was all smiles for the kids,
the coordinators, and the organizing team of MMBNTD
when the certificates were handed out. Afterwards there
was certainly time for a toast to congratulate these kids
once more for their achievement that was only possible to
attain through hard work and determination. Even though
they are not aware of this, they are actually the ones who
keep us motivated and going.
“Only by learning shall one develop a learning character that will ultimately
lead by example.”
“On ku…”
On ku Manera mi bos no tin dos is a supportive campaign
that entails the moral support from prominent characters
in our community showing concern for the cause. These
are people who young and elderly look up to, because in
some way they are contributing to the uplifting of the
social responsibility awareness among citizens. Until now
we have three impressive influencers behind this project,
we are referring to the following persons:
Dargello Lodowica represents the baseball team of Atlanta
Braves here on the island by scouting young talented boys
with ambition to become more than just a regular player
in the neighborhood. Furthermore, Dargello does
coaching and training on the field as well as in the sports
center.
Daniel Corsen is a young entrepreneur that focuses on the
improvement of one’s personal development in different
areas and methods, but most importantly thru trainings and
empowerment.

Alton Paas is a motivational speaker that is touching the
lives of many people around him. He is dedicated to
improve the lives of people with disability especially of
those who are in a wheelchair due to spinal cord injury.
Due to the upcoming holidays MMBNTD will continue
