PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Some of our senior students have very capably

represented the school in different areas over the

last few weeks and we are proud of their

achievements. Two of our Year 6 boys, William

and Addison, were members of the Sydney East

Page 2: Newsletter - croydon-p.schools.nsw.gov.au€¦ · Sally was the mastermind behind the helped out in many capacities over the last 5 years, from helping run crafting groups to donating

Boys Cricket team who competed in the NSW

PSSA Boys Cricket State Carnival in Orange. The

team was placed third in the competition and

William and Addison were the two highest wicket

takers for the Sydney East Team. Both boys are

talented sportsmen and great representatives of

our school.

Last Thursday our Year 6 students took part in

Burwood Council’s White Ribbon Day event at

Burwood Park. Dari, one of our school captains,

presented a very thoughtful speech to the large

audience, impressing many of the dignitaries

present.

Last Friday our Year 5 and 6 Mind Marathon teams

were invited to the Championship Day at East Hills

Boys High School. Over the day, the teams

participated in maths, science, geography,

history, engineering, general knowledge and

English challenges. Our Year 5 team performed

particularly well in the engineering challenge. The

teams worked collaboratively and utilised their

problem solving, critical thinking and creativity

skills.

Over the weekend two of our students, Ruby Rose

and Seraphine from Year 6, took part in the 2017

Schools Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena as part

of the massed choir. Both girls are members of the

NSW Arts Unit Junior Singers group and regularly

perform at Department of Education events. Over

5,000 public school students performed in this

year’s event and I am sure it was a very

memorable experience for Ruby Rose and

Seraphine.

Finally, we have had some trouble with our

garbage pick-up on Thursday mornings. The driver

has been arriving around 8.45am and has not

been mindful of the parents and children on their

way to school. We have now arranged with the

company to do the pick-up 7am on Friday

mornings to ensure the safety of everyone.

The Burwood rangers and Highway Patrol have

informed me that they will be carrying out a blitz

in the area surrounding our school. They will be

focusing on parking, mobile phone use while

driving, parking in driveways, children wearing

seatbelts and other traffic offences.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR

LEARNING The Positive Behaviour for Learning focus this

fortnight is being resiliant in the playground. Ask

your child about how they can be resiliant in the

playground this week.

For more information about Positive Behaviour for

Learning and our award system, please see the

school website. On our PBL site, you will find a

matrix that you can use at home to reinforce the

school expectations.

CHESS!!

Learn to be a chess champion! Coaching for students at Croydon Public School is held on: Beginner/Rookie:

Wednesdays from 12:50pm to 1:45pm, starting on 19 July 2017 Intermediate: Wednesdays from 12:50pm to

Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem solving skills, improves

their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment. Activities include group lessons on

a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games.

Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all

good chess players strive to develop.

If your child is interested in taking part, you can collect an enrolment form from the school office, or email

[email protected] for a copy. For all enquiries, please contact Sydney Academy of Chess

on (02) 9745 1170.

Girls and boys are invited to play for Ashfield Cricket Club this coming season. Register online
