DEAR LITTLE CHAPEL ON THE BOARDWALK FAMILY, While you are reading this Marcia and I are getting our annual “granddaughter fix” out in Seattle, Washington. It is not a restful time by any stretch of the imagination, with four girls all under the age of 9, and a puppy, 3 months old, the commotion is constant, but we would not want it any other way. The Year is a time of freshness, new beginnings, a time for second chances, and for many a time to make a couple of resolutions so that 2015 will be better than 2014. I’m not one of those who is much into resolutions, because usually before the first week of January is over, the resolutions I made are either forgotten or just abandoned. That is until I came across this article by Erma Bombeck a few years ago. I am convinced that if all of us would heed these words of advice from Miss Erma, that this world would be a better place. If I Had My Life to Live Over By Erma Bombeck I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and sofa faded. I would have eaten popcorn in the “good” living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace. I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth. I would have never insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed. I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage. I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains. I would have cried and laughed less while watching television – and more while watching life. I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband. I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day. I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime. Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I would have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside of me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, “Later, now go get washed up for dinner.” There would have been more “I love yous”…more “I’m sorrys”…but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute…look at it and really see it… love it…and never give it back. I hope your 2015 will be everything you hope it to be. Blessings, Pastor Pat Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) 2 W. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

A huge, heartfelt “Thank You!!” to all who came out to support the Children’s Christmas Pageant and Youth Pancake Supper! Al-so, we’re deeply moved by the overwhelming support for the

Christmas Eve Luminaries. We sold over 140 luminaries!! Due to the weather on Christmas Eve, we moved the luminaries into the sanctuary and they looked magnificent. A special thank you to Jim Herren and John Moore for guiding us in the kitch-en during our pancake supper. Also, thank you to Maurice Hartslove, for playing Santa Claus, and Maritsa Hartslove for organiz-

ing the candy canes and creating--from what I’ve heard, one of the BEST Children’s Christmas Pag-eants presented at Little Chapel in a while. Also, a HUGE thank you to Shirley Gearhart, Adeline Hines, Gail Miller

and Lisa Jordan for cutting crosses into over 150 white lunch bags in an effort to make our Christmas Eve lumi-naries a huge success!!

December sure has been a very busy month for all our children at Little Chapel. We learned so much about the story of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus. I heard from Jolly Old St. Nicholas that the Chil-

dren’s Pageant held on Dec. 21 was fantastic. Santa was so proud that all the children new the true meaning of Christ-mas. Santa was so happy to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with all of the children that Jesus loves so much. Santa was so proud that everyone pulled together and worked so hard to tell the most important story in the world. One thing we learned from all this is we must trust the Lord and He will take care of us. So as they say, “The show must go on!” A big Thank you to all the adult volunteer angels who helped to make our children’s pageant a big success.

Our Presbyterian Kids Connection also had a “Frozen” event in January. We met at Wrightsville Beach Park and visited with Santa, Mrs. Clause and the Frozen movie characters. We also enjoyed watching the movie even if we did freeze. We had fun eating popcorn and trying to stay warm with lots of hot chocolate and blankets. Mother’s Morning Out children have been very busy hearing Bible Stories,

attending chapel each week, singing songs and making crafts. I feel so blessed to be a part of this wonderful chil-dren’s outreach program. We give a big thank you to Linda Allen for all her many years of service as director of our Mother’s Morning Out program. We also give an extra big thank you to all the volunteers who give their time to the care and Christian edu-cation of our little children in our Moth-er’s Morning Out program. If you have never visited our Mother’s Morning Out program stop by any Wednesday from 9:30 to 12:30 and you will experience the love of Jesus first hand.

What’s coming Up in January for Our Children! We are excited about what the children will be learning in January. They will begin to study the life of Jesus. We will start with the story of Jesus as a boy. To help make our sto-ries exciting and real we will have a Winter Wonderland on

January 18th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. We need your help please sign up to tell a story and make a craft that day. There are many choices of stories of the miracles of Jesus. The Story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus Feeds

the People, Jesus heals a blind Man and Jesus walks on wa-ter. Find a friend to work with and come take the time to tell a story and make a craft with the children. Maybe it will be the first time a little one hears the Bible story. How re-warding it would be to be the first one to tell a little child a story about Jesus. If you need help with the story we have a brand new flannel board story kit that will make story telling easy and exciting for our children. Remember to sign up for our sign language classes starting on Wednesday January 14th from 6:00pm to 7:00 pm. Knowing sign language is a great skill to help communicate with our visual learners and will help our children learn the words to our Bible songs and understand our Bible stories. Of course we will be studying hard in Children’s Church and Sunday school to learn all we can about our Christian Faith and Christian values. Our Cherub choir will continue to practice at 9:15 so they will be ready for the next perfor-mance. Thank you so much for all your support of our Children’s programs. Have a Blessed 2015!

Sunday, January 18, 2015 4:00-6:00PM

Experience the miracles of the winter season! We will learn about how God made each of us special and unique! Join us for

fun fellowship, stories, crafts, games and food.

Please sign up if you can decorate a door for winter and plan a Bible story and craft or game. Children will go from door

to door and listen to a story and do a craft.

Our first Presbyterian Kids Club trip to the Bowling Alley. We sure did have fun making new friends and keeping the old. Even though it was a

rainy day the fun wasn't rained out!

Thursday Morning Bible Study

Winter Series

The Thursday Morning Bible Study will be Children of the Day, a study of First and Second Thessalonians by Beth Moore. In this study we will trace the progress of the early believers who car-

ried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica. Last fall we were so inspired by the study of David, as we recognized the important role that David and his descendants (the House of David) played in the birth and life of Jesus. In this study from the New Testament, we will trace the development of the new church of believers as they struggled to make known the life and death of Jesus Christ the Savior. Just as these early believers carried the Spirit of God, we today carry that light. "You are all chil-dren of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the light or to the darkness." (1 Thessalonians 5:5) This is Beth's latest study and promises to be very engaging. Our study will begin on January 22 at 9:00 AM. The series is a 9 week course. Study books are $16. A signup list will be available in the narthex in January. Please join us!!

For questions, see Jean Schild.

The scholarship committee is pleased to announce that the Roy and Gwyn Towles Memorial Scholarship has been added to the Little Chapel Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is gra-

ciously given by Leslie Towles in memory of her parents, LeRoy Chowning Towles and Gwyndolyn Dicksey Towles, who became members of Little Chapel on April 25, 1954. Scholarship applications for 2015-2016 are available for individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies and may be picked up from the hallway book shelf, across from the church office. Memorials and contributions to the Scholarship Fund are accepted all year. Make checks to LCOB and mark Scholarship Fund.

FLOWERS FOR SUNDAY WORSHIP

In the narthex is a signup sheet for fresh flowers for our sanctuary for Sun-day mornings. Next to this is a small stack of forms to fill out for Martha. Just fill out this form, include your check and put this in Martha’s box across from the office. These flow-ers can be given in memory of someone or in honor of whoever you may choose.

Your flowers actually serve two purposes. They are enjoyed by everyone during worship, then the flow-ers are used to make up smaller arrangements that are taken to our members in care, in the hospital, or ill at home. These people so enjoy receiving flowers that they know were in our sanctuary during worship. This is just another way we can make people who cannot get to church feel that they are still a part of our church family. The cost of one vase is $50. and the cost of two vas-es is $100. If you donate one vase, it will be placed on the communion table. If you donate two vases, they will be placed on the flower stands at the front of the sanctuary. Please note, Communion Sundays (the first Sunday of each month) require two vases. Please consider being a part of this ministry.

Happy Birthday, Jesus!

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN’S COUNCIL

January 25, 2015 11:45AM ~ room 102

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN December is always an exciting month in the life of THE CHURCH. We decorate the inside and outside of the building, sing praises, celebrate with caroling and fellowship with festive dinners, work with the Youth, outreach and missions and remembering "the reason for this Season" that Jesus is Christ the new born King. It is a wonderful time of the year. December brought LCOB new ideas to implement in 2015. First, the scholarship committee is thrilled to announce The Roy and Gwyn Towles Memorial Scholarship is added to LCOB Scholarship Fund. Leslie Towles writes: LeRoy Chowning Towles and Gwyndolyn Dicksey Towles were born and raised in Wilmington. They became members of Little Chapel on April 25, 1954. The have 4 children, 3 of which were baptized at Little Chapel. They later moved to Raleigh. My parents were devoted advocates to the youth programs to help them achieve their hopes and dreams within the fabric of the church and their community. My father went to Paradise in March 1982 and my mother joined him in July 2013. Ms Towles lives in Raleigh but has been invited to visit in the spring when we can introduce her to the Congregation at Little Chapel and properly thank her for giving a living memorial scholarship in her parents memory. The second excitement is at a recent PW Council luncheon we learned Barium Springs is no longer accepting Campbell Soup Labels. We needed a new project. We decided to choose Nourish NC. This is a project to feed hungry chil-dren in New Hanover County. (No more saving labels) If you have a computer and put in Nourish North Caroli-na.org you will be astonished at how many children are hungry in this county. We will be sharing more about this project in the near future. On Dec. 11 Mary Jo Kohunsky representing Missions and I representing PW each presented Beth Hollis the Director of NNC two $500 checks with a promise to select one or two of the opportunities offered to churches, business, indi-viduals and volunteers to help a needed program in this county. Ms. Hollis will speak to session in February and to the PW Gathering in June to give us more information and updates on the program. The third exciting news is many of you who signed up to be on committees, the new Elders, Deacons and new leader-ship in many areas are now beginning their duties imple-menting new ideas and continuing support to LCOB. January 25 is the next PW Council meeting in room 102. At this time the Nominating committee, consisting of Modera-tors and Co-Moderators of the four circles, will present a slate of officers for 2015 - 2017.

Wishing each of you a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Blessed New Year. Iris Davis

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE DINNERS FOR 8

a new supper club is kicking off the new year. This will be a way to enjoy one evening a month with some old friends while making new ones. Beginning in January, there will be a sign up sheet in the narthex if you would like to participate. When you sign up there will be a place for you to check if you are willing to be a hostess for the event. All the hostess will provide is the main dish and the place - everyone else will provide the rest of the meal. We will kick this off the third weekend in March and run through May. Sign-ups will close at the end of February. Then the congregational life commit-tee will put the groups together and get those to the hostesses. The hostess will decide which night on the third weekend of the month they want to have the din-ner. New members, this is a great way to meet other mem-bers of LCOB. Enjoy an evening of food, fun and fel-lowship and make new friends! If you have any ques-tions please call Bonnie Cooper or Marcia Rabun, we will be happy to help you.

Presbyterian Counseling Center CENTERPOINT

It’s A New Year There are numerous definitions for the word “new” including fresh and different from the old. Transformed and reinvigorated are synonyms for “new.” The various definitions and synonyms all imply the promise of something better. We repeat the phrase “Happy New Year” over and over during the holiday season to friends, loved ones and even strangers in anticipation of this being the best year yet. The New Year celebration includes the tradition of making reso-lutions. In making resolutions we are making a promise to im-prove ourselves in some way. Never mind the fact many resolu-tions are forgotten or abandoned in a few weeks! The hope is for a new and better self. The Presbyterian Counseling Center is a resource should you need help in finding hope for something new and better in the new year.
