Newsletter Issue 11 - May 2020 Message from the Principal It's been a shorter school week but we have still had lots of excellent work and rewarding activities going on at home. Many children have been learning about VE Day in preparation for tomorrow's bank holiday and examples of this can be seen on page 3 of this newsletter. We await the Prime Minister's announcement on Sunday about next steps in the nationwide plan for coming out of lockdown and we will of course update you further once we have this information. Enjoy the sunshine over this long weekend! The Google Classroom Live Google Meets Children and teachers have enjoyed reconnecting in the live ‘google meet’ sessions that were planned for this week. We realise this has given a huge amount of pleasure to staff and children alike and that the subsequent excitement and buzz has motivated some who, were understandably, feeling a little down during these difficult times! However, due to the LAT’s ongoing safeguarding concerns surrounding live online contact of any kind, we are sadly unable to continue these live meets into next week as planned, despite taking the utmost precautions to adhere to the safeguarding etiquette. The Trust are looking at ways of facilitating this safely for the future, but in the meantime we can continue to send pre-recorded video links to students, to help with motivation and guidance and we will be looking at other ways to keep the children connected. ‘Hello’ Video Collage You may have been asked in the GC if you would like to send in a video snippet of your child saying ‘hi’ or ‘hello’ or a short message. These snippets will be collated together, to make a short video message to play in the classroom, for the children to watch. It will be lovely to see all the different places the children can say ‘hello’ - in the garden, on the sofa, jumping, skipping - we are sure you can be even more inventive! . Handing in Work Please remember that work MUST only be handed in via assignments on the Google Classroom. Work and photos emailed to the office or to the class email addresses will not be monitored by class teachers as they are based in the google classroom during the school day guiding, marking and commenting on the stream and assignments. In answer to some questions, you can attach multiple photos and files at the same time to an assignment. Here is the video link to remind you how to attach files and photos of work again. This is also on the website under the Home Learning tab - should you mislay your newsletter. Sharing Google Documents Some of our older pupils have asked if they can make a copy of the google documents, edit and share the edited version. For clarity, the short answer is no. Shared work via email will not be received by your class teacher. If there is a need to edit a file as part of your assignment, your teacher will set it to make a copy for you. If the file is view only, it is because your work needs to be completed offline in your blue book. ALL work must be attached and handed in through the assignment so that teachers can give feedback. School Website Our website has a new tab called ‘Home Learning’ where all the information shared with you in recent newsletters has been collated into one place. The Home Learning tab has been split into three key information areas; Additional support for Learning, Support for Parents and The Google Classroom & Tapestry Learning Journal. Video links to help with accessing these learning platforms have also been posted here to help parents/children if they need help! 1

The Google ClassroomLive Google Meets

Children and teachers have enjoyed reconnecting in the live ‘google meet’

sessions that were planned for this week.

We realise this has given a huge amount of pleasure to staff and children alike and that the subsequent excitement and buzz has motivated some who, were understandably, feeling a little

down during these difficult times!

However, due to the LAT’s ongoing safeguarding concerns surrounding live online contact of any kind, we are sadly unable to continue these live meets into next week as planned, despite taking

the utmost precautions to adhere to the safeguarding etiquette.

The Trust are looking at ways of facilitating this safely for the future, but in the meantime we can

continue to send pre-recorded video links to students, to help with motivation and guidance

and we will be looking at other ways to keep the children connected.
