Our innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture empowers and supports every learner.
Principal’s Report Dear Parents, What a fantastic Fair we had on Sunday! The weather was very kind to us and this saw lots of school families and friends enjoying the day. A huge thank you to the P&C for their enormous effort in planning and running the fair. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated and hardworking P&C to support the students and staff at Avoca Beach PS. Staffing news As we announced last week, Mrs Sarah Baldwin has been successful in gaining a Principal position at Chertsey PS, to begin next term. This means we will have an acting Deputy Principal at Avoca Beach PS in Term 4. It gives me great pleasure to announce that Mr Chris Waters will fill that position. Mr Waters is currently Assistant Principal at Erina Heights PS. He will bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to the position and I am very excited about welcoming him into our community. Chess 6 students attended Wyong High School for a chess tournament last Thursday. Our chess club has continued to grow this year and we are producing some very talented chess players. I want to also acknowledge the work of Mrs Fyffe to coordinate chess in our school and give our students a variety of opportunities. K-2 Athletics We are trying again for our K-2 athletics carnival this Friday. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us this time. The carnival will run from 9.30 – 12.20pm. We welcome all K-2 parents to come along and enjoy the morning with us. Wall of Fame Last week I had a visit from Amelia in KS to show me her writing. It is just amazing to see how far our Kindergarten students have come with their writing skills since the start of the year. Izzy and Sophie in 3A had their art works added to my Wall of Fame. They both used their skills in collage and drawing to produce excellent cityscapes. I was also very proud of Sam in 4W last week. Sam is the first person to join the Literacy Pro Millionaires club. Terrific effort Sam! Ben Thomas Principal Quote of the Week “Winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit.” – Edwin Louis Cole

PBL Week 9 - Fair Play This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful, responsible and perform our personal best when playing sport games at school. Students have recognised the importance of playing fair and playing to the school rules. Our school expectations require students to be responsible and always return the school balls to the correct area. Students are demonstrating respectful behaviour by sharing the space and performing their personal best by playing fair.

Such a great community we live in. The sun was shining and smiles were bright. The food was delicious. The Fair
has been a huge success raising lots of funds for our fabulous school, we will have final figures next week. A massive
Thank You to everyone who helped over the weekend setting up, carting tables, books, BBQs, tents and everything
else into place to turn our school into a Fair Ground and then packing it all up to have it right for the kids this
morning. We cannot run this Fair without all of your help. A special Thanks to the parents who volunteered as Stall
Coordinators and put in all the extra hours before Fair Day to get everything they needed and fill rosters for the day.
Thanks to Tanya, Kellie and Sarah and the money counters who were hiding away all day counting money and
sending coins and notes to where they were needed. A big shout out and thanks to Ali Dancepants who kept the
entertainment rolling all day on the stage. Also thank you to our DJ's Mick and Blake for the tunes by the books.
Thanks to all of our Sponsors for your contributions, and all the local businesses who donated to all of our raffles. Please see below list of the sponsors and businesses that donated and please support our local businesses who kindly support us. EXTENDED LEAVE from ATTENDANCE. If you are planning a family holiday during the school term, for more than 5 days, parents need to apply for an ‘Application for Extended Leave’ from school. An ’Application for Extended Leave-Travel’ can be collected from the office. Once completed please return to the Principal at least two weeks prior to the leave then an approved ‘Certificate of Extended leave - Travel’ will be issued. The original certificate will be signed, copied for school records and returned to parents. You need to carry this certificate during your leave, as it must be produced when requested by police or other authorised attendance officers.
VOLUNTEERS AT OUR SCHOOL
Volunteers play an important role in the daily school routine. Please be aware that the Department of Education
requires all volunteers to complete a Volunteer Declaration and provide Proof of Identity that meets the 100-point
check. We are updating our records in accordance with these requirements, ask that anyone who is currently
volunteering, or planning to do so in the future, complete the attached declaration, and return it to the office along
with your 100 points as soon as possible. This not only applies to in-school volunteers but also anyone that at any
stage may be transporting our students to offsite activities. For parents transporting students to offsite activities
please be aware that we still require copies of both your current driver’s licence and current vehicle registration.
This documentation must be provided prior to the activities and is required even if you are transporting your own
child. In accordance with department requirements, the transporting of students is not permitted until all
documentation has been received.
