I will be working for five days a fortnight until the winter vacation period starts. This will include every Monday and Thursday and every second Wednesday (starting this week). I have been keeping in touch with events and happenings at school while away. I have been very impressed by the way in which the Allies school community has responded throughout the Covid-19 enforced changes. The support shown by parents and families has been very positive. While I am sure that many of you are happy to have your kids back learning at school, there are many great stories of success from the home schooling efforts of some families. We now have the great majority of students back at school every day. While it is not ‘school as normal’ yet everyone is working towards getting back into rhythm. Students and teachers alike are working towards success within the situation that we have to complete our daily work. Sport, playtimes, parades and other social type events are not back in place yet but students are having alternatives offered to them. I will be working with all teachers and students to get our behaviour practices back on track so that every student’s health and safety is valued and respected. A few students need to settle back to routines such as bells, timetables, changes of teacher and other procedures. They need to do this while understanding that due to government restrictions and guidelines we cannot provide all the things that they value so much – like interschool sports, free play at breaks and group games or activities. NEW POOL STANDS Work commenced this week to rebuild or refurbish the stands within our swimming pool enclosure. The old timber and steel framing had become very dangerous and unsafe which led me to closing the stands for use during the last two swimming seasons. The work is expected to be completed in about two weeks. REMINDER TO DROP OFF AND PICK UP ONLY It has been great to witness the cooperation of parents and families in regard to dropping off and picking up students from the gates. This is an important part of our commitment to the social distancing requirement of the Covid-19 response. Please help us to continue our excellent Allies response to the situation. The only time that parents or family members should be entering the school is if there is a situation that needs addressing at the office. In that case please call ahead and make sure someone is available to talk with you. Your entry to the school for any business should only be through the Margaret Street gate and then straight to the admin building. Parent contact with teachers should be via either email or telephone. The best email addresses for teachers have been published in several previous newsletters. NEW STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT One of the pieces of work that the school has to complete in 2020 is to write a new Student Code of Conduct. This will replace our existing document called a Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students. Over the next few months we will be working on this new policy and will be looking for some parent feedback as we go. This will be mainly done through the P&C Association meetings (when they get re-started.) Please keep an eye out for information on the progress of this work as it is done. SHOW HOLIDAY DATE CHANGE The Rockhampton Show holiday has been moved from Thursday 11 th June to Friday 14 th August. This means that this Thursday will be a normal school day. I’m sure that we will all enjoy a long weekend in August when hopefully some more restrictions have eased.

9th June 2020 Term 2 Week 8

Principal’s News BACK TO WORK

(At least some of the time) I am happy to advise you that I have returned to work at last.

REMINDER TO DROP OFF AND PICK UP ONLY

It has been great to witness the cooperation of parents and families in regard to dropping off and picking up students from the gates.

NEW STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

One of the pieces of work that the school has to complete in 2020 is to write a new Student Code of Conduct.

This will replace our existing document called a Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students.

Over the next few months we will be working on this new policy and will be looking for some parent feedback as we go. This will be mainly done through the P&C Association meetings (when they get re-started.)

Please keep an eye out for information on the progress of this work as it is done.

SHOW HOLIDAY DATE CHANGE

The Rockhampton Show holiday has been moved from Thursday 11th June to Friday 14th August. This means that this Thursday will be a normal school day. I’m sure that we will all enjoy a long weekend in August when hopefully some more restrictions have eased.

REPORT CARDS FOR

SEMESTER ONE

Due to the additional week of student free days at the end of Term 1 and the 3-5 weeks of home learning at the beginning of Term 2, schools have been asked to modify their reporting process for Semester One. The Department of Education has set guidelines for what we must do and what we may do for reporting. After working with the guidelines and consulting with P and C and our school Local Consultative Committee, we can advise that we will distribute Semester One report cards in week 3 for Term 3. The decision was made to provide time for revision and transition back to school during Term 2. Assessment is being conducted up until the end of this term. Your child’s report will contain a mark for English, Mathematics, Science and Music as these subjects have been taught right throughout the semester during both school and home learning phases. There will be a general comment as well. Prep report cards will have comments but not gradings for subjects.

ENROL NOW PREP 2021 We are now taking enrolments for Prep in 2021. Children entering Prep next year should be born between 1st July 2015 and 30th June 2016. Please call the office to get the enrolment forms for your child. Let your friends, relatives and neighbours know also – a reminder is always helpful. The early enrolment of children helps us to make clear decisions about classes for the new school year. We are already holding enrolment papers for some of our Preppies for 2021. This is very encouraging.

SCHOOL PHOTOS We have been advised by MSP that our date for school photos will be Wednesday 15th July 2020. They have updated the way they work with schools to ensure that they meet hygiene and physical distancing requirements in schools. They will be taking individual photos that they will then use to make a composite class photo. Separate individual photos will also be available. We will let you know when the photo order forms arrive.

HATS ARE NEEDED EVERYDAY

Please make sure that your child has a named hat at school every day. Each year level has an outdoor play area and classes are taking advantage of the cooler fine weather to go outdoors during the day. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clearly named.

UPDATE YOUR EMERGENCY

CONTACTS

It is extremely important that we have accurate up to date contact details including the name and number of at least one other person to contact in case you are unavailable and an emergency arises with your child. Please notify the office of any changes in this matter.

TUCKSHOP

Our P & C have advised that the school tuckshop will

remain closed for the remainder of Term 2.

CAMPS AND EXCURSIONS

With the current restrictions, no camps or excursions can take place at this time. Earlier this year, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Year Five Camp. Our Year Six Camp is proposed for Term Four. A final decision on whether or not this camp will go ahead, has not yet been made. We are waiting to see how the remainder of the term unfolds and what changes may be made to the Department of Education’s operating guidelines before a decision is made. So stay tuned for more information.

IS YOUR CHILD UNWELL?

It is essential that you keep your child home from school if they are unwell. In accordance with Queensland Health Directions parents or carers of any child showing signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school.
