    The World Health organiza on (WHO) hasdeclared 24th of March as the World TuberculosisDay and in response to this, the Interna onalPharmaceu cal Students Federa on (IPSF)would like to invite you to take part in the annual

    TB Awareness Campaign to enlighten few moremen and women against the dreadful disease of tuberculosis.

    WhatsDOTS?

    DOTS or Directly Observed Treatment Short course is the

    interna onally recommended strategy for TB control that hasbeen recognized as a highly e cient and cost-e ec ve strategy.

    DOTS comprises of ve components:

    1. Sustained poli cal and nancial commitment.

    2. Diagnosis by quality ensured sputum-smear microscopy.3. Standardized short-course an -TB treatment (SCC) given

    under direct and suppor ve observa on (DOT).

    4. A regular, uninterrupted supply of high quality an -TB drugs.

    5. Standardized recording and repor ng.

    Since 1995, 41 million people have been successfully treatedand up to 6 million lives saved through DOTS and the Stop TBStrategy

    taken once TBis diagnosed? Given the high u liza on of

    pharmacy services, we may bethe rst and the last people to

    meet the pa ent. We as pharmacystudents and young pharmacistsare in the posi on of being healthcare providers who are in primarycontact with our pa ent. We cancontribute signi cantly to di erenttasks essen al for quality TB care.We can assist in early iden ca on

    of TB suspects and refer them fordiagnosis thereby reducing delaysin diagnosis, saving costs of care

    and increasing case detec on.

    Finally making theearth free from TB.
