Interim Reports Student interim reports will shortly be sent home to all families. These will share
with parents and guardians the progress made by your children throughout Term 1
and are an accurate reflection of student learning. They may also be of assistance
when planning your upcoming Parent/Student/Teacher conferences. Please take the
time to read over them and discuss them with your child.
Student, Parent and Teacher Conferences Student, Parent and Teacher Conferences are being held on Thursday, 16th April
2015 from 4pm to 7pm and Friday, 17th April 2015 from 8:30am to 12:30pm in the
Language Centre. As a school, we feel that it is very important to conduct these
interviews at the start of the term, so students are aware of what they are doing
well and the areas they need to work on, in the coming term. Often this advice and
support is forgotten, if given at the end of the term.
Booking information is in the School Organiser, for families to indicate the times
they are available to attend the interviews. Please indicate your availability and have
your young person show this to their teachers, who will then assign an appointment
time. It is very important that parents and students attend these interviews together
to ensure that everyone is aware of the educational progress being made, so please
take the time to make an interview with your child’s teachers during the next few
weeks.
Grade 6 Information Evening A very successful information night was held on Monday evening that saw many
prospective students and their parents from local primary schools come and find out
what Newcomb Secondary College is all about. The evening commenced with tours
that showcased the depth and breadth of educational programs on offer to our
students. An information session that included presentations from student, parent
and teacher perspectives was well attended in the library. Many parents commented
on the variety of high quality educational opportunities on offer, the well presented
facilities and the helpfulness and friendliness of staff and students.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and students who participated in
the evening, including our five student speakers. The information evening is a core
event in our transition to secondary program and we look forward to working with
all our incoming new students later in the year.
Family Accounts The Family Accounts are being sent out. Prompt payment would be appreciated by
the end of term please.

Year 9 Geelong Tertiary Futures Program Friday, 20th March saw 45 Year 9 students attend their first day of the Geelong Tertiary Futures Program. Students were met by
Gordon staff and placed into their theory groups, which will remain for the entirety of the program. During the morning
session students filled out enrolment forms and received their Gordon ID card, which is to be kept on their person at all times
whilst on either of the Gordon campuses. After lunch all students participated in a Race Around The Gordon, which saw small
groups racing around the campus answering questions, whilst also building familiarity.
The first practical preview courses will take place on Friday, 24th April (term 2, week 2). All students need to be aware of the
safety clothing required for their chosen preview course.

73 BLITZ TATE STREET WITH ACTING AND DANCE
Last Thursday, 19th March a chorus of Prep
and Grade Ones of Tate Street Primary school
leapt at their feet, at the end of 73’s show,
declaring that they had loved 73’s
performances. Their co-ordinating teacher Mrs
Couch sent an email the next day exclaiming
“some kids said it was the best day ever”!
Group 73 Drama performed for the Prep to
Grade Ones at Tate Street Primary School as
part of their Drama studies. They produced a
concert of entertaining group shows for the
young students (even with some technical
hitches) which were thoroughly enjoyed. Some
Group 73 students even struck up ‘friendships’
with some of the younger students. Group 73
‘nailed their group shows’ through using characters both human and
animal, several with twists on familiar fairy-tales (that the primary
students had been studying).
73, from pairs to groups of seven, used acting, poetry, music, dance,
accopella singing, character voices, smart, intelligent, creative
scripting, slapstick comedy, audience participation and more, to
really enhance and entrance their young audience. The audience was
wonderfully behaved and were spellbound by the shows on stage.
Each student contributed to their original, group scripts and several
‘twisted’ fairy-tales as a basis of their performances. One group,
instead of the three little pigs and the wolf, had the three llamas and
the elephant – long trunk and all which swayed amusingly on stage.
Several had morals. Another show was from a young persons’
perspective, going to bed ‘early’ before it was dark – the show
explaining about ‘daylight saving’ and the need for ‘good’ sleep so you
can function at school – all - scripted as a rhyming poem. The boys
show based on the “Tortoise and Hare” story, with some excellent
animal action and voices, showed how competition can lead to
comradeship and mutual respect. There was a marriage and love
story which included accopella singing and dancing. The antics of
Goldilocks and the two bears was also performed.
73 Primary school performance tour now goes to Newcomb Park
with East Geelong (hopefully next term). Also in term 2 they will go
to see some professional acting at the Victorian Arts Centre,
experiencing a theatre production of Andy Griffith’s “26 Storey
Treehouse” and go to the amazing ACMI at “Fed. Square” in
Melbourne.
Mr Paul Kellett, very proud, NSC Drama teacher (GREAT work 73!)
