First Aid There will be first aid equipment available on the day. Please take it easy if you are feeling unwell. And remember we only calculate 5 of the 7 times so you will not be penalized if you truly cannot make it. If you see a fellow participant in distress on the track please don’t hesitate to call us an ambulance on 000 and you can also reach the ‘Life. be in it’ office on 8362 2150. Toilets/Amenities Toilets/changerooms are available at each of the start/finish lines. Do not leave valuables in the changerooms – keys, bags etc can be left with the recorder. Showers are not guaranteed on site unfortunately. Good Luck! We hope you achieve your goals for this week and If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email [email protected], phone the ‘Life. Active Community Team Challenge 2013Newsletter 6

The ChallengeBe ready to have some fun! Dragon Boat racing is fierce, fast and furious, and maybe just a little addictive! After learning the ropes company teams will go head to head down the river with the ultimate aim of seeing how fast your team can go!

The challenge will run over 5 weeks and each week teams will receive expert tuition from DragonBoat SA. Hitting the water from week 1 there will be plenty of time to put into practice what has been taught and get your team fighting fit, pumped and raring to go for a grand finale in week 5. DragonBoat SA will supply all equip-ment so you just need to come dressed in sporting gear, wearing sneakers and a hat, and maybe some company team colours! There are toilets and changing facilities at the boatshed, but please note no shower facilities. Remember whilst you will physically be racing the other teams it is all about your teams personal best as ultimately you are racing the clock! Closing Date for EntriesThursday 28th February at 5pm.

Where and When Scotch College Boat Shed (in front of the Adelaide Convention Centre) every Tuesday from 5th March for 5 weeks, with final presentations to follow on 9th April.

Timeslots will be allocated from 11.30am as noted on the entry form over. There will be 3 boats available at each timeslot and allocations will be made on best prefer-ence on a first in basis. Each session will run for 40 minutes.

Team EntriesEach Dragon Boat will be made up of 12 paddlers (team members), and 2 Drag-onBoat SA instructors. Companies have the option of entering a half boat team or a full boat team. Where entering a half boat team companies will be paired with another. If you prefer organize your own company pairing then submit one entry covering both.

CostHalf Boat $120 – 6 team members plus 2 reserves. Full Boat $240 – 12 team members plus 2 reserves.

Event categoriesCorporate Cup – 4.75km (City) / 4.5km (Regions)This is the major category of the event and determines the overall winning team. All team members must enter to run or walk this distance for the team to qualify.

Mini Cup – 2.2km (City) / 2.25km (Regions)Where all team members enter and participate in the 2.2km or 2.25km distance they will qualify for the Mini Cup award.

Mixed Distance Cup Where team members enter and participate in a variety of distances the team qualifies for the Mixed Distance Cup.

Mega Cup – 8.15km (City Only)Where all team members enter and participate in the 8.15km (City only) distance they will qualify for the Mega Cup award.

Winning teams are the most improved so you do not have to be the fastest team to qualify for these trophies. The first run/walk determines your handicap time, you then gain points for improvements in your time each fortnight over the next six runs/walks. The aim is to train in the off weeks so you can improve your times. Other AwardsFastest Runners, Fastest Team Categories, Most Improved Manager, Similar Company Categories (city only), Veterans Categories, Best Private/Government Teams.

What is the be active Corporate Cup? The be active Corporate Cup is Adelaide’s largest ‘must do’ corporate event! A team event run once a fortnight over 16 weeks to improve personal fitness and well-being. Teams of up to seven runners and/or walkers can participate in one of four great locations across Adelaide.

The be active Corporate Cup caters for everyone with a choice of distances and is an event where each team member earns points. Participants will receive points based on ‘consistent’ improvement in times and for regular participation. TeamsTeams consist of five to seven members. Teams of less may enter but will not qualify for prizes in the team categories. Teams can be formed from private companies, government departments, community organisations, sporting clubs, fitness groups and schools. Individuals may also enter and will be given a team number of their own in order to receive personal results. Entry$210 per team entry (a team consists of up to seven members) $50 for an individual entry.$105 for a school team entry.

The ChallengesYou will play 3 of the 6 games each week in a tabloid style. You do not have to know how to play the games as all instructions will be given beforehand. Games include:

There will be overall, individual challenge and timeslot winners along with the highest overall placed female team! WhenThursdays commencing 28th February and every Thursday thereafter, for 6 weeks. Presentations in week 7.

TimeYour team will be allocated a 30 minute time slot between 11.30am and 2pm. You will play at this same time each week. Please choose your preferred times & location on the entry form. Preferences will be allocated in order of receipt.

TeamsTeams consist of four members with two reserves allowed per team. Up to 12 teams are assigned to each time slot. Your team will play other teams throughout the challenge.
