PIPPS SUCCESS

Congratulations! There was

some excellent news from Pipps

last term.

Pipps stands for Pupils in

Positive Playgrounds. It is a

programme that looks to reward

students who show positive

behaviours and virtues and also

has consequences for students

who break the rules we have to

promote our school community

as a safe and happy place.

So, congratulations to the 608

children who had a “100%

Consequence Free” Term 2.

This included 15 whole classes

which was also great news.

FAMILY CONFERENCES

THANKS EVERYONE

Thanks to the hundreds of

families that supported their

children’s learning by coming

along to Family Conferences

last week. Thanks also to our

teaching staff who gave their

time preparing for conferences

and meeting with families and

whanau.

UNIFORMS ARE US

LET’S KEEP THEM WARM

Children are expected to wear

only Hill uniform clothing while

at school.

There is a small supply of

second hand clothing for sale at

the office.

A reminder that the Warehouse

is now the supplier of the Hill

uniform. Skorts for girls are sold

at the office.

If families have difficulty

getting clothing from the

Warehouse, please contact our

Executive Officer Vicky at

school who will follow this up

for you.

ICT STARS AT HILL

Congratulations to the 7

students who sat the Computer

Skills competition run by the

New South Wales University

across Australasia.

Competing with thousands of

students, Luke Davies, Courtney

Perrett, and Kyle Davies were

awarded top 25% certificates

and Dezarn Rogers-Bin Farouk

gained a top 10% Distinction

award. Not only that, but Jeffery

Tolmie won the top 1% High

Distinction award which was an

outstanding result.

PARENT ROAD PATROL

SUPERVISOR NEEDED

Can you be a Road Patrol hero?

A parent road patrol supervisor

is urgently needed to help our

Ward St student patrollers on

Thursday mornings.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE

TOMORROW

Yum! Tomorrow, on Thursday,

the PTA holds another popular

lunchtime sausage sizzle. Drinks

and sausages $1.00 each. It’s

helpful if children bring their

money in a named envelope

with the order written on the

outside.

A reminder that the Lunchbox

is closed on sizzle days.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

LEST WE FORGET

On Monday, 4 August we had a

significant assembly at the

school flagpole. We

remembered that this day, 100

years ago in 1914, was the date

when New Zealand, declared

war against Germany which

marked our entry into World

War 1. A number of our

Ambassador students presented

some of this history that shaped

our nation including that out of

our population of just one

million, over 10 000 were killed

and 40 000 wounded between

1914-1918. We lowered the flag

to half mast as a sign of respect

and observed a minute of

silence in memory of all those

who served their country.

BAGPIPING CULTURE

Thanks to piper Sean Graham

who brought both the sound of

Scottish culture and the

Commonwealth Games to

school yesterday.

MUFTI DAY NEXT WEEK

An early notice that next week

on Friday 15 August, children

can leave their uniforms at

home as we have a Mufti day.

The dress up theme is “This is

who I am” which fits well with

our inquiry learning Culture

concept.

Children are asked to bring a

gold coin donation which will

be given to St Johns Ambulance

Pukekohe.

POLICY REVIEW UPDATE

The Board of Trustees has

completed a review of its

Administration policies and

these are available for viewing

at the school office.

Over the next 2 terms we will be

reviewing all of our 19 Health

and Safety policies. If you

would like to contribute to this

review, please contact Graeme

at school or [email protected]

INVESTING FOR

SUCCESS?

This government policy in

education has attracted both

support and considerable

criticism. Your Board of

Trustees has agreed with some

of the concerns expressed by

teacher groups around the

practical difficulties of

implementing this policy.

Parents are welcome to read

through a range of information

on this IES policy held at the

office.

THANKS VTNZ

PUKEKOHE

Thanks to VTNZ Pukekohe for

a generous donation. When you

need a warrant of fitness and

call in to VTNZ, just nominate

Pukekohe Hill School and they

will donate $5 to school.
