By late July and early August some lay people (youth and adults) are coming to Africa, especially to our institutions in Lunsar, Kissy, Bula and Bissau. To all of them our warm welcome with the hope of a fruitful experience.

We do not send many containers to Africa as before; we prefer to provide everything here. Occasionally, however, we still have some ship, for some special materials bought or offered from benefactors. Many thanks to Fr Siro Lazzari, Fr Franco Pedussia and other friends! In the picture: Br Beppe, with a generous group of helpers “bergamaschi e pinerolesi”, is ready to close a full packed container leaving for Guinea, after almost 18 months since the last one!

*** THE THANKS’ CORNER *** In 1995 Oreste Germano Miani, with the help of 3 friends, founded the association "Amici di Padre Pini" in Modena (Italy) with the aim to support the activities carried out in Sierra Leone since our confrere Father Julian is coming from that city. The Association is now supported by around 3300 donors residents throughout Italy, mainly in the central and northern regions, especially in Emilia Romagna with a strong presence in Modena and its province. In these 16 years of life the Associa-tion has worked with enthusiasm and has created awareness and information on the situation in Si-erra Leone, especially in the schools of all levels; the presence of a solidarity exhibit in fairs and an-tique markets, actions by mass-media promotion to industrial, commercial and public bodies; send-ing materials and equipment to Africa, humanitar-ian assistance (financial aid, sending medicines, distance support of children, ...). From the col-umns of our newsletter a huge "thank you" to all the friends of the Association and especially to Mr., Miani (right in photo), a tireless and gener-ous promoter of the association.
