“LOOK UP! AND LOOK OUT!” Pastor Rich Webb

We live in a society that, increasingly, emphasizes self. Advertising is designed to hammer

three basic messages; you deserve this, you’ve earned this and you’re worth it. This message

has been delivered with mind-numbing effectiveness. People don’t even question it any-

more. How do I know this? The evidence is all around us. Personal bankruptcies are up. Per-

sonal savings amounts are down. Men are absent from the families in epidemic numbers. In a

nutshell, people are looking in and looking down.

Contrast this egocentric mindset with the fundamental message of Faith, “I lift up my eyes to

the hills-- where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of

heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not

slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The

Lord watches over you-- the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not

harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm-- he

will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now

and forevermore.” (Psalm 121) So God calls us to look up. But God is not satisfied with his

creation only looking up.

God has also called us to look out. Jesus tells us to look out into the world, share the gospel and

make disciples. James tells us to look out for widows and orphans. Paul tells us to look out and

be ready to give a reason for the hope that we have within us. Paul also tells to look out for

false prophets. So, look up and look out is more than just a good idea, it’s God’s idea.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU Linnay and Brianna Costello

Linnay Costello is the new director of our Children’s min-

istries, but this is not the first time she has been involved

in activities here at Church Of The New Covenant. She

has actually been a member of this church since she was a

teenager, was the director of Children’s ministry in the

1990’s, has sang on the worship team, helped lead the

prayer team, and even helped plan the 35th Anniversary

Celebration last year!

Linnay lives in Beardstown and works for the Beardstown School District where she is a Guid-

ance Counselor in the Middle School/High School. Recently, she received a Masters Degree in

Human Services with an emphasis in school counseling from Capella University. She has spent

the last 2.5 years working on this degree while working full-time.

Linnay’s daughter, Brianna, is 12 years old and attends school in Beardstown. She loves to sing,

dance, and spend time with her friends, and her Grandpa and Grandma.

We are so excited that Linnay is providing leadership to our ministry to children. She has a lot

of exciting ideas, not only for Kids’ Church but also for Vacation Bible School this summer. She

is looking to build an exciting team of volunteers who will work together to provide the best pos-

sible environment for children to learn about their faith in a fun and innovative environment.

If you would like to be a part of this team, please contact Linnay or the church office.

Understanding and choosing between

“Menopause Madness” and “Meaningful Maturity”

Are you approaching or past the age of 35 and experiencing perplexing physical

changes? Insomnia? Forgetfulness? Hot flashes?

Are you noticing any unexplained emotional swings? Irritability or depression? Anx-

iety and unfounded fears? Absence of joy?

Are you struggling spiritually, experiencing a wilderness or the silence of God?

Are you further perplexed because you feel too young for this to be happening?

“The Pause” is a seminar addressing these physical, emotional and spiritual dimen-

sions of the female midlife transition from a Biblical perspective. From it you will gain

insight into the complexity of peri-menopause and menopause, and be encouraged by

God’s promises of continued beauty, purpose and fulfillment.

“…You will be like a well watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”
