Details of the 2010 income and expenditure for the OLSH Parents and Friends Association were tabled at last week s P&F meeting. The total income was $99,616.55, with most of the money coming mainly from the Fete, the Walkathon, the Dollar for Dollar scheme, and the Fete Raffle. The expenditures included lots of equipment for each campus, extensive shading at Bath Street, and a donation towards the College hall; these outlays amounted to $97,668.46. Congratulations and thank you to the Association for this amazing result. The 2011 P& F Executive has now been finalised and we are grateful to the following parents for taking on these roles; Mr Sam Typuszak (President), Mrs Bec Scollen (Vice-President), Mrs Alice de Brenni (Secretary), Mrs Bronwyn Williams (Treasurer) and Mrs Annette Kemp (Board Representative). The first fundraising activity for the Association for 2011 will be the annual Walkathon, coinciding with next month s Founders Day picnic. Thank you to the parents and staff members who assisted with our students involvement in last Monday s Bangtail Muster . People obviously went to a lot of trouble preparing the costumes and decorations for the Eight Hour theme, and our youngsters thoroughly enjoyed their ride through the Mall. Thank you to Mr Sam Typuszak and Mrs Belinda McClure for coordinating the arrangements. Our Senior Music group headed off to the Mount Gambier Generations in Jazz Festival last Tuesday, accompanied by Ms Nikki Quesnell and Mr. Patrick Johnson. The students have been practising for several months on a number of pieces, and we wish them well in their public performances. This year, musicians from both OLSH College and St Philip s College will combine in a single band, as representatives of Alice Springs for this special event. Thank you to those folks who came along to support the fundraiser that was held for these students on last Thursday evening at the St Philip s hall. Tomorrow morning, commencing at 11 o clock, the College hall, known as The Marian Centre will be officially opened by local Federal Member, Mr.Warren Snowdon MHR. Our College Captains, Dean Ryan and Rebecca Crack will be the MC s for the event, and choirs from Bath Street and Traeger will provide the entertainment. The building and a new statue will be blessed during the ceremony. The students will be represented by the College and Campus Leaders (Captains, Vice-Captains, House leaders and SRC members). The statue, demonstrating the relationship of staff with students, has been funded by the Catholic Education Office, and the College s Parents and Friends Association, and is the work of Victorian Sculptor, Geoff Todd. Reflection

The new facility has been a huge project for the College. Right from the early days in 2009 when former College Business Manager, Mr. Jason O Keife, worked with staff and the architect, Mr Steve Adler, to collect ideas for the basic design, through to the financial planning (Bursar, Mrs Janice Merrett, Chair of the Finance Committee, Mr Pat Black and members of the Committee), and the final stages of the civil works and the fitting out the hall, under the supervision of College Property Manager, Mr. Ian Clarke, there have been many valuable contributors. It should prove to be a wonderful asset for our school community, and one that we can share with other groups. You are very welcome to attend the Opening ceremony and to look over the Centre.

Best wishes

Br Paul Gilchrist Principal

M - O - T - H - E - R

"M" is for the million things she gave me,

"O" means only that she's growing old,

"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,

"H" is for her heart of purest gold;

"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,

"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell

"MOTHER,"

A word that means the world to me.

Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

And Grandma's too... While we honour all our mothers

with words of love and praise.

While we tell about their goodness

and their kind and loving ways.

We should also think of Grandma,

she's a mother too, you see....

For she mothered my dear mother

as my mother mothers me.

CASUAL CLOTHES DAYS We seem to be doing very well with the casual clothes chosen; however I need to make clear the footwear permitted so that we are fair to all. Basically, due to the OH&S conditions that involve students of the College (and all other schools) all students MUST wear closed in shoes at all times. This means that no thongs or sandals can be worn on casual clothes days or footwear that exposes the heel of the foot. I thank the parents who have delivered the required footwear to school so far. From now we will be consistent in this area. Students with inappropriate footwear (any day)will be asked to contact home to have the correct shoes delivered.
