KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together” NEWSLETTER 38 - 2019 Thursday 12 th December, 2019 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Tonight is the Foundation and Year 1/2 Christmas concert. We are pleased that the weather is looking to be good. Thankfully, it is not the temperature expected for next Tuesday’s Year 6 graduation. We know that all people who attend the concert will love seeing their child, grandchild, niece, nephew sing their songs and perform. The concert commences at 6.30pm on the basketball court. If attending you will notice the new relocatable behind the stage area, on the Western perimeter fence bordering Kurunjang Secondary College. This arrived last Saturday and a number of you told me you had seen the trucks coming into Melton, coming along Centenary Avenue etc and had guessed that they were the ones we were expecting. This relocatable is literally the newest in the state as it had come straight from the factory without having been stored. Population wise we are increasing by 2 classes in 2020 - one more Foundation class and one more Year 5/6 class. The new relocatable will be used for Year 5/6s. Over the next couple of weeks the fitting out of the relocatable and the services connection/infrastructure etc will occur. Please enjoy some of the photos below. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Tomorrow afternoons assembly will be our last ‘regular’ assembly for the year. In our fortnightly rotation it will be for the Year 3-6 students. On the last day of the school year (Friday 20 th Dec) we will be holding a whole school assembly. This will be at 12.45pm on the turf (adjacent to the school oval) before the dismissal of the students at 1.10pm. (Please note that this is later than what has been advertised in the previous calendar events). In the event that the weather is inclement/extreme we will hold the assembly in the gym or classrooms, however outside is preferable so that all parents who would like to, can attend. Yesterday the staff invited all parents and friends of the school who volunteer their time in any capacity to the school, to attend a morning tea provided by the staff. We cannot emphasise enough, the valuable contribution that volunteers make to the productivity of the school and to the learning of our students through such things as serving on school council, hearing children read in the classroom or assisting with small group tasks and class events. The volunteers on the Parents and Friends Association spend many hours in preparing for and conducting whole school activities including Mothers and Fathers day stalls, hot dog days and the school fete. The number of hours that this equates to both individually and collectively is enormous. We really appreciate and thank all parents who have made themselves available to volunteer their time and effort for supporting our students and school. We invite any parent/helper who would like to help in any way next year, to inform next year’s class teacher, Wendy McCall or me. We would love to have you at school. As per our other newsletter calendar events, Step Up day will occur next week on Wednesday 18 th December when all current students F-5 will have the opportunity to meet with their 2020 class and teacher. (The current Year 6s and the 2020 Foundation students had their statewide orientation day on Tuesday.) Recruitment of staff has been undertaken in the last few weeks and currently 4 new teaching staff have been appointed to Kurunjang Primary School in a fixed term capacity to replace existing staff working part time or on leave during 2020. A leading teacher for literacy, a youth worker and a Kitchen/Garden ES have also been appointed. I will include in next week’s newsletter the names of all staff for 2020.
