MAORI SCHOOL REUNION
Tino pai! At Labour Weekend
over 150 past tamariki and their
teachers gathered at Nga Hau e
Wha marae for a reunion of the
Pukekohe Maori School which
was based at our Hill School site
from 1952 to 1964.
On Saturday, our kapa haka
group supported by whanau and
staff welcomed those involved
with a whakatau at Hill, and
there was the presentation of a
plaque, and korowai and the
planting of a kohekohe tree near
the garden area outside Rm 28.
Haere mai! Haere mai koutou!
A time when many memories
were shared and friendships
renewed. Special thanks to our
staff, Jade Chamberlain, Sylvia
Patu, Hutana Maxwell and Val
Mave, and to those who helped
arrange food.
PTA DISCO TOMORROW
Make it a date.
The PTA are running another
popular disco at the school hall,
tomorrow on Thursday 30
October.
Theme: Your most colourful
clothes. Juniors: Year 1-3
Children From 5.45 to 6.45pm
Seniors: Year 4-6
Students
From 7.00 to 8.00pm
Entry is $5 and
includes a drink.
Lolly bags, chips,
drinks and glow
sticks all $1.00 each
PTA CARBOOT
SALE ON
SATURDAY 8 NOVEMBER
Make it a date. The PTA is
holding a car boot sale at the
Indian Hall grounds opposite the
school, on Saturday 8
November from 8am -12 noon.

Families are now asked to
send donations of items for
grocery raffles to their
children’s classes
Thanks to our PTA for this
fundraiser to support Hill
students and programmes.
ROAD PATROL
SUPERVISORS NEEDED
Can you be a Road Patrol hero
from 2.50 to 3.15pm?
This term we need adult
supervisors on Tuesday
mornings and Wednesday and
Thursday afternoons.

BAYLEY’S STUDENT OF
THE MONTH
Congratulations! Bayley’s Real
Estate have joined us at Hill to
provide a Student of the Month
Award.
At last
week’s
assembly,
Room 25
student
Hannah
Wilson
was
presented with the student of the
month certificate and Paper Plus
voucher.
Hannah’s award was for being a
conscientious and organised
student, as well as an adaptable
and pro-active ICT club
member.
TENNIS STAR AT HILL
Congratulations to senior
student Sarah Carpenter. Sarah
and 3 other Hill students
represented the school at the
Franklin Tennis championship
and she was placed second.
Well done!

Thanks from the PTA and
school to Kids After School
who have purchased a new BBQ
for Hill and thanks to Mitre 10
who gave a generous discount.
HATS ARE US IN TERM 4
Hopefully, summer is on the
way, so a reminder that Term 4
is the start of our “no hat, no
play” Sunsense policy.
All students need a school
uniform sunhat which is
available from the school office.
New stock has arrived and the
price is now $15.00. Please
remember to clearly name those
hats!
PROJECT ENERGISE
Project Energise staff work with
our students on promoting
fitness, physical activity and
healthy nutrition.
This term we feature some
healthy food ideas from Project
Energise.
Easy Low Cost Recipe
Go Mad With Mince 1. Dice 1 onion and a clove of garlic
2. Add 500g of lean mince
3. Add 2 cups of frozen, diced or
grated vegetables.
4. Finally add 2 tins of diced tomatoes
5. Simmer and add 2tsp of herbs
Serving Tip: Shepherds Pie or
Spaghetti Bolognaise

STAR BOY AND WEIRD
WABBIT BOOKS ON SALE
Last term as part of Book Week
we welcomed 2014 NZ Post
winning author and illustrator
Vasanti Unka, who was a Hill
student. Vasanti spoke to
children on her creative career
and her acclaimed “The Boring
Book”.
We have copies of two of her
other books, Star Boy and
Weird Wabbit, for sale at school
for just $10, with $5 from each
sale going to Hill.
Order at the office.
COMMUNITY NEWS
Healthy Workshop at Hill:
Interested? On Thursday 6
November, from 7-8.30pm in
the school staffroom, Sarah
Armstrong, a craniosacral
therapy practitioner is running a
free workshop that will give
advice and answer questions on
some of the causes of allergies,
food intolerances and how these
can influence symptoms like
asthma, eczema, bed wetting,
tantrums, and sleeping issues.
Sarah has advice on how to
reduce these symptoms for
healthier and happier children.
Piano/Keyboard Tutor at Hill:
Tutor Joanne Allan takes
children at Hill during school
time for piano and keyboard
lessons. There’s also an
opportunity to take part in
exams and competitions.
