Friday 28th June 2013 Prayer Help me, Lord, to discover the talents I have been given and to not let them lie unused. May I make the best use of them both for my- self and for others. May sport help to bring out the best in people, teaching us the lessons of commitment and co-operation, of fairness and appreciation. May sports and hobbies and interests help me to develop my personality that I may be renewed and re-created in your image and likeness. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Parents as Parents: HAIRSTYLES

As a Business and Enterprise College we en-courage our students to dress in a business like fashion - "Dress for Success". For this reason extremes of hairstyles and hair colouring are not acceptable. If in doubt about what styles and colours are not acceptable speak to your child's Year Learning Leader.

Enterprise Success Jacob Cotterill, Year 12 Business student, has spent this week on a work placement with Mrs Lynch in the BITE Faculty. During the week he assisted in making an application to seek funding from the Community Investment Grant offered by Peaks and Plains Housing Trust. If successful it will allow for the expansion of The Go Shop brand giving students across The College opportunity to manage four market stalls alongside ‘Go Shop’in The Pod. This will ultimately constitute a further development of social enterprise in The College and a continued demonstration of the inspiring entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills of our students both in leading on projects and in making their visions a reality.

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining - Deep Values Learning for Year 7

The North West teachers strike day was put to great use for Year 7 who enjoyed a special day of reflection on the college values with Mr Billings (Principal) and Mrs Connor (Deputy Principal), who were expertly assisted by the college teaching assistants, cover supervisors and the Chaplin (Rev Harrison). The day began with a Year Mass celebrated with Fr Francis (Parish Priest at St Gregory's, Bollington) who used the story of the Centurian's Servant to illustrate how life changing belief in Jesus can be - and to say how we are all loved by God. The students singing was fantastic during Mass and was followed by some community gospel singing led by Mr Gordan. Mrs Connor's brain gym activity was great fun and will be very memorable - parents should ask sons/daughters about the 'Hippo'. Free school meals - do you qualify? Around 1.8 million UK children are entitled to free school meals but more than 330,000 pupils don't get their entitlement. For some children, the social stigma or even teasing attached to 'being on free dinners' puts them off. Often parents don't realise they're entitled or are discouraged by the likely bureaucracy. Does it matter? YES! CHILDREN WHO EAT WELL DURING THE DAY CONCENTRATE BETTER IN LESSONS. SITTING DOWN TO A MEAL TOGETHER IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF CHILDREN'S SOCIAL EDUCATION. ALSO, ONE CHILD IN FOUR DOESN'T GET A HOT DINNER IN THE EVENING. Who qualifies? IN ENGLAND, 21% OF PUPILS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE SCHOOL MEALS. PARENTS OR GUARDIANS IN ENGLAND DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR SCHOOL MEALS IF THEY RECEIVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: Income Support Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance An income - related employment and support allowance (this benefit was introduced 27 October 2008) The guarantee element of State Pension Credit Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Children who receive Income Support or Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance in their own right are also eligible to receive free school meals Child Tax Credit (but are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and from 6 April 2012 your annual income does not exceed £16,190. (as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) Working Tax Credit Run On the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit From 6 April 2012, Working Tax Credit rules for couples have changed and because of the increase in the number of hours a couple has to work in order to qualify, some families may have lost their entitlement to Working Tax Credit. Those families may be entitled to free school meals if they now satisfy any of the above criteria. However, as soon as you stop claiming any of the qualifying benefits listed above, your entitlement to claim free school meals also ends.
