A large canopy was placed into position by crane recently and the roofing is currently being installed. TERM 4 EVENTS AND PROGRAMS We are approaching the halfway mark of a very busy Term 4 with many big events already having taken place including the Grade 3-4 Ballarat Trip, the Year 10 Advance Camp and next week, the Grade 5-6 Lake Cullulleraine Camp. These are events that our students really enjoy and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the considerable amount of work staff have put in to plan and conduct these activities. Programs to support children/students through the main transition stages are also major tasks in Term 4. (Kinder to Prep, Year 6 to 7 and Year 10 to Senior College). Staff planning for the 2018 school year is also well-advanced. STUDENT OF THE MONTH ASSEMBLY – G. Rhodes Tomorrow, 10th November we will be conducting a whole school assembly between 10.12am and 11.05am to celebrate the many successes our students have achieved over the past few weeks. We will also present the Student of the Month Awards. A short Remembrance Day reflection will take place during this assembly and the whole school will stop for a minutes silence.

CANTEEN PRICE INCREASE Due to an increase in prices from the suppliers, all our ice cream prices have increased by 20 cents and our icy poles are now 50 cents each.

MERBEIN P-10 SCHOOL MAGAZINE 2017 The collation of the Annual Whole School Magazine for 2017 is underway. Families can purchase a magazine for $15. Orders and payment can be made at the main office.

PLAY GROUP - TOTAL LEARNING CENTRE (TLC) This playgroup is free of cost and is for children aged 0-5. Children and their carers share books, make fun stuff, play, dance and sing. Parents can receive information and support, share a cuppa, and get to know other families. We have two new facilitators this term, April and Natalie. Most weeks this term playgroup will be held at Merbein P10 College from 9.30-11am. A term program is below, please check for changes to the time and venue. BREAKFAST PROGRAM The Merbein & District Community Bank & Merbein Development Association are financially supporting the Breakfast Program. Foodbank Victoria also supports the breakfast program with donations of food. The following organisations also provide volunteers to assist with the program; Merbein P10 College Parents’ Club, the Board & Staff of the Merbein & District Community Bank, Merbein Development Association, Merbein Lions Club, Merbein Uniting Church and Merbein Rotary. If you are able to volunteer to help in the Breakfast Program, please contact Haley at the Merbein & District Community Bank. The Breakfast Program is held in the school cafeteria. All students are welcome to come along between 8.00am and 8.45am each morning if they would like a FREE tasty breakfast to kick-start their days learning.

ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY IN SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - 2018 We are offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise in our weekly newsletter commencing in 2018. Our newsletter goes out to over 400 families as well as a number of community organisations. We have 10 business card size advertising spaces available on the back page and the cost is $200.00 for the year. PRIMARY NEWS

GRADE P-2 MERBEIN CUP RACE RESULT – B. Hall On Monday 6th November, students had the opportunity to race their home group horses on the oval at recess time where the students could cheer on their class horse. Well done to our jockeys and horses. Congratulations to Miss P's class on coming 1st place.

T20 BLAST CRICKET – D. Lord Sixteen Grade 5-6 cricketers had a 'ball' participating in the T20 Blast Cricket Competition at the Aerodrome Ovals yesterday. The Girls' and Boys' Teams played some great cricket with the highlight of the day being some convincing final round victories over Irymple South Primary School and Our Ladies Primary School respectively. Unfortunately, neither team will progress to the next round but the students enjoyed themselves and represented the school well with great sportsmanship shown by both teams.

LAKE CULLULLERAINE CAMP - W. Finn The Grade 5-6 students will be on camp at Lake Cullulleraine all next week.

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY – W. Finn Grandparents Day was held last Thursday. It was a wonderful success, we loved sharing our learning with our special visitors. The feedback was amazing and positive. It is also wonderful to welcome our special guests from Chaffey Aged Care.

NO HAT – NO PLAY – W. Finn The School Sun Smart Policy states that students must wear a broad brimmed hat for all outdoor activities at school in Term 1 & 4. Please note that caps are not permitted.

WATER DRINK BOTTLE – W. Finn All students are asked to bring a water bottle to school every day. Please check that it is clearly named and contains water only.

ANNUAL WALK TO SCHOOL PROGRAM REPORT – W. Finn The Annual October Walk to School Program has now officially ended. Thanks to all our students who walked to school last month to get fitter, healthier and support the program. 128 students from our school participated with a total of 1688 walks – that’s a lot of steps. Well done! Those students will receive certificates for their achievements. Merbein P-10 College has now entered into a competition against other district schools. The winners will be announced mid-November.

FUN RUN – B. Holy Two weeks to go until our school holds the CUA School Fun-Run Activity Day on Tuesday, 21st November. Hopefully students have been using their student profile pages at www.schoolfunrun.com.au to get the most out of the fundraiser. Please ensure the money you have raised has been given to Mrs Collihole in the Green Building Office by Tuesday 21st November. We would love families to come along on the day to cheer the kids on and create a great day for the community. If you have any fundraising questions, please contact the CUA School Fun-Run team on 1300 733 788 and they will gladly assist!

PREP PRACTICE – W. Finn We look forward to seeing our new 2018 preps on the three Prep Practice Days remaining. The dates are as follows, 29th November and 6th & 12th December. Please send along some fruit/vegetable snacks for brain-food, a hat, a water bottle, recess and lunch with your child on these days.

MERBEIN ROTARY COMMUNITY CAROLS NIGHT Merbein P-10 will be performing at the Merbein Rotary Community Carols Night on Friday 8th December. Students have begun practicing their items.

SWIMMING PROGRAM – B. Holy Grade P-2 students are enjoying their swimming lessons this week. They have made huge improvements already. Photos below. The Grade 2-4 will start their week of swimming lessons on Monday 13th November. Remember to send thongs or shoes to walk to the pool from the bus and back each day. Students also get very hungry when swimming so please pack some extra food.

MERBEIN COMMUNITY BANK SCHOOL STUDENT BANKING PROGRAM If you wish your child to participate in this program, please send your child’s bankbook along to the Green Building Office every Thursday morning. The Bank will collect and process your child’s banking and then drop the bank book back to school before the end of the school day.

SECONDARY NEWS

END OF YEAR – G. Rhodes The school year officially finishes on Friday, 22nd December for all our students in P-9. For the period leading up to 20th December, students will be expected to work hard in class, to complete work for submission and assessment. From 20th – 22nd December there will be a modified program for the secondary students. This program is based on teamwork, Christmas and reinforcing key messages around being sun-smart. Year 10 students will finish earlier than the rest of the school. The Year 10 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday 8th December. They will then complete their year by spending the following week at the Senior College where they will participate in a ‘Smart Start’ Program designed to prepare them for their Year 11 studies.

BOOKLISTS – G. Rhodes All current families from year prep to 9 will be given booklist information for 2018. This will be distributed next week.

2018 NOMINATIONS - FReeZA YOUTH COMMITTEE Mildura Rural City Council FReeZA Program is part of the Victorian State Government funded FReeZA initiative that gives young people the opportunity to lead the planning and staging of live music and cultural events in our community. This position is for a committee member in a voluntary capacity. Nominees must be between 16 – 25 years of age and be involved in the program as an active participant until November 2018. Mildura Rural City Council Youth Services must receive entries by 5.00pm on Friday 1 December 2017. VICSWIM - SUMMER KIDZ PROGRAM With the outdoor pool season upon us, Mildura Rural City Council has once again teamed up with VICSWIM to offer the Summer Kidz Program throughout the municipality. The program is designed to cater for participants of all swimming abilities, with lessons in water safety and skill development delivered by fully qualified instructors. MERBEIN PRESCHOOL KINDERGARTEN Enrolments are now open. Places are available for 2018 in the 3 Year Old Program and the 4 Year Old Program. MERBEIN MARLINS SWIMMING CLUB Information for new swimmers. The season begins at the end of October and finishes at the end of March. Training is on Mondays and Thursdays each week from 4.45-6pm. All members must commit to at least three competitions throughout the season and most training days. MERBEIN ROTARY COMMUNITY CAROLS Held at Kenny Park Merbein on Friday 8th December. Entertainment from 6.30pm. The Main Program starts at 7.30pm. Food & Drink stalls and Brass Band entertainment. Carols singing with local schools and community choirs. Free Glow Candles. Santa (approx. 9.15pm). This is an Alcohol Free Event. BYO Chairs/Picnic Rugs.

NIPPER PROGRAM This program is structured for children of all ages and

abilities to teach them basic lifesaving skills. Held 2nd

& 3rd December for children 5-14 years of age

accompanied by a parent or carer. From 8.30-11.30am

at the Mildura Life Saving Club at Apex Park.
