It was wonderful to see so many people at the Gym & Dance display last week; this created an enjoyable event with the help of parents, staff and students. We have also had the science evening on Tuesday that invited many parents from our feeder schools to experience all aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). The event involved hands-on workshops which showcased the independence of our Overton Grange STEM ambassadors in both KS4 & KS5 as well as expose our teaching and parenting community to the amazing world of STEM (see pictures below).

Mr Bennett & Mr Stride

Ofqual Videos on the New Grading System

Ofqual has published information (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-gcse-9-to-1-grades-coming-soon)

to help schools to communicate about the new GCSE grading system. It includes useful short videos schools can

share with staff, students and parents as well as other key messages about the new grading.

Show My Homework

We are excited to be launching Show My Homework, an online tool to help

you keep track of your child’s homework. Show My Homework will allow you

to see the details of the tasks your child has been set, as well as their

submission status.

During the last two weeks of term, students will be provided with login

details for themselves and your personal account, which is ready-linked to

your child’s homework calendar. Simply visit:

https://overtongrange.showmyhomework.co.uk/school/home to view our

school’s live homework calendar and log in.

We will be launching Show My Homework on Tuesday 18 April 2017 and we hope that this service will

provide parents with a deeper insight into the homework your child receives. More importantly, we hope

that it will improve your child’s organisation, time-management, and help them to keep on top of their

workload. Current student diaries are still valid until the end of the academic year but will not be used

from September 2017. From this date, any student who does not have internet access can be provided with

a printed copy of the homework by the class teacher.

Woodcote Green Garden Centre – Green Fingered Kids Scheme

This ‘home grown’ scheme, was first established at the Garden Centre in 2005. At

certain times of the year, they run voucher schemes which allow their customers to collect vouchers with purchases that are made in store. These vouchers can then be

exchanged by the school for credits to spend on gardening equipment and plants and this introduces children to horticulture and all that it can bring to their education. So,

if you visit Woodcote, PLEASE pick up the vouchers and bring them into school.

Thank you. Mrs Rogers

House Quiz - Many thanks to everyone who took part in the house quiz. The teams that took part

showed enthusiasm and determination in the face of some tricky quiz rounds. Congratulations to

Sapphire who came first (winning 40 points), second were Amber (30 points), then Emerald (20

points) and Ruby (10 points).

Easter baking competition - Overton has also launched its annual Easter Baking competition. Students interested in

taking part should see Ms Harker or Mr Crook for a recipe and enter their biscuits on the 27th March. They must use

the recipe in order to enter but biscuits should be personalised with an Easter/Spring theme (this could be through

the ingredients added or the decoration).

YTA competition - In the next couple of weeks the Youth Travel Ambassadors will be launching a new house

competition to promote the scheme. Details will be announced in year 7 and 8 assembly in the next few weeks.

Pupils can also see Ms Nisbeth for more information.

Points update:

Parents/carers should have details of their Vivo log-in (www.vivomiles.com).

This is an excellent way of keeping up to date with how your child is doing at school.

From the Vivos website you can set up an e-mail alert so you always know when your

child’s effort, attainment or behaviour has been recognised and rewarded. Any

problem logging in, please contact Mrs Connolly at school.

If parents/carers have forgotten their login details, please contact Mrs Connolly.

Sutton Schools Netball Tournament

On Saturday 11 March, the Year 7, 8 and 9 Netball

teams participated in the Sutton School's Netball

Tournament.

The students played really well, demonstrating the

skills that they have developed since September.

The overall results for the Overton teams were as

follows; Year 7 came 5th, Year 8 came 7th and Year

9 came 4th, their best result over the last 3 years!

Well done to everyone who participated and thank

you to everyone who came and supported as well

as Hannah Belsham and Ashleigh Paice (both in

Year 12) who managed a team each on the day.

Good luck to the Year 7, 8, 9 & 10 Netball teams

who have The Sutton Comp Schools Tournament

on Monday and Tuesday next week (3.30-5.30pm

at home) and to the senior girls Netball team for their Sutton Schools Tournament on Monday at Nonsuch.

Football

Commiserations to the U16 boys team who lost 2-1 in the semi-final of the Sutton Cup after a

controversial penalty. The boys played their best game of the year and were very unlucky not to win the

game. The boys have now played their last game together at Overton Grange. Since Year 7 they have had

some brilliant results and Cup runs and I would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the very best

in their upcoming exams.

Our U16 girls also had Cup heartache as they lost in the Surrey Cup semi-final to an excellent Ursuline

team. The girls had an excellent run in reaching the Semi-final and should be proud of some outstanding

performances. They now turn their attention to the Sutton Cup final which will be played in the coming

weeks.

Congratulations to the Year 7 girls football team who had a great win over St Philomena's Catholic High

School for Girls in the Sutton League. The girls won the game 4-0.
