Gospel Value for September

RESPECT

I am respectful. I treat others and myself as we deserve to be treated. I show courtesy to everyone. I learn from the wisdom of my elders.

Principal’s Message

Thank you for joining us at our CSCC BBQ and potluck last week. We hope you had a chance to visit with teachers in the classroom. Thank you to the CSCC members for helping with the BBQ. Our next CSCC meeting is October 8th at 7pm.

The students have received all their school supplies for this year. Please pay the material fees to the office asap. Kindergarten is $40, Grades 1-4 is $65 and Grades 5-8 is $75.

Cross Country has started at noon hour with students practicing for their city-wide meet on October 2nd.

As we begin the school year safety is always a top priority when dropping off and picking up children. We ask for the following cooperation in the school zone. Parking enforcement from the city and the Saskatoon Police will be issuing tickets for violations.

1. Please park in designated areas only. The area is well signed so please read the

signs before parking. The school zone has two designated disability zones and a school bus zone. One of the zones across the street from the school is a school bus loading zone. The circle at the end of Ravine court or roundabout is a no parking zone. The school parking lot is paid parking by employees.

2. Please do not stop on the street to load students as the street is very narrow and creates a dangerous situation.

3. The traffic safety act prohibits U-Turns in a school zone. 4. Please reduce your speed. 5. Please use Churchill Drive or the soccer center for picking up children to reduce

congestion in front of the school. As we start our school year we ask that students arrive after 8:30am in the morning unless they are attending our before and after school program. If you would like to register your child for the program please call the school. The program runs from 7:30-8:30am and 3:30-5:30pm each day. SCHOOL LUNCHES Our school lunches for this school year have been setup on Healthyhunger.ca. Our first scheduled lunch is Oct. 31. Please follow the steps below to order your children’s lunches. If you created an account last year, you do not need to create a new account, just login with the same information as last year. Thank you for supporting this great fundraiser!

Supervision Reminders We have noticed a growing number of students who are playing on the playground before and after school and coming to school prior to 8:30am. Please know that students should not be coming into the school prior to 8:30am as there is no supervision before that time. Supervision is provided from 8:40-8:55am. If your child needs care before or after school, we do have a Before and After School Program that is offered and available. Thanks for your cooperation. Nut Aware Please remember we strive to have an environment free of nuts for the safety of our students. Please do not send snacks or lunch with peanut or nut contents.

Inquiry Corner #2

What does an inquiry-based classroom look like? In an inquiry classroom, most decisions that a teacher makes from choosing wall displays and arranging students’ tables to arranging a place for class discussions, is based on the principles of inquiry. Teachers strive to balance what is practical with creating an environment where students’ ideas and thinking are at the centre. At the start of the school year the walls can be quite bare. Teachers in partnership with their students fill the blank canvas with students’ questions, ideas and expressions of understanding. Throughout the year representations of student learning- as expressed through art, writing, and 3-d items are displayed. Often a space is devoted to student questions.
