Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that the first month of school has come and gone and we are seeing the signs of fall all around us. It has been a busy month with a fire drill, moving into our new classrooms, student photos, the Terry Fox Run, Welcome Back Barbecue and our “Meet the Senior Class” event. Thank you to Division 4 and 6 for their support of our broader commu-nity with the freezie sale for soccer in Uganda and chip sale for our Terry Fox campaign.
With cooler and rainy days upon us, please remember to dress your child(ren) appro-priately for the weath-
er. Students are en-couraged to have boots, umbrellas and rain jackets at school for poor weather days. Only on ex-tremely wet and windy days will there be an ‘inside’ day at recess and lunch.
We are still waiting for a number of Stu-dent Verification Forms sent home earlier this month. If you have not re-turned yours, please do as soon as possi-ble. Please remem-ber to notify the school office with any updates/change of information through-out the year.
Our newsletter, cal-endar and notices are posted on our website (http://lakeview.sd41.bc.ca). We are in the pro-cess of activating the subscription feature (hopefully mid-October) on the web-site so parents will receive notifications when new items are posted. This will eventually replace
the listserv which we are no longer able to send out attachments on, but rather links to the webpage for in-formation that can be found on our website.
Thank you for attend-ing the Welcome Back Barbecue. It was wonderful to see so many families at-tend our first school community event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Parent Advisory Council for organiz-ing the Welcome Back Barbecue. Re-member, our PAC meets regularly each month so please, try to attend a meeting or watch for volunteer opportunities in the school. We are al-ways looking for help in and around the school.
Sincerely,
B. Cornell

If your our child arrives late:
It is expected that Lakeview students will arrive
on time. If a child is late (that is, arrives after the
bell has gone), he/she must report to the office
before proceeding to his/her classroom. There is
a sign-in/sign-out binder on the front counter for children that arrive or leave within school hours.
Being on time for school is a life skill that rein-
forces respect and responsibility. Parents can assist by ensuring that their children arrive at
school well before the warning bell to avoid the
traffic rush.
Please note that parents are expected to make
arrangements for a reasonable arrival time at
school in the morning and pick up
after school of their children.
Emergency Contact
It is critical that the office have a phone contact in addition to your home/work/cell number. In the event of sickness or an emergency, the second num-ber has been invaluable.
Please keep the school in-formed of any changes in
these telephone numbers.

Freezies for Football for the World!!
On Wednesday, September 14th, Alikhan Popat came to visit Lakeview Elementary School in Burnaby, BC. He
spent some time talking about Football for the World with a group of eight and nine year olds. After looking at lots
of pictures and talking about what it is like to go to school in Uganda, Ali spent some time on the field playing soccer
with Division Six. Everyone had a fabulous time!
Division Six had such a good time, they decided to do something for Ali’s foundation. Since the weather had been so
warm, they decided to do a Fabulous Friday Freezie Sale and donate all the money to Football for the World so that a
child could go to school in Uganda. The goal was to raise $170.00 (about $1.00 for every student who currently at-
tends Lakeview).
The students made signs and created morning announcements to remind everyone to bring their $1.00 for a freezie.
Friday, September 16th was the Fabulous Friday Freezie Sale at Lakeview Elementary. The weather was perfect!
We had the sale at recess and sold out of freezies in 15 minutes. Some people just donated some money and did not
even want a freezie! We are delighted to say that $267. 35 was raised to help a child in Uganda go to school.
