An In-house Newsletter

dedicated for Placement Activity viz.,Training the

students for Competitive

Examination (IAS/KAS..), Interviews & Facilitating

Campus Selections by various Organizations etc.

Kudos! To the relentless effort

put-in thru JIPC, since 2003.

Yes, till today 90 students from our college have

got selected to pursue MS Degree thru Wipro. Each

of these students has received Rs.8,00,000/-

(Rupees Eight Lakhs) as ‘Stipend’ during the course.

(i.e., 90 x Rs.8,00,000.00 = Rs.7,20,000,00.00)

Benefit of more than

Rs.7,00,00,000.00

(Rupees Seven Crores) to the students of OUR College or let’s say

to the people of Hassan‼

Let alone Wipro, many have got selected to other MNCs Viz.,

TCS, Infosys-IT, Infosys-BPO, SLK Softwares, Oracle,

Accenture, etc., and are working there. The benefits getting to

these students till today runs in Millions of Rupees.

,

From 2003 to 2006, concept of ‘Campus Selection’ was first

introduced in our college. It was a new thing to the Degree

Students. Till then, it was heard only to the Engineering

Students. A brief but a detailed study was done at personal

level. It was understood only 10% of the students who are

passing out the Degree are getting PG seats. Amigosh! Where do

the rest 90% of the students go? Obviously, they go in search of

Job‼

In 2003, as Innovative Programme, JIPC (Job Information &

Placement Cell) was started. It was started, without an exclusive

room, without a Computer & Internet to communicate with

Companies, without a Cup-Board to keep files/records, without

any communication devices, and even without any monetary

back-up to run the show and finally without any members to

work for it. The Convenor and that’s it.

,

Till today…nearly 40 Campus Selections have been held for the benefits of our Students.

(30 being organised by us and students were

encouraged to participate in another 10 Campus

Selections held elsewhere).

Another interesting factor cropped up. Hassan is not catering Jobs to all

the students who are finishing their Degree here. There were thousands of

them every year. And majority of them are moving out of Hassan either to

Bengaluru, Mysore, Mangalore or elsewhere, in search of Good and Decent

Jobs. Good and Decent Jobs are the one which provides enough salary to

sustain normal life, Increments every year, Promotional opportunities,

Medical Benefits extended to the family members also, etc., These type of

jobs were seldom found in Hassan in good nos. Hence, there was Brainwash

happening at Hassan. This is happening even today. All the educated

youngsters who are looking for lucrative jobs other than those who are

moving into Agriculture, who are bound to be here due to family positions or

who are married-off, are moving out of Hassan.

At the same time, a decade ago, there were fewer companies visiting

Hassan for recruiting Degree Students. Efforts were made to take the

interesting students to Bengaluru itself for Placements (viz., ICICI Prudential’s

thru Ma fai). Also, whichever company executives who were passing thru

Hassan, were requested to conduct Campus Selections to our students (viz.,

TATA DHAN, Apex Lab, Dewan Housing Corp, Hind High Vac, Calyptso

Foods,..). But few were getting selected.

The important understandings from these efforts was, our students do

lack in communication, do lack in understanding Career and were in the

imagination that everyone will get PG seat. Till recently, our PG centres were

catering only 10% to all the Degree students put together. Hence, there was

need to make the students ‘Job-ready or Corporate Ready’.

,

Now, JIPC has widened its approach..Students are being informed

about the opportunities after Degree or PG in a broader Perspective.

They can get into MNCs, or into UPSC (IAS..), KPSC (KAS…)

Banks, LICs, Railways and other Govt.Institutions thru Competitive

Exams, or Agriculture or Self-Employed(Entrepreneurship).

In 2006, with Infosys Progeon ‘Train the Trainers’ Training, efforts

were made to train the interested final year students in Communication,

Analytical Skills, English Language, etc., and make them Corporate ready.

Then, a typical problem cropped up. When to train these students! The

College was running from morning 9.30am to evening 5 pm. This is rural

area. Transport facility was not so good. You can’t expect the students

especially Girl students to be there at the college by 7.30 am nor you can

make them to stay beyond College hours.

Finally, it was decided to train the students on Saturday afternoons

between 2.30 pm and 5.30pm and also on Sundays/Holidays from 10 am

to 5 pm. These classes are still running. The interested final year

students are being trained at the college premises itself on Holidays

without affecting the normal functioning of the college.

The important activities of JIPC are:

1. Conducting Special Training Classes.

2. Gettings Books/Magazines relating to various Competitive exams.

3. Bring Newsletters pertaining to JIPC activities.

4. Conducting Special Workshops on Competitive Exams.

5. Inviting External Experts.

6. Inviting Alumni JIPC Students.

7. Corporate Tours.

8. Conducting Campus Selections.

9. Work as Nodal Center for all the colleges of the District.

10. Support the Neighbouring Colleges in Placement Activities.

When it was started there was no clear way to

progress..Even though Vision was Clear, there were many

obstacles viz., No MNCs were seldom coming over to these

areas in search of Degree Students and many more. A new way

was to be carved out..a tedious journey through out…there was

no smooth sailing at any moment…even though thoughts were

clear…..it has to be clarified every now and then…even after

these success…still a long journey on a unclear road is

awaiting…a new pathway has to be made….
