Students of FDDI, Chhindwara at TIL

TIL is India’s leading leather and leather products exporter. As a leather and leather products exporter, the company operates its leather business in India from various parts of the country such as Dewas, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, as well as from China, South Asia and the Middle East, leveraging its global network. Over 99 per cent of TIL products are exported to over 35 countries.

Students were guided by the factory experts who also highlighted the relevance of modern footwear technology & machines used for making shoes in the respective factories.

Operational Exposure in Retailing for FDDI, Chhindwara students at

‘Central Mall’, NagpurWith an objective to provide operational exposure in retailing to the students of the Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Chhindwara, a Mall visit at ‘Central Mall’, Nagpur was organized on 5th May 2015.

At Bata India Limited, the students of FSFDP Kolkata campus saw the assembly conveyer of different constructions and styles of footwear such as Moccasin, Strobel, Sock lasting, Jogger, Classic, Industrial safety shoes etc. They also learned about the PU pouring and DIP process of footwear making.

Bata India Ltd., is the largest footwear retailer and the leader in the footwear industry in India. The company is engaged in the business of manufacturing and trading of footwear and accessories through their retail and wholesale network. The company with its sturdy, value-for-money shoes had come to be known as one of the attractive brand in the country.

Similarly, at SSIPL, the students of FSFDP Rohtak campus acquired knowledge on sports shoe manufacturing with all related compliance and safety measures including systematic plant working. Some of new techniques were observed and understood like - sublimation (tattoo printing) on fabric, computerized stitching, EVA sole molding etc.

SSIPL was established in the year 1994 and its first footwear manufacturing plant was set up at Kundli, Sonepat in the year 1995. SSIPL is the largest authorized footwear manufacturer for brand Nike in India for over 19 years. SSIPL Retail Limited operates seven footwear-manufacturing facilities in the States of Haryana, Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

At TIL, the students of FSFDP Chhindwara campus saw the Clicking, Closing, Lasting section and their material stores and tannery. The students also understood the different constructions of footwear, the maintenance of the machines, finishing of the final product, final packing and dispatching of the goods.2

Accompanied by the faculty members of FDDI, a total of 46 students of FDDI School of Retail & Fashion Merchandise (FSRFM) visited the Mall.

The students were divided into groups and were given a project to study the various aspects of retailing like Visual Merchandising, Store Operations, Customer Service, Sales and Promotional Activities, Retail Merchandizing etc.

The students were exposed to an environment where the major brands are available under one roof and yet each one of them so significantly different from the other.

The visit was an eye opener which helped the students to understand the kind of effort one has to put behind the beautifully decorated & arranged show windows.

Expanding the rangePremium leather goods brand Hidesign forayed into the footwear market with the pan-India launch of men’s shoes. The collection has classic

formal shoes as well as casual shoes like moccasins, boat shoes and sneakers in washed leather and is available in a range of colours. They are priced between Rs. 4,295 and Rs. 5,995.

The launch process took about one year for the company. The range is targeted at working professionals. The company has launched the collection across 30 exclusive Hidesign stores besides its website and on Amazon.

It has installed a four feet-tall shoe in some malls of Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru to create buzz around the launch.

A women’s collection will be rolled out in June and the range will include dressy evening shoes, wedges and sandals.

Mr. Ashish Rai, HR – Manager explained the intricacy of the workings of ‘Central Mall’ to the students. The concerned department In-charges, accompanied and interacted with the students during the visit and resolved their queries regarding Mall Management, Branding, Fabric & Garment, Visual Merchandising, Elements of Fashion, Retail Software, Supply Chain Management etc.

The Indian retail sector is witnessing a process of change and has been surging ahead at a tremendous pace.

E-comm users in India to reach 100 million in 2016: Google

The total number of Indian shopping online will rise to about 100 million in 2016 from about 35 million last year, a senior Google India official said.

The number of e-commerce related searches rose 68% during Jan-Mar in non-metros and 59% in metros, Vikas Agnihotri, industry director, Google India, said.

A total of around 200 million Indian are expected to be Internet users, according to estimates by industry associations. Agnihotri also said that the last two years have seen a tremendous shift in web traffic in favour of mobile phones and away from desktops and laptops.

“56% of e-commerce related queries are coming from mobile devices compares to 44% from desktop,” he said.

In an effort to tap into the mobile growth, many e-commerce players such as Flipkart do not allow mobile users to access their website instead forcing them to download their mobile applications.
