ENJOY THE HOLIDAY
As we break for what will hopefully be a lovely long holiday, may I
thank all our families, friends and parishes for their support this
year. We have had yet another successful year and there is stillmuch we can do to improve further. I have read the responses to
the Parents Survey and will look at improvements we can make
next year based on these and was delighted to read so many
positive comments about our work. I am also grateful to you for
your suggestions about how we could do things better, Thank
you. I hope all our families have a fabulous and well deserved
holiday.
STAFFING
As we approach the end of the year, we have 11 staff who are

Our sincere thanks for the service of all staff leaving, and our good
wishes go with them. Particular thanks to Mr Clayton who hasserved the college extremely well for some 36 years he has in
fact taught many of our parents. Mr Clayton has seen many
changes over the years including 3 Headteachers. It has been my
privilege to work with him for the past 17 years. He will be sorely
missed by us all.
Mr Norman has been with us now for 15 years as an Information
Technology technician. The changes in technology have been
significant in that time and Mr Norman has made sure we have
remained at the forefront of these innovations. We wish both
colleagues good health and great happiness in Retirement.
I will be pleased to let you know in September about new staff
joining us.
Ms Hughes, Principal
ANIMAL FARM
Congratulations to the cast
and crew of 'Animal Farm'
for their successful
performance on the
evening of 27th June 2012.
Over 50 students were
involved in the production
either on stage or back
stage and the hall was
packed with an audience of
around 200 people on the night. The show was well received with
Ms. Hughes saying to the cast "You have done so, so well with
such a demanding and intellectually challenging text and it has
been just an absolutely wonderful performance this evening."
Some of the cast went on a visit to Lawrence Weston Community
Farm in the week following the performance and got to meet the
animal they played, which was enjoyed by all! Not sure whether
the animals enjoyed the visit!

visited Port Aventura, a colossal theme park that is home to the
tallest and fastest rollercoasters in Europe. One student said We
all had the time of our lives and great fun! The trip was a
tremendous success and I hope that it will continue to take placefor many years to come.

Biology Field TripThe Summer OLimpets 2012!
With the numbers of pupils opting to study Triple Science
continuing to grow, this year we ran three Biology Field trips; two
groups of year 10s have now returned after four days in South
Devon and the third group are due back this Thursday. The pupils
spent two days on different beaches gathering data on Limpets;
they then spent a further day and a half carrying out a
complicated series of statistical analyses to decide if and why the
populations were different from each other. Besides completing
their research into Limpet populations, pupils had a full
programme of activities and entertainments over the four days.Highlights included a visit to Paignton Pier, fish and chips on the
beach, a birthday party, a cinema trip, a black tie dinner cooked
by the teachers, a disco, walks on Dartmoor, an evening bat-
spotting, night walks to Buckfast Abbey and the tomb that
inspired Conan Doyles The Hound of the Baskervilles, games of
Capture the flag in an iron-age fort. It was an unforgettable
experience for all involved, and pupils were justifiably proud of
the work they completed; a big thanks to the staff who gave up so
much of their time to make this trip such a success.

PERFORMING ARTS RESIDENTIAL
Congratulations to all those
involved in the Performing Arts
residential last week.
Pupils spent a week at Exeter
University, working with pupils
and teachers from Henbury
School. The trip involved an
intensive 5-day rehearsal
schedule, preparing a full
programme of music, dance and drama, including extracts from
'The Lion King' for Friday evening's concert in the Colston Hall 2.
The event was a huge success!
PASTEUR ENRICHMENT WEEK
On the House Day during Enrichment week, Pasteur pupils in
Years 7-9 raised money for the Children's Hospice South West by
dressing up for 'Green Day': accessorising their outfits with as
much green as they could! They also took part in the Send My
Friend to School campaign, raising awareness of the 67 million
children in the world without education. The pupils made 'medals
with a message' to urge world leaders to keep their promise of
ensuring all children have access to free education by 2015. These
'medals' will be sent to the local MP to pass to David Cameron.
Coraline Visit.
Bridget Phelan has
revisited St Bedes, after
leaving as a pupil in1982. She came here to
talk to four Year 7
classes about her
current job: working on
the set of stop-
animation films such as
Coraline and this
Summers ParaNorman. Bridget talked about the fact that she
was the only girl in her design/technology class at the time but
was determined to put these skills to good use in the future;
which she clearly has done. Bridget is now working in America for
a company called Laika and the company kindly donated a book
and signed poster to be used as prizes. Bridget told pupils aboutthe day to day work that she is involved in with the help of her
niece, Year 7 Bethany Horswell. There is obviously an artistic
streak throughout the family!
