    YEAR 11 PROM

Our Year 11 pupils turned out in all their splendour for their

    prom on 29th

June 2012. The excitement before and during

the evening was very special. Nearly every pupil attended

and there to share in their celebration were over 40 of the

staff who had worked with and for them over the years.

MUSIC ACHIEVEMENTSCongratulations to the following pupils for their fantastic

achievements in their ABRSM music exams:

Fergus Bradford: Piano Grade 2 (Merit)

Amy Charters: Piano Grade 7 (Pass)

Isobel Fraser: Piano Grade 1 (Distinction)

Louise Mason: Piano Grade 2 (Distinction)

Michael Savery: Piano Grade 3 (Distinction)

    SPORTS RESULTS

Congratulations to the senior boys cricket team who

won both their league matches last week beating Redland

Green by 1 run and Cotham by 9 wickets. Well done to all

    who participated.

    OLYMPIC FRIDAY

As you know St. Bedes has twin subject specialisms of

Science and Sport and on Friday 22nd

    June St Bedes

welcomed 250 primary school children to participate in a

more local Olympics - a full day event for year 6 pupils from

link schools experiencing lectures, workshops and sporting

    activities.

Each activity focused on the Science of Elite Sport and

pupils had the opportunity to compare their own

physiology and performance with that of Olympic

    Champions.

We received several letters from pupils after the event,

here are Year 6 from Corpus Christis thoughts on the day:

I really liked trying to throw the Javelin but mine wouldnt

go very far! and My day at St Bedes was packed with

    interesting facts!

If we can bring Science alive and make it relevant and

interesting the more likely it is that children will engage and

achieve a better understanding of this subject.

    DESCARTES HOUSE VIRTUAL EVEREST CHALLENGE

On Wednesday the 27th June 2012, Descartes House took

part in a Virtual Everest Challenge to raise money for the

Jesse May trust. 91 pupils took part in climbing a staircase

in half hour blocks to try and reach the height of Everest.

Pupils worked very hard and managed to climb the height

of Everest a fantastic 5 times during the course of the day

and have raised a total of 924.68 so far!

Very well done and a massive thank you to all who took

    part and contributed.

    BELL BURNELL TYRE PULL

Nearly one hundred pupils from Bell Burnell House raised a

staggering 1300 pulling tyres around the 3G football pitch.

They completed 114 miles - two particular pupils stood out

Natasha Soodeen 7BVR, who completed 2.4 miles and

Keanan Mitchard 10BLS, who completed 2.8 miles in the

half hour. Mr Johnson is very proud of all those who

participated and raised this vast amount of money for Help

For Heroes. Outstanding sponsorship amounts came from

Katrina Shaughnessy, Callum Grundy-White and Isabel Kingwho between them raised 215.50.

    BRISTOL BORDEAUX EXCHANGE

Watch out for information about the 2013 Exchange which

is a wonderful experience, not only a chance to improve

your French but also to deepen your understanding of

another culture. The closing date for the scheme is October

2012 and although this might seem far away, it would be a

good idea to consider the benefits of the exchange and

whether you might like to be a part of it, well in advance. If

you are interested, please see your language teacher in the

first instance or talk to Ms Sanders.

    PARIS TRIP

    SCHOOL MEALS

We are pleased to confirm that this coming year there will

not be any increase in the cost of school meals. They will

remain at the current cost of 2.35.

YEAR 10 COPE GROUP GO KARTING

Today we visited Team Sport Raceway in Avonmouth.

Prior to the trip we planned the route, costing, timing

and risk assessment. Before we raced we listened to

safety rules and we had a chance to see what the go

karts are like. We had 15 minutes to go as fast as we

wanted around the track. Josh Barrys top speed was

47mph! (He also won fastest person on the track and

was placed in the top 96% of drivers!) Jordan Bebbington

proved himself the best drifter showing excellent

control. Bartosz Przerwa gained the second fastest

award even though it was his first time on the track. We

are hoping to go there in the near future since we had a

    brilliant time.

By Josh Barry and Bartosz Przerwa.

    BRAINTEASER

An army general wanted ten soldiers to cross a river.

There was no bridge and the soldiers could not swim.

The general saw a row boat in which were two children.

The boat could only hold two children or one soldier at

    once.

How did the soldiers cross the river in the boat?

    SAFETY TIP:

Employers are more frequently searching online for

information about job applicants now to check their

internet footprint and social networking sites to find out if

the candidate is really someone they want to employ.

Something your child posts online now, for fun, could one

day come back to haunt them.
