We are ranked as one of the top 10% of non-selective schools in England under this measure. Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT (The Schools Network) said “St Bede’s has proved itself to be one of the best schools in the country at securing superb GCSE outcomes for their students. These results are a testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at St Bede’s Catholic College and a vindication of their belief in high expectations, good teaching and ambition for every young person”. Our Year 11 are now coming to the end of their examinations, we hope and pray that they too would achieve the results they deserve for all their hard work. Congratulations Congratulations to Hannah Slaney (7PLD) who attended her first European climbing competition, in Austria, as part of the Junior British Lead Climbing Team on 27th May 2012. Imst lies high in the Alps, close to Innsbruck and the competition was held on a magnificent outdoor man-made competition wall. Hannah says “I was placed 14 th out of 37 competitors, aiming for a top 10 position. I started strongly holding a 9th place after the first day, but a fall low down on the first route on day 2 cost me several places. It was such an amazing experience and I am excited about competing at this level again”. Tyre Pull – Help for Heroes

Last week more than 100 pupils’ in Bell Burnell House dragged tyres around the football pitch to raise funds for Help the Heroes. Mr Johnson, their Head of House, said: "The pupils really believe all our servicemen are heroes and wanted to raise money for those who come back wounded. They thought it was a good charity to support. All the pupils did very well and I am very proud of them.”

Clothes for a Cause This term we will once again be collecting good quality second hand clothes, shoes, belts and handbags. You may remember that we have participated in the same project previously. All of the items are sent abroad to those who really need our help. In return, the company pays per kilo of items donated which we then pass on to our local charities. We managed to raise nearly £100 last year! Clothes can be brought into college between Monday 25th June and Friday 6th July. Thank you for your support. Mr Johnson, Head of Bell Burnell House. Free School Meals Please may I urge you to apply for Free School Meals if you receive one of: Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based), Child Tax Credit (but are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income does not exceed £16,190), support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum seekers Act 1999, the ‘Guaranteed Element’ of Pension Credit, Income Related Employment and Support Allowance benefit. We encourage you to take this opportunity to accept free school meals for your children as, if you are in receipt of free school meals, we receive additional funding called ‘Pupil Premium’ which is used to support your child and others. Many children on Free School Meals receive one to one tutoring in Maths or English. Applications can be made by contacting St Bede’s Reception staff on 0117 377 2200 or by coming into college.

BRAINTEASER IX = 6. What curve can make this problem equal?

SAFETY TIP: Don’t want to be an internet star yourself? How do you know if your child posted any pictures or video of you online? Sometimes children naively put family holiday snaps or home videos online, not realising it may embarrass or even cause problems professionally.

Sports Day Provided the weather is suitable, Sports Day will take place next Friday 29th June between 11.00am and 1.00pm, following the mass for the Feast of SS Peter and Paul and the commissioning of Eucharistic Ministers. Parents are very welcome to attend. However, if you do intend to spectate please let us know in advance so that seating arrangements can be made. In the interest of health and safety please do not bring pet dogs. Competitors can change into PE kit before going out onto the college field but all pupils must attend in full school uniform. As there is no shade on the field, please ensure that your son/daughter comes to college well equipped with sun block, a hat and plenty of water (no glass bottles please). Pupils must also bring books for lessons 2-5 week B in case of inclement weather. WISE WORDS! If you don’t have the best of everything, make the best of everything you have. Erk Russell, College Football Coach

LAST BRAINTEASER ANSWER If you plot out all the games it can be very tedious. If, instead of being interested in the winner, you decide to become interested in all the losers, the problem becomes much easier. Since there is but one winner there must be 67 losers. Since each match has a loser, there will be just 67 matches.
