One of the major focuses for term three will be our school production “Lady Pirates of the Caribbean”.  A reminder school will nish at the earlier time of 2.50pm next Monday & Tuesday to allow teachers time to prepare for Parent Interviews. Buses will run at the usual time. Congratulations to Reid Meiklejohn who is the second student for 2011 to earn an Honours Award. Reid’s success will be recognised during school assembly.  Most MIS Honours students gain the merits and excellences required over the two years the y are at MIS. Reid has achieved this award in 18 months; this is an outstanding eort which he will be very proud of.  Part of the requirements to achieve Honours at MIS is to receive two Excel lences and one Merit fr om points gained from Academics, Sports, Culture and Civics. Reid has achieved three Excellences which shows his commit- ment to diligence across all areas of school life.  Reid has become an Honours student by gaining an Excellence in Academics, Sports and Culture.  As with all students who manage to achieve this award, Reid’s success has been the result of actively making the most of the extension and enrichment programmes our school oers across academic, cultural, sports and civics areas. Reid’s achievements are not only a credit to himself but an outstanding example of school -wide attitude, character and eort that we value in all MIS students. M I S Honours Student Reid Meiklejohn - Second MIS Honours student for 2011  Morrinsville Gwynne Shield Rugby The Gwynne Shield is played each year during the term two school holidays; it is made up of 10 repre- sentative teams of year 8 and year 7 boys from the Waikato region.  The Morrinsville team showed incredible commit- ment, determination and courage to graft out two wins from their pre-tournament games. This attitude continued at the tournament playing ve games over ve days to reach the 2011 Gwynne Shield semi nals. Morrinsville were unable to beat a very good Te Awamutu side on the sixth day. After a well - earned rest day the boys were back on the eld the following day playing o for 3 rd and 4 th against Tritons (Tokoroa & Putaruru).  After 59 minutes Tritons scored winning the game 7 - 3 in the last minute. Although th e boys were bitte rly disappointed at the end of the game they were soon celebrating a very successful tournament.  Special Congratulations to the following MIS students: Kingston Higham and Henryford Wilson on their selection to trial for Waikato Roller Mills representative squad. National Standards Meeting What do National Standards mean for your child?  Are they focused on your child’s individual learning needs or a one-size ts all approach? Come along to a public meeting being held here in the MIS hall on Thursday 11th August at 6.30pm (next week). All welcome!  Quest speaker - Martin Thrupp Professor from Waikato Unive rsity and expert on National Standards.  We would like to thank The NZ Christian Farmers who recently made a very generous do nation to our school Breakfast Club of $500.00. This is greatly appreciated and will benefit the students involved in this programme. Music Fees Now Due Music Tuition Fees for Terms three and four are now due. All students involved will bring home a Tuition Fees Notice. Please note: keyboard fees for two terms are $125 and all other instruments is $100 for two terms.

Measles - You may be aware that there is currently a high

risk of a measles epidemic developing in NZ. Cases have

recently spread to the Waikato.

Important points for parents to note: Measles is a highly infecous disease which can aect 

anyone not immunised. 

If we have a case of measles here at MIS, then any non -

immunised students should stay home to stop the diseasespreading. 

Immunisaon is the only measles protecon and this is

available at no cost from your medical centre. 

The symptoms of measles include a runny nose, a cough,

sore eyes and a fever, followed by a raised red rash that 

starts on the face and then covers the body.  

 Anyone showing symptoms should contact 

their doctor or the Healthline on 0800 611 116.  

Parent — Teacher Interviews are being heldon Monday 8th & Tuesday 9th August.

PIRATES, PIRATES, PIRATES...

The production ‘Lady Pirates of The Caribbean’ is wellunderway and we are starting to look at staging andprops.

We will require all sorts of items that will give anauthentic pirate look including: wooden swords, piratehats, pistols, wooden crates, old curtains or drapes,

wooden barrels, thick coils of rope, netting.

If you have any of these items or other props that youthink may be useful please contact the office - thanks!

PRODUCTION REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE

The directors of the school production respectfullyrequest that students who have main speaking roles donot go on holiday during weeks 5, 6 & 7 of this term.We have been practising with quite a few students absentwhich makes the production difficult to achieve;obviously, if a student is ill we wouldn't expect them to

 be at school.

In week four all our Coast to Coast Camp students will be absent and the production is being held in week seven.

DONATIONS FOR PRODUCTION SUPPER 

As part of the production a group of students and MrsDainty (Food Technology Teacher) provide supper onthe evenings of the show for the audience to purchaseduring the interval break time.

We would be very grateful if anyone is able to donate

 baking ingredients which can be used for the supper (eg: butter, sugar, flour etc). Please contact the school officeon 889 6629 if you would like more information ordonations can be dropped into the office at any time.Thank you very much!

performing. Friday 12th August, doors open at 6.30pm.Gateway Centre, 950 Victoria Street, Hamilton.Tickets available at the door $5 pp or $20 family pass (2+2) 

Students who are interested in trying out for our schoolrock bands in 2012 are encouraged to go along for anevening of great entertainment and the opportunity tosee what it’s all about! 

The next MI - Mates Meeting is being held onTuesday 9th August at 7.00pm in the staffroom.
