    Coast to Coast Camp

    2011 Morrinsville Intermediate Sports Camp Team with teachers & parents.

    TEACHER ONLY DAY TOMORROWThe MIS Board Of Trustees has approved a Teacher Only Day Tomorrow (Friday 2nd September) for teachers

    to take part in professional development. Thank you for arranging alternative care for you child/ren.

    On the 22nd of August our Coast to Coast team travelled toTotara Springs in Matamata to compete in the annual Coast toCoast sports week!! Everyone was very excited to nally be atcamp and were all ready to start competing.

    After we had settled into the cabins the sports started! Swim-ming and cross country were rst up, we tried our hardest, butwe soon realised that the competition was harder than weexpected!

    Tuesday arrived and everyone was buzzing at the breakfasttable. Quality Living was a daily routine that taught us somevery valuable lessons! After an AWESOME two days of full -onsports we were all waiting to hear who had made the semi -nals!! . Overall we had made it into 11 nals! We came homewith seven 1st place trophies and four runners-up and bigsmiles on our faces, but all VERY TIRED!!!

    What a wonderful week we had last week at Coast to CoastSports Camp! We want to personally thank all students thatcame on camp for their fantastic behavior, positive attitudesand for pushing themselves to the limit on the sports eld. Wewere very proud of you all. Also thank you to Colin Meiklejohn,Karin Barr, Shaun Peek, Tracey Allison, Kirsty McCarthy andStephen Higham for your help and support.

    Congratulations to our students who are competingat the Annual NZ AIMS Games Competition in Tau-ranga. The NZ AIMS competition involves 119 schoolsthis year from throughout NZ with over 4,500students competing in one of 15 dierent sportingcodes.

    Brianna Armstrong and Sean Lovelock travelled toTauranga to compete in the NZ AIMS Games CrossCountry event. It was held at Waipuna Park inWelcome Bay and was a challenging course with itslong steep hills.

    Brianna was placed 18th in the year 8 girls which wasan awesome eort following an exhausting week atSports Camp. Sean ran a determined race and placed5th in the year 7 boys. These are excellent results!!Well done to you both.

    Charlotte Richardson, Hannah Wilton, Samantha Ley,Jordyn Mellow, Ella Wilton are currently competing inthe GymSport Competition.

    Bradley Larsen and Matty Hopper are currentlycompeting in the Squash Competition.

    We will report on the GymSport and Squash resultsnext week when we will have nal results.

    LOST PROPERTY

    We have an increasing amount ofstudents who have lost items oftheir uniform. We are askingparents to double-check theirchilds uniform to make sure theyhaven't accidentally brought homethe wrong clothing.

    Also, please ensure all uniformitems are clearly named. Thanks.

    Student Phones at School

    At Morrinsville Intermediate students are permitted to bring

    their cell phones to school but they MUST be taken to theschool oce and handed in on arrival to school and collectedagain at the end of the day. All cell phones must be namedor decorated (eg: with stickers etc) so they can be identiedwithout being turned on. Any phones not handed in will beconscated at the discretion of the Principal.

    World Cup Rugby Mufi Day - Friday 9th September.

    All classes are currently involved in a mini-study on a country

    involved in the Rugby World Cup Compeon. This will also create

    a bit of healthy compeon between classes as the tournament

    progresses!!

    As part of this unit study we will be having a mui daynext Friday.

    Students MUST come in the colours of the team they are following

    in class. Students are allowed to use face paintbut only on theirface! Coloured ribbons / hair es etc may be worn in the hair but

    hair may not be dyed or coloured in any way. Finger nails may be

    painted in the team colours but no jewellery please.

    Thank you to Olivia Holten for kindly taking on the roleas Convenor of Morrinsville Junior netball. Thank you toour coaches and managers for volunteering their timeover the season. This season has been the rst time MIS

    has had 4 teams playing senior netball on Thursdaynights and all teams having great success. 8A - 3rd BReserve, 7A - 4th B Reserve, 8B - Runners up in Cgrade and Red - 3rd in C grade. MIS Red has had anoutstanding season, being relegated up to Thursdaynights senior competition, after being outright clearwinners in the grading rounds of the junior competition.

    In the Saturday junior competition congratulations to 7Bwho have had an excellent season: Intermediate Grade1 - winners for First round, Intermediate Grade 1 - win-ners of Championship Round and Runners-up for theintermediate grade goaling cup.

    next week in the schoollibrary (The Hub). Great

    opportunity to start Christmas shopping!

    On Tuesday it was Cup-cake Day for the SPCA.Miss Morris, Mrs LeHeron, along with ourcanteen monitors andLibrarians, made someyummy batches of cup-cakes to sell.

    We raised $139.00 to go to the SPCA. A great eort to avery worthwhile course! Thanks to everyone involved!!

    Daniel Vettori Competition

    Daniel Vettori, NZ test cricketer is fielding a challenge to inter-mediate and secondary schools nationwide to enter theSPECSAVERS VETTORI TEST. The winning school willhave a visit from Daniel Vettori and experience their very ownhalf day coaching session. The Specsavers Vettori Test aimsto highlight the importance of regular eye tests for all stu-dents.
