    Principals Report

    Welcome back to the Year 8 students and a big welcome to our Year 7students. Intermediate school is a very important transition in the livesof students. They are the years when many of the skills and workhabits that are essential for success in secondary and tertiary educationare formed and developed. We are looking forward to an excellent startto the year and we will be holding a Meet the Teacher eveningon Wednesday 22nd February at 7.00pm when parents / caregivershave the opportunity to meet their childs teacher and have a lookaround the school. This is an informal meeting and appointments arenot necessary.

    Also, expect to receive information from your childs teacher regardingsuch things as homework, behaviour management and general start ofthe year organisation.

    Uniforms: All students are required to wear full correct uniform at alltimes; uniforms are to be kept clean and in good order. If there is ever aproblem with part of the uniform, students must bring a signed note fromhome to receive a uniform pass. It is most important to have all uniformitems named, including PE gear and shoes.

    School Fees and Payments: These payments cover the materials andtake home component of Technology Projects throughout the year.They also provide educational, cultural, sporting and social activities

    which are not covered by Ministry funding. All families are urged tomeet the obligation of making these payments for the benefit of thestudents. The fees and payments total $115.00 (breakdown below):

    A formal account for school fees will be sent home with your childduring the next week. Any parents/caregivers who pay their childs feesand payments in full by 31st March 2012 can deduct a $15 discountbringing the total to $100.00. Families are welcome to pay in instal-

    ments or via internet banking. Our school bank account details areincluded on the statements. Eftpos is also available at the office.

    Powhiri: The school will be holding a Powhiri on Friday 3rd February,to welcome new students and staff at 11.00am. Teachers will explainthe process and protocol of this event to students. Parents are mostwelcome to attend.

    If parents have any concerns, their first point of contact is with the classroom teacher of their child. Please send a brief writ-ten note with your child, the teacher can then action the concern or phone you to discuss the issue further. Alternatively,you may phone the school office on 07 889 6629 and a message can be passed on or email the teacher direct.

    All students are required to bring their PE gear every day. If your child is unable to participate in PE for any reason, parentsneed to send a signed note of explanation to the classroom teacher.

    It is most important to name all clothing, shoes and belongings. If any items do go missing students are advised to let their

    teacher know ASAP, more often than not, misplaced items which have been named are easily found again. Clothing etcwhich is left at school will be placed in the lost property and students can view this any time by asking at the office.

    A school newsletter will be distributed every Thursday (starting next week). This will contain all matters of school news,coming events and information. The newsletter can be sent home with your child or emailed home (If you would like theweekly newsletters emailed home please email [email protected] with your childs name and the email address youwould like it sent to).

    The school office is open each day from 8.00am to 4.00pm. Our office staff will be able to answer day-to-day queries youmay have. Please phone the office on 07 889 6629 before 9.15am if your child is going to be late or absent. All unexplainedabsences will be followed up by Truancy Officers.

    Students who are late must sign in at the school office on arrival. Please send a note or phone the office if your child will belate to school. Students who need to leave school for any reason must be collected from the school office and signed out.

    Students are not generally permitted to use the school phone for personal calls. On the odd occasion they will be permittedto use the phone at the discretion of their teacher and/or office staff but may need to pay a small charge as we are classedas a business and are charged for all calls.

    Students are permitted to bring their cell phones to school but they MUST be taken to the school office and handed in onarrival to school and collected again at the end of the day. All cell phones must be named or decorated (eg: with stickersetc) so they can be identified without being turned on. Any phones not handed in will be confiscated for a period of time;this will be at the discretion of the Principal.

    M.I. Mates MeetingsParents will be advised via newsletter of up-coming M.I. MatesMeeting dates which are held monthly at 7.30pm in the schoolstaff-room. This is our school fundraising committee who gettogether for monthly meetings. This is a great opportunity toget to know other parents at school, become more involvedwith the school and help out with school fundraising ideas. We

    always welcome new parents.

    School Swimming

    MIS students will take part in swim-ming starting from next week.Classes bus to the town pool at therecreation grounds. Each team(Tainui, Aranui & Aotea) will attend

    rostered lessons at the pools duringthe rst few weeks of term leadingup to our school swimming carnival(also held at the recreation groundson Wednesday 7th March).Please look out for additional infor-mation sent home by your childsTeam Leader / Teacher regardingswimming; students are expectedto bring their togs, towel and sunblock on the days they are bookedto go to the pools.

    Sun-Smart All students are encouraged to wear a sun hat during terms oneand four, these can be any style of sun hat but must be either royal blue, navy blue or

    black. Hats must not have large designer labels or slogans printed on them. Suitable sun

    hats can be purchased at Harrys (who are our school uniform supplier) for under$10.00. Students are also encouraged to bring sun block to school during the summermonths, especially during swimming (a small named tube of sun block kept in your bagor desk is ideal).

    BUS STUDENTS

    All students who travel by bus

    have had a Bus Meeting at school

    today to be allocated bus num-

    bers and rolls for pick-ups from

    school in the afternoons.

    Over the next week we ask par-

    ents to be a bit flexible with the

    bus timetables until all schools

    have started back for the year

    and bus times can be finalised.

    ROAD SAFETY

    The designated place for children

    to cross the road is the Crossing

    on Elizabeth Ave. Parents are

    also asked to drop their children

    off and pick them up on ElizabethAve as the entry on Coronation

    Road is the bus bay and is

    extremely busy before and after

    school.

    Instrument Tuition Evening This will be held at 7.00pm on Wednesday 8th February and givesstudents and parents a chance to have a look at the different instruments available for tuition and meetthe tutors. Music Tuition is available to all students (beginner and advanced lessons). The annualfee for music tuition is from $200.

    Rarotonga Tour 2012Each year Morrinsville Intermediate students get the oppor-tunity to be involved in an overseas trip together withCambridge Middle School and Te Awamutu Intermediate. In2012 this will be to Rarotonga from 1st April until 8th April andour students will be accompanied by Mrs McDonald who is asenior teacher at our school. Traditionally this trip includes onlyour Year 7 students, this year we may open applications toYear 8 students depending on numbers. Interested Year 7Students need to apply in writing to Mrs McDonald and collectan information sheet and permission slip from the office.The cost involved will be approx $1,900.
