What's happening in 7E?!

Marrara is a standout College!

The long established ethos of peace, stability and well-being have been

powerful drawcards for teachers, parents and students for decades. You

may even have marvelled a little at the wonderful diversity of students

whose educational needs are catered for by our College. A noticeably

big part of this diverse group is made up of second language or EAL/D

students.

EAL/D stands for "English as a second language or dialect." It may seem

strange, but there are many people in the Northern Territory who do not

speak English as a fi rst language. They include Indigenous people living

in remote communities. Over the last 20 years, students have, along with

their families' support, chosen to come to our College from every corner

of the Northern Territory to be part of our unique boarding and school

education program.

The Year 7E class structure plays a vital role in the lives of the younger

boarding students. They start attending our school in Term 1 at a tender

12 years old. Almost all fl y in to Darwin from remote communities, some as

far as Lajamanu or even Yuendumu. Through Christ focussed nurturing,

caring and the provision of specialist educational programs they are able

to settle in and thrive. In class, Literacy and Numeracy profi ciencies are

targeted as a priority, while a range of programs and opportunities equip

students with the skills, attitude and knowledge required to make positive

contributions to the world they live in.

As a place where Christ is glorifi ed, understanding the fruit of the Spirit has

helped 7E live the "Marrara way".

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no

law." - Galatians 5:22-23)

After 30 plus years of working with and teaching EAL/D Indigenous

students, I thank God for the joy and passion my work brings me every day.

God bless you all.

Diary Dates-

Within the context of 1st Century Judaism, Jesus was confrontational and radical. He stood against both the

political and religious norms of His time. He challenged people to value each other, worship God and live a

life worthy of a child of God. Sometimes, it is easy to forget that Jesus challenged people to think and view

life from a completely different viewpoint. Still today, Jesus challenges us to think outside the box and seek

Him fi rst. Some verses that emphasise this are:

Deny Yourself and Follow Me.

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

- Luke 9:23

Become a Servant.

"But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and

whoever wants to be fi rst among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be

served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

- Matthew 20:26-28

Blessed Are the Persecuted.

“Count yourself blessed every time someone cuts you down or throws you out, every time someone

smears or blackens your name to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and

that that person is uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—skip like a lamb, if you like!—for

even though they don’t like it, I do. . . and all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company; my

preachers and witnesses have always been treated like this."

- Luke 6:22-23

Do Not Be Anxious About Your Life.

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about

your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?"

- Matthew 6:25

As we head into the fi nal months of the year, let us take the time to refl ect and ask:

Is my life devoted to Him?

Am I willing to be counter-cultural to follow Him?

Am I as radical as Jesus?

What’s Happening Around the College

Imaginarium NewsWelcome back for Term 4! Our term display is “Finding your treasure – SPACE”. Astronauts in space suits, distant worlds and futuristic

technologies are the stimulus for this term’s theme.

Thank you to all participants in the TEAR Read-A-Thon in Term 3. We will shortly be organising participation certifi cates for those who

entered. The Book Character Assembly also went well. I think Maggie the Dog stole the show in our sketch, though. It was great to see

so many people dressing up and getting into the spirit of the event.

In our Primary Library Program this term we are showcasing new picture books to Kingdom Kids and Transition students. For the rest of

primary, we are listening to serial stories to encourage students to enjoy reading and develop visualisation skills.

Primary library lessons are on the following days;

· Monday – 6H, 5/6M· Tuesday – Transition H, 4/5N, 3/4SP· Wednesday – 3/4M· Thursday – 1M· Friday – 2/3vL, 2S

If you have any questions for us, please drop in or email me at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you this term!

What’s Happening Around the CollegeRaylene Rankin (10D) and Cecily Rankin (7M) were busy during the school holidays!

Cecily was selected to represent Darwin in the Australian Basketball Club Championship in Shepparton, Victoria. Whilst Cecily was in

Victoria, Raylene was fi nishing off her training to head to PNG to walk the Kokoda Trail.

Raylene was chosen as part of the Duke of Edinborough Junior Police Ranger Program. 13 students were selected to participate,

Raylene returned on Wednesday. It was such an amazing experience that she will never forget.
